[sims] Microsoft Security Patch causing issues with SIMS7 Date Picker
clockend25 replied to MrMat's topic in MIS Systems
Been dealing with this today. Mostly our admin staff who got the update last night; the practice our teaching staff have of only shutting down their laptops every leap year has worked in their favour. -
I miss Glenn Beck the most.

Appreciate the BBC lads. It will never please everyone and as a publicly-funded organisation people often feel they have more of a right to have a pop at it, but having lived in North America for a time I found myself grateful to get back to some proper, sensible news coverage, not dominated by opinion shows.

Can't see anything from America catching on over here. -
Anybody fancy buying a school? (Northants)

We didn't touch any of the IT kit, but picked up some cookers and cabinets at decent prices, as well as some equipment for us in science. One of our art bods clocked that the iMacs were not listed correctly in the PDF catelogue, so was interested for a while but they were already at £400 by last night so no chance. -

I'd love to see the seethe from the right-wing press is we end up with a Labour-led minority government. I have a feeling the Tories might just end up as the largest party though. Enough UKIPers might have a last minute wobble.
-
As mentioned, you first need to look at how the vandalism is happening when students are supposedly supervised whilst using the equipment... We now remove any vandalised kit immediately from suites and repair it centrally before returning it. While this is normally a very quick turnaround, it does focus staff a little bit when they arrive to find a quarter of the suite has been pulled away to be worked on.

That's the key for me. I think it's absolutely correct to be questioning the use of the money being talked about for the renewal of trident, but I'd want to see a decent amount of it re-invested in equipping and expanding our regular army and special forces.

I've got a Novetech jobby that is about three years old now. i5-3450 3.10Ghz 8GB RAM 120GB SSD 500GB HDD 8.1 More than adequate. Couple of 24" Acer monitors with it.

Waste a lot of money following The Arsenal, but otherwise my at-home downtime is most spent playing guitar. I'm trying to get back into doing some meaningful regular exercise, and will be playing cricket again for a club side this summer.

We've been looking at what might be of interest to us. I think we'll probably be sending a scouting party over on one of the viewing days. It's sad, but there's probably kit there that can benefit other schools facing financial struggles. -
We have 32 SFF Zoostorms and in two years we've had one fail, and with that an engineer was out the next day to fit a new motherboard.
-
We're looking to do something similar here and I think we'll end up using the Promethean voting handsets. That's if they're still working after sitting in cupboards for five years.

DPM technically supports de-dup, however there are known issues with the process which MS still hasn't sorted. It's incredibly unreliable for us.

I was fairly on board with the Tory message about the economy until the campaign kicked in. Having looked at it in more depth you see that for nigh on 3 1/2 years we went nowhere, and only in the last few quarters have we achieved growth. To say we're now the fastest growing economy in the G7 is true, however it needs to be seen in context. Over the whole period post-recession, it really hasn't been a success story.
-
I've just been quoted ~£330 a CPU for Veeam. I'd really like to have it, but unfortunately we're running 8 Hyper-V hosts and it's going to be too expensive to justify.

Stopping students installing password revealing softwares
clockend25 replied to genesis's topic in Learning Network Manager
We had a set of students earlier in the year who'd managed to use a boot disk of some kind to create admin users on PCs. Securus and FEP flagged up that they were then running all sorts of software once on with these accounts, including LOIC and some exes to kill Impero etc. We put the evidence together and went to the principal with it, and they were collared. -
We had a bod here who, after being told he'd no longer be leading a certain part of our SPD curriculum, came to me requesting that everything related to it on our shared areas be deleted, along with any backups of the data. This was on the grounds that he'd created all the work and it was thus his property. Fun times.

[sims] Efficient way of deploying SIMS updates
clockend25 replied to Olliesaurus's topic in MIS Systems
Have to say I was a little worried when we moved back to SIMS last year, however SOLUS has been great. The initial rollout and the subsequent updates have gone largely without issue. The only issue we have is scheduling the time of the update to catch as many of our laptop users as possible, however in recent SOLUS updates this has been less of an issue as the update seems to deploy nicely when people next connect to the network. Users can also launch the upgrade themselves which is nice. -
[sims] SIMS Spring 7.162 Release now available
clockend25 replied to geekgirl's topic in MIS Systems
Rolled it out on Monday and it's been a massive, massive, massive success. That is, the data manager has used it for two days without issue. -
All staff and sixth form students have one here. Pretty simple really, academy logo, mugshot, name and job title.
