We have a very heavy twitter presence (50+ official accounts) which is driven from the top by the HM (he has the main account and his subject account on his phone) and is in all the HOD's JD's and appraisals. I have an email account that gets all the email alerts from all the accounts (it has multiple aliases) so I can keep an eye on retweets, followers, posts referencing out twitter names etc. Works very well and little to no misuse from students (one or two imitation accounts but they were swiftly removed...) We do have a good reason why so many accounts, PM me if interested Andrew

I'm hoping this is firmware as all the fan bays are full and all the fans are most definably (deaf-inably) working...

These are refurbished HP Proliant SE316M1's that didn't ship with any SP's so had to find the drivers the old fashioned way (very similar in build to a DL160 G6). Got everything working, really good servers but need to flash the BIOS and a few firmwares to stop the fans spinning at 100%...

Problem is the downloads page only goes up to Windows 2008 for drivers and although 2012R2 isn't officially supported, the HP forums say the drivers I need are on the new SPP. Was trying to source an official version rather than searching on the dark side of the net for a dodgy mirror... Cheers

Hi Bit of a shot in the dark but has anyone got a copy of the above iso I could keep an off-site backup for them? Building a couple of refurbished Proliant servers with Windows 2012R2 and need some drivers and BIOS update off there to stop the on-board fans running in helicopter mode... Installed 8 on the server for something else last Friday. No transaction updates synced over the weekend. Phoned them for support and they highlighted the Java 8 issue. Uninstalled 8 and reinstalled 7. All syncs started working again. Went off to next job mumering about cr&ppy software. Will wait for the non Java version before updating anything else... Andrew

Thanks for that. The two RDP servers are already publicly available but I'll raise a job with SWGfL for them and get the ports opened up between the two sites. Sometimes the simplest route is the one you don't think of... Andrew

Hi Situation I've been informally called in to help: Two schools that are becoming closer and will probably merge over time, both run RDP services for staff for remote working. However both schools are behind SWGfL's proxy and so port 3389 obviously won't work. What alternatives if any can I implement so that staff in site A can rdp back to Site B if they are visiting? The schools are using Thinstuff TS rather than windows 2012 for the remote servers so can't really build in a gateway server over port 80/443 Wish I'd never picked up the phone on this one... Andrew

I did the same thing. Hate to say it but think more like 10 weeks. You will be amazed how much of your weight goes through that toe....

Ran the week 2 program today. First run for 12 weeks after breaking my foot. No ill effects thus far which is good. Will run week 3 and week 4 later this week and slowly ramp it back up to 5k (I did the full program last year...)

Trust me from bitter experience, no one voluntarily jumps off a moving horse at 25mph let alone when it's jumping... Looking at it the horse changes its stride just before the jump and then ducks left. The jockey is left unbalanced and has nowhere to go other than out the side door....

We've just finishing rolling our own which we host on-site on a Windows 2012R2 IIS server. The new site is fully html5 and was built with nothing but sweat, tears and Notepad++. Took 2 of us about 4 months part time to get it built. Staff have direct file mapping to their part of the website (so they can upload homework, pdf's etc which is displayed through a php script I found), twitter accounts to update the department news sections and my team edit the static pages when necessary. It's a massive success and parents and governors love it. Andrew

I've thought about warning students in assembly before but my concern with that is that while it will discourage the few who have created a fake account, it seeds the minds of 1000 others who haven't thought of it yet... We've had a few fake accounts here but as others have said, quite easy to track down who it was and get a confession. We have had one instance of a nasty and inflammatory account but twitter shut it down for us in under 48 hours after we filled in the forms. With 50 official twitter accounts here it's something we are constantly monitoring but as I get the notification emails from all of them into one account, spotting fakes following official accounts is quite easy. Update twitter feeds, update website as necessary 09:00 – Meet with Bursar 10:15 – Morning break, a useful slot to work in rooms if they in use during day 12:00 – Lunchtime Open Access supervise 13:00 – Lunchtime 14:00 - Meet with Site team 14:15 – Afternoon Open Access 16:00 – After school Open Access. Setup laptop/projector requirements for evening meetings and evening school. 17:00 – Home time All evening - Check emails etc These are the regular jobs I do, there is all the other day to day network maintenance jobs, ad-hoc jobs, staff and student issues to fit in plus out refereeing football matches or out with the 1st XI team some afternoons in random cold and wet corners of the county… Have to say though, been here 6 years and absolutely love my job

Things I have done here over the years to stay healthy:- Swapped biscuits for fruit when junk eating at the desk Swapped diet coke for water Use a small water bottle and walk to the dining hall more frequently to fill up said bottle Take a lunch break and do something with it. I go for a 2km walk round town whenever possible, takes about 25 mins, helps clear my head as well as stay physically fit. Get involved with school sports. i am actively involved with football in the school and am now the referee for all home matches. Avoid eye strain - check lighting in your office etc Take the number for Domino's off speed dial when working late even though they deliver to my office Andrew

Wow, almost exactly what I was about to write apart from the switches issue... 50 Netware servers, 800 Windows 98 workstations, 9000 users, 8 sites and 7 staff in the IT team. Left that job in 2009 and been in my current job half a mile down the road from the first job ever since. Still good friends with several of the old team that are still there. And yes, this thread does make me feel very old at the ripe old age of 44!!! Andrew

If you can still find one, all my trollies use a buffalo Ethernet converter and I can then use cat5 as normal. Failing that off the top of my head I believe you can do the same trick with a cheap access point that can run DDWRT firmware. Andrew
