Acer Veriton x270 - Boot Issues Following RAM Upgrade
AJWhite1970 replied to soveryapt's topic in Hardware
Mine do have Kingston in them. Also just checked my BIOS version, R02-C1 - 20090527. I'd forgotten how old these PC's are but with 4gb RAM and a SSD they still fly along quite happily with everything I throw at them!! They will be going to Windows 10 in the summer from Windows 7. -
Acer Veriton x270 - Boot Issues Following RAM Upgrade
AJWhite1970 replied to soveryapt's topic in Hardware
Just had a look and mine are the same, DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz 240-pin DIMM. The only thing I can think of is buffering? Did you get buffered or unbuffered RAM? -
Acer Veriton x270 - Boot Issues Following RAM Upgrade
AJWhite1970 replied to soveryapt's topic in Hardware
I've got a sack load of X270's. Will crack one open in the morning and see what we have inside them regarding RAM as I upgraded them all to 4Gb from 2Gb in the summer. Andrew -

Orange Thursday Black Friday What have you found?
AJWhite1970 replied to MrPstv's topic in General Chat
Sorry, missed the off the end of my last post... At best these MIGHT just run RDP for remote staff, just got them on a whim to play with. Saying that though, Photoshop CS6 is running quite slowly -

Mine arrived at lunchtime and I have to say, first impressions are very good, nice and fast. Time to see if it will connect to the domain and run SIMS.... Andrew -
Orange Thursday Black Friday What have you found?

Just purchased 2 x Linx7 tablets for £39.99 each from eBay based entirely on this thread. Might, and I repeat might look at replacing the PE departments trusty and much abused Netbooks with these instead (or I might just keep them in the IT department...). Anyway, for £40 each, worth a play!! Andrew -
Hi I was trying to download an Outlook utility called RichProfile that I have used before as a solution for a customer but the website is no longer up (http://www.richprofile.com) I'm after v6.5 as it has the advanced settings I was after. Does anyone know if it still exists and where I can get it from? Thanks Andrew

The reason I went the long way was I couldn't see an option in VMAT to specify which KMS server to register workstations with and the count on the new KMS server wasn't increasing. However, when I used the script the count climbed as I would have expected. Like I said, I may have done something wrong but the long way round got me out of a hole at the time Andrew

Hi I went from my trusty old 2003 KMS server to 2012R2 in the summer. I installed a new KMS server on the 2012, imported all my keys etc. I then stopped the KMS service on the 2003 box, tidied up DNS so only the one KMS server was listed (the new one) and then ran the following on all the workstations:- slmgr.vbs /skms NEW_KMS_SERVER_NAME:1688 slmgr.vbs /ato All the workstations sorted themselves out. I also did the following for Office at the same time:- "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\OSPPREARM.EXE" cscript "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2010\Office14\OSPP.VBS" /sethst:NEW_KMS_SERVER_NAME.domain.local cscript "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2010\Office14\OSPP.VBS" /act Once all that was done, I installed VMAT on the new KMS server so that I could get a report of all the workstations and their registered state. TBH, probably a much quicker way of doing it, but the above worked for me with 900 workstations. Andrew

Hi Only just started install and and deploying SCCM 2012 R2 SP2 so still getting my head round the basics. I've successfully setup SQL and SCCM etc but I now have a critical error with the Application Catalog web service point unable to download 195Gb of data (which is understandable as C drive has 160gb left and D drive has 1tb spare..) Is it possible to move the location of the Application Catalog from what I guess is c:\program files\Microsoft Configuration Manager to say d:\sccm_Catalog ? Thanks in advance as this might be the first of a few numpty questions... Andrew

Silly question but is the copy of Windows licensed? I had one do that and it was because it had lost contact with it's KMS server. As soon as I repaired it, it went back to normal. Never found out why, it never displayed the not licensed warning etc, I remember we lost hours trying to fix it...

We have 10 Motorola T5422's on-site held by key members of staff (Site team, HM, Reception, First Aider, Duty Head, kitchen, me..) Sadly now discontinued so if we broke a couple we'd have to look for compatibles. Our site manager also carries a radio provided by the city watch so he can call for local help in an emergency. We also have a few protocols for our in house use, no using student names, no swearing, no using in an exam hall We haven't considered using CB handles for calling, I could think of a few suitable names but that would then contravene the no swearing rule...

ANME Southern Meeting 01
AJWhite1970 replied to RichCowell's topic in London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
Bath or Bristol would work very nicely for those of us more South West than South East. Unfortunately Hemel Hempstead is quite a trip either by road or rail so I won't be able to make it up to that one Andrew -
I just can't get into this series at all, unless something spectacular happens at the end, this could be my last series...

We looked at it when we first looked at redesigning our website but the question of data and job duplication kept cropping up. In the end we designed the website completely in html5 and ensured it was fully mobile compliant which has taken away the need to have and maintain a separate app. Andrew

Not impressed lately
AJWhite1970 replied to localzuk's topic in South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL)
I contacted SWGfL in September and asked for both my schools to bypass their proxy farm and just use our in-house filtering. The disclaimer form was sent through the same day and the bypass was put in place the following morning. We had one slight issue with YouTube but that was fixed the same morning, since then our connections have been flying... Andrew -
Need BGInfo to run at computer startup
AJWhite1970 replied to mikkydoos's topic in Windows Server 2012
I use ours to see if it's staff or student logged in (different background colour) as well as querying a few version numbers so I can quickly see if the PC is up to date with patches -
Need BGInfo to run at computer startup
AJWhite1970 replied to mikkydoos's topic in Windows Server 2012
I've got mine running from a share but mine runs as a user GPO on login rather than as a machine policy (Win 7 client, Win 2012R2 Server) \\nebula\apps\BGInfo\Bginfo.exe \\nebula\apps\BGInfo\Student7.bgi /SILENT /NOLICPROMPT /TIMER:0 There is also BGInfo4X that might work but I've yet to play with it properly BGINFO4X - BGINFO for X and for Windows! download | SourceForge.net Andrew -

AJWhite1970 replied to mikkydoos's topic in Enterprise Software
Was doing this earlier but in PDQ not GPO. Will not overwrite ) 7) Stop iTunesHelper %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\taskkill.exe /f /FI "USERNAME eq %USERNAME%" /im iTunesHelper.exe Hope that helps Andrew -
We have 2 x 10" Netbooks with SSD's and Windows 10 (previously 8 & 8.1) on them with connected by wifi with the only icon being a Remote App shortcut to SIMS. This has worked great for 3 years and the netbooks are PE staff-proof, they are yet to break one!!!
