  1. A couple of scenic pics from a recent trip to Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks
  2. Ah sorry - didn't realise the link was a screenshot. You could download and use perfmon which may give you an idea of what system process is hogging CPU time. There are loads of guides on the web, but this is quite good https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.08.pulse.aspx
  3. Are you able to see any processes in task manager that might give a clue?
  4. We use Redstor and its around £4000 per year for 3TB for us.
  5. Nice website... iTrent is a bit of an overkill for us I think but wasn't chosen by me but by the last HR manager, so we are stuck with it for the foreseeable future it would seem.
  6. We have just moved to a product called iTrent. Its all whistles and bells but boy does it cost to get it up and running. I suppose it depends how large your school is as the software will need to be scaleable and iTrent certainly is that.
  7. We have been using a product called sitehelpdesk for IT and Property team calls but are about to move to ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus in the next week or so. It's free (albeit with limited support) but its very configurable
  8. We use Symantec Endpoint Protection and its been pretty good over the years. Never had any real issues configuring or maintaining it either. I read somewhere that the very best AV is only around 60% effective so I guess you have to bear that in mind whatever system you choose!
  9. Hi All Our current managed print contract is up next June, however for reasons I won't go into now we are going to have to do this much earlier. Because of the value it looks as though we will have to go out to tender for the contract. Has anyone done this and maybe have a tender document I could take a peak at? Thanks
  10. Is it a DLP projector? If so a faulty colour wheel will do this - as we have found out on our old Sahara projectors
  11. I'm afraid you are stuffed without their usernames and passwords. We've had a number of ours with the same issues over the last year or 2 and we've had to contact the member of staff to get their details. Its a real pain!
  12. Is it an Avaya system? If so I may be able to help
  13. I have seen this before and sometimes deleting the ntuser.dat (or all of the profile contents) and replace it with a know working one from another student - we have a test one we use. It does depend on what type of profile you use of course
  14. We are a CC4 school and most of our teaching staff have laptops (although they can choose to have an iPad instead) and they are privileged users of them and to be fair it has caused us very few problems. Most staff know not to store their files on them and if they do, they need to have them backed up. When we re-image them we tell them to backup anything on the C drive and sign a disclaimer to that effect! The problem is getting them to make the backups - after all storing it on a USB drive is no better than putting in on the local drive of their laptop! As for desktop v laptop - from an admin point of view desktops are easier to manage but I don't have an issue with laptops
  15. We did take a look but it seems the downloads don't go back that far unfortunately! Thanks anyway
  16. Apologies if this is in the wrong area, but I am after a copy of the CS3 Master Collection Mac application DVD. We have a site license but it seems one of these disks has gone missing an I need to install Premier on a couple of old Macs (long story!) If you can help then please let me know :-) Thanks in advance!
  17. Hi... Has anyone else received this email or indeed upgraded to Biostore V3 as per below? Seems like the war of words between Cunninghams and Biostore continues........ ------------------------------------------------------- Dear Sir / Madam, Re: Identity Management System We understand that a number of our clients have recently undertaken ill-advised upgrades to their Identity Management System (typically iDStore; Biostore v.1 or Biostore v.2) We strongly advise against undertaking such an upgrade, and recommend that clients in receipt of such a proposal consult with CRB Cunninghams as a matter of urgency. In particular, clients have recently reported unforeseen consequences after upgrading to the Biostore v.3 platform following direct representation from the developer. Proceeding with such an implementation may have a number of consequences that the client may be unaware of, for example: • The loss of interface between the MIS system and the Impact cashless catering system - and the associated loss of cashless catering services. • The loss of Access Control functionality and the associated exposure to safe-guarding risks. • The voiding of your annual support contract with us - the system having been dramatically reconfigured by a third-party. We strongly advise that any client who receives a proposal to upgrade their Identity Management system seeks our advice before considering proceeding. --------------------------------------------------
  18. All the lights in my flat were 240V incandescent GU10's (about 36 in total) and I have replaced them all with the 5 watt LED equivalent and they are great. They can be used on a like for like basis for existing lamps to give the same output but use warm lamps for living areas and cold ones for bathrooms, kitchens and toilets. One thing to watch out for (especially if you live in a newish building) is the space above the ceiling as some lampholders can protrude quite a way and may not allow the fitting to sit flush on the ceiling
  19. I run most nights and use these little beauts Avantree Jogger Pro Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless Stereo: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics Had them since April last year and they have worked faultlessly. Sound quality is fine although obviously won't be as good as top end products, and the charge seems to last for ages (I think they say 7-8 hours of continuous use)
  20. Ours point to a couple of external sources if my memory serves me correctly and Vsphere points to the DC. I think!
  21. Yep - that's how Veeam is set up here as we had some performance issues with parallel processing. The backups take a very short for the most part - 20 mins for incrementals
  22. It really doesn't matter - personal preference really as long as you do both within a few hours to ensure they don't get too far out of sync. No special configurations as far as I am aware, and not any that I have done! When you say poll an external time source, do you mean for NTP purposes or some other?
  23. Our Veeam backups are sequential and the DC's are the first 2 to get backed up. We also use Redstor to back up offsite and these do happen at the same time but for not for any technical reason
  24. I had 1 physical and 1 virtual until last September and now they are both virtual. I've had no problems and although I was a bit wary in the past of having 2 VMs, its actually been fine and the pro's far outweigh any cons there might be.
  25. That looks really nice and tidy. Whats the structure of the site in terms of a site structure/tree. I'm thinking very simple School- Staff Subjects Governors
