Having had to move an entire buildings kit to a new one is something I've had to do in the past. You have my total sympathy.

With only a week or so to go for most, we do have to ask how your summer work has gone. Are you done, almost there, or has it all gone a bit wrong? Please let us know below and we shall offer tea and hob-nobs as required!

I ws blaming the ticket price on the quite poor audience level in there (about 20-30 people). And I forgot how annoying the TC is. Not been in years!

Went to see Nope with my son last night at the IMAX at the Trafford Centre. A pretty decent film, but with some flaws, namely the plot/storylines that don't go anywhere, but the underlying premis and effects were great. It was shot in IMAX so looked gorgeous and the effects were top notch. A 50's B movie brought up to date with an interesting take on the UFO and it's behaviour. My son wanted to see it because it refrences several anime and 'steals' some plot points! I do think Jordan Peele should be the 'ideas' man and get someone else in to help him realise his vision better as the characters could have been padded out and handled better when it comes to dialogue. Oh, and the first scene had me wondering whether we were in the right screen, but if you do go to see it, then yes, there is supposed to be a murderous chimp! *And when did Odeon get so damned expensive? Even with a discount card, 2 adult tickets came to just shy of £30. Don't even get me started on snack prices!

And a genuinely nice person too by all accounts. She'll be sadly missed -

I've seen some vids on YouTube of driving instructors saying it is still confusing as to how the new rules will be judged upon as the wording is suitably vague and it would take some legal cases to sort out. To my mind (as a former qualified driving instructor) some of the rules, such as giving way to pedestrians on roundabout exits, are, to my mind, very iffy as you can't see 'around' many roundabouts far enough and the chances of a rear end shunt are much increased should you suddenly find someone stationary in front of you when your visibility has been impaired either by a bank or bushes on the roundabout. As a cyclist I do welcome the extra awareness of bicycles though, there are far too many idiots behind the wheel!

Spain bans air conditioning from dropping below 27°C
Dos_Box replied to Zoom7000's topic in General Chat
As long as the room is at a temp that the machinery inside is within working parameters then all should be fine. Actually getting the temp correct as per Spanish govt guidelines could be a long process of trial and error though. -

Cost of living crisis 2022 - what have you cut back on?
Dos_Box replied to Ditto's topic in General Chat
I have been thinking about the best way to keep the house warm this winter and I think I may be using candles in the living room to raise the temp by a couple of degrees meaning I can have the heating on a bit lower (thinking 16-17 degrees). And then I read this - https://heatertips.com/how-many-candles-do-you-need-to-heat-a-room/ I suppose I could use them to offset the room temp, but as it says in the article, you need a lot of candles to heat a room just from those alone. My big fear is that, with all the stars aligning in such a bad way this year, we shall have a bad winter. I hope not but as the saying goes 'we are due one'. -
Ubiquiti EdgeMax Direct Access Settings
Dos_Box replied to TechMonkey's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We have a Ubiquity EdgeRouter and I'll ping @ZeroHour as he will have a lot better idea of the settings you should be looking at than I do. They are very good kit though -
Very sad. He was a childhood staple character actor and seemed to be in almost everything. He will be sorely missed.

If you watch Dr Becky's YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYNbYGl89UUowy8oXkipC-Q - she goes into how you get 'time' on the James Webb in some of them. Essentially, you apply. You send in your proposal and the time you require and, should it meet the criteria, it will be scheduled in. I do recall that she said that this could take many years though as demand is high. The JW is working almost full time now and has been mentioned, it can do in hours what took the Hubble days. Admittedly, many of the projects being run will not prodce pretty pictures, but raw data on whatever is being observed. I'm still not sure if you have to pay to use it or, as members of the countries/organisations who helped to fund it, you get a free pass. I can't imagine all of the back-end systems and people being used to keep it running would be cheap to though.

Took my girlfriend for a chippy tea at Cleveleys last night. The intention was to go for a beach walk and look for some driftwood for her fish tank and grab a few stones for the bottom atfer food. It was Baltic! Strong winds and a very rough sea meant we stayed in the car and ate our food in there. I knew I shouldn't have gone out in shorts, t-shirt and sandels Still, the kite surfers who were out were having a great time and they could certainly grab some air out there!

The Wildlife (and Gardening for Wildlife) thread
Dos_Box replied to elsiegee40's topic in General Chat
Not doing to bad for insects this year. I have a couple of buddliah and a teasel which are all in flower atm and packed with bees and hoverflies. Not seen many butterflies in the garden yet this year though (a hummingbird hawk moth in the garden last week was a nice sight though). I'm just hoping the recent warm weather will bring them out. Some rain might help there though, and that is coming in the next few days. -

Here in Preston it is predicted to be in the mid-30's on Tuesday, which will probably translate to close to 40 degrees outdoors. I've worked in those temps (and higher) before and it wasn't nice. But then again, I was in the middle east and Carribean. It will be windows open, blinds down and fan on in the living room for me on Monday/Tuesday I think. *I know 'they' say to keep it cooler you should close the windows, but I find that doesn't work once silly heat levels arrive.

The Wildlife (and Gardening for Wildlife) thread
Dos_Box replied to elsiegee40's topic in General Chat
Had a hummingbird hawk moth in the garden the other night on my buddleia. Not seen one in years, and up here (Lancashire), and are often a sign of a long hot summer otherwise they'd have to wear small wellies and a coat, which stops them from flying. -

Looking for an android head unit for my new car and came across this pic on eBay in one description: -
How about this, a Razor Blade 17 with an 11th gen i7 and RTX 3060? It only has 16GB RAM but for a paltry £1495 (down from £2278.99). It doesn't say what storage is in there, but you can probably bring it all up to your spec for about £200. - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Razer-Blade-17-Display-RZ09-0406CWC3-R3W1/dp/B0999KF2LG/ref=sr_1_4?crid=37T5HIK42NSXY&keywords=17%22+laptop&psr=PDAY&qid=1657634873&s=prime-day&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&sprefix=17+laptop%2Cprime-day%2C95&sr=1-4
