If any of you live in the NW then I should flag this up - https://www.playexpoblackpool.com - which is taking place this weekend. I've got my tickets and am quite looking forwards to it. I have to admit that last years was a bit poor, but that was down to covid more than anything I think, but I am very much looking forwards to this.

BETT 2023: Register by 3 March 2023 for free admission
Dos_Box replied to elsiegee40's topic in BETT 2026
One problem with the connect@BETT system is that it allows those without stands to still do business for far below the cost of exhibiting. This may cause problems later I suspect. -
Seeing as this will be the one many here will be getting (once you've forked out for a new motheboard, RAM etc. that is) I thought I'd share Hardware Unboxed review of it:

Cost of living crisis 2022 - what have you cut back on?

How long ago was that Mike? It may well be that they have improved airflow in newer designs. -

Not sure about roasts yet, but I'm a big fan of roast veg (peppers, onion etc.) and will be giving that a go at some point in the near future. -

This one - https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/36l-darell-air-fryer-ps3999-at-farmfoods-3990208 Reviews here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Daewoo-SDA1553-Circulation-Protection-Low-Cooking-Black/dp/B07L12M9YW/ref=sr_1_1?crid=PS8F4GDZVW3I&keywords=daewoo+3.6l+air+fryer&qid=1663149112&sprefix=daewoo+3.6l+air+fryer%2Caps%2C99&sr=8-1 Some complain it's noisy, but I don't find it too loud, not once you are cooking a meal with lots of things on the go at once anyway and it doesn't dry food out as far as I've seen so far. -
Cost of living crisis 2022 - what have you cut back on?

I've been enjoying the benfits of a newly purchased air fryer this past week. Farm foods had (has?) a Daewoo one on offer for £39.99 (Amazon price £50). @ZeroHour had been extolling the virtues of these to me for some time now and I'd always been a little relcutant due to my feeling that I didn't want another kitchen gadget. And how wrong I was. Not only does it use less than 50% of the energy I'd use if I was cooking in the oven, but it cooks a lot quicker and you don't have to wait for the oven to warm either, which takes about a third of the cooking time the air fryer does. Not to mention the health benefits of not having to fry things either. Very glad I grabbed one and now have to experiment beyond chips, chicken nuggets and sausages (all cooked wonderfully) which is all I have managed so far -
[ms office - 2010] Nearly 3 hours working out why Outlook 2010 stopped working

Ta, I'll have to get him onto Windows Mail then at some point. -
As my girlfreind pointed out to me yesterday, we'll all be getting the words for the national anthem wrong for a bit now.

A bush bog cricket snapped at Foulshaw Moss in Cumbria the other week. My brain keeps calling it a bog brush cricket! -
I do recall them never being given in change, but you used to find them on the street and could spend them. Pretty sure they were all gone by the time the half pence peice was withdrawn. Ah, here we go - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixpence_(British_coin) - and withdrawn in 1980, the half pence in 1984. I thought the sixpence went before that then, perhaps they just fell out of common usage before.

I do remember in the 70's growing up that we had one and two shilling coins with former kings heads on as legal currency (5p and 10p pieces) and I'm sure there was another (sixpence piece possibly) you could use.

Very, very sad news, RIP your majesty Oh, and I should make this very clear, we'll have no innappropriate posts in this thread please.
-
Indeed, it may well be that a news embargo will be in place until everyone is where they are required to be.

It's a bit of a not-very-good thread title, but it appears the Queen may be quite unwell with many senior royals making their way to Balmoral as fast as they can - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-62834633 Please do not use this thread for political comments and keep them out of this discussion (I shall be watching closely), but I do hope she's just 'unwell' and can pull through, but by all accounts there is a lot of running around behind the scenes

Well, seeing as how everyone is back we now have to ask what was the first thing that broke when they used it

Is that connected to Exchange, or is it just being used as a regular email client? I'm only asking because my dad is using Outlook 2010 as well. -
Took my son to see ET last night in IMAX as he'd never seen it and wanted to know what the fuss was about. Only about 10 of us in there and no kids (my son is 16)! Still, I may ask them to look at their air-con as my hayfever seemed to have kicked in for the last 25 mins of the film. Wasn't too bad once we'd left Oh, and my son loved the film

I always had my desktops shut down overnight on all the networks I've run. In fact it was a policy of the places I worked at. Like others with network management software, I used NetSupport to do this. The only things left running were the servers. As regards wear and tear, this isn't really an issue and the old adage about PC's taking more power to turn on than keep them on standby is a bit of a misnomer IMO as since spinning disks went the way of the Dodo in desktops, and boot times are vastly quicker and use less power than ever now. I remember classrooms full of Pentiums 4 PC's dimming the school lights when they were switched on each morning (ok, this bit isn't true, but the temp in the rooms would rise rapidly after bootup!).

I'll be catching it at some point this weekend and as you say, I'll keep an open mind, but I'm desprately trying not to read any other reviews until I do! -
In case you hadn't heard, it's national cinema day on Saturday the 3rd Sept and many cinemas are offering tickets for just £3. https://www.odeon.co.uk/national-cinema-day/ https://www.cineworld.co.uk/static/en/uk/blog/celebrate-national-cinema-day-at-cineworld-september https://www.myvue.com/news-competitions/national-cinema-day I already have tickets to take my son to see ET at an IMAX on Sunday though, so will have to miss this one.

Well, this came as a surprise - https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/08/wii-u-receives-its-first-system-update-of-2022-heres-whats-included Apparently there will be menu and eshop changes with this, most likely due to Nintedo eshop now no longer taking cards and funds. I think it will possibly now be removed. I'll be hanging back for a bit I suspect as mine is still hackable and I don't want to remove that ability!
