Took my son to see Tokyo Godfathers last night (his choice of film). It's a Japanese animation and not what I was expecting. I hadn't looked up the plot or any other information as I want the films he suggests to be a surprise. I thought it was going to be about gangsters. It's a Christmas tale of three homeless people who find an abandoned baby and try and locate its mother. It was funny, warm and very Christmassy! Highly recommended. Certainly a lot more fun than taking him to see Saving Private Ryan on Wednesday!

I like the design, but I have to admit that the only reason I got a Series X was for the 4k Blu-Ray player and have very few Xbox games on disc now.

Things that could have been improved before being approved...
Dos_Box replied to 6Foot2's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
Remember, she was the creator, not the monster -
When my kids were at high school, they insisted in either black or grey jackets without visible logos. I never had that at school (but it was quite some time ago). The one that really baffled my kids was when they asked where we kept our coats in between lessons, and when I told them ' in the cloak room' they couldn't get their heads around the fact that we could leave our coats unattended and they still be there at breaks and the end of the day.

Sadly, it's not an option for this.

Shane MacGowan, Pogues songwriter and Irish music legend, dies aged 65
Dos_Box replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
I'm a big Pogues fan, but as @Andrew_C said, it is a surprise he lasted as long as he did. Still, he left us some cracking songs, and for someone who can't sing (let's be honest here), was in a band that managed to make him sound epic! -
Thanks all, that gives me some options

I have a Canon EOS 100D which got no use over lockdown (I use it for nature pics) and when I came to fire it up this year it refused to turn on. The battery seemed fine, but just to be sure I ordered a new one, but no joy. I have tried all of the tips I can find online (EOS cameras have a habit of locking up like this I have found when looking into this) and none have worked. My only option now is to either scrap it and grab one from eBay or send it for repair. Before I do this though, I just want to reach out to the big brains on EduGeek who may have had to have a DSLR repaired as to an idea of potential costs. Any advice would be greatly received.

DFE - Technology in schools survey report: 2022 to 2023
Dos_Box replied to Face-Man's topic in School ICT Policies
It does have a lot if very informative stats in there, and following on from the Birmingham email thread, this caught my attention: -
Well, so much for a weekend upgrade. When I ordered this they said it would be delivered by Friday. Now it's Dec the 15th. I've had this before and the date kept getting pushed back and back until they canceled the order. Scan have it in at the same price and they are not far down the road. Wondering whether I should go with that.

On the 19th November, Half Life was 25 years old! You can get Half Life and the 25th year anniversary update for a mere 71p (if you don't already have it) on Steam here - https://store.steampowered.com/app/70/HalfLife/ What an epic game, and for those of us around at the time, it was a real game changer, and if you had a Voodoo 2 card it really was something special!

I've currently got an Apple Studio 21" CRT on Marketplace, and it's been fun replying to the 'will you post it?' questions. I have it listed as collect in person only as it weighs 33KG. I almost put my back out carrying it into the house! Hopefully it will be picked up this weekend.

I hope you get less scammers contacting you than I did last time I listed something!

This would probably account for why there are so many cheap 2015+ Apple laptops\desktops on eBay now. Just look at how much the trashcan Mac Pro can be picked up for now! I'll wait a few years and grab one as an ornament I think. There are a lot of vids on YouTube now from over the past year or so as to what projects you can do with these older devices (Linux etc.). Apple Silicon has basically drawn a line under the Intel Macs and people are moving rapidly to the new platform now. I have to admit to being a bit excited to see which direction PC's go with ARM based systems. This will introduce a lot more competition in the market as there are only a few companies in the world with licences to create x86 chips. Although, with SoC's being soldered to the board, it would make upgrading the CPU unlikely, unless someone wants to get into a socket war!

Xbox Series X for £359 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-RRT-00007-Series-X/dp/B08H93GKNJ/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2PR7Z55WRFAI2&keywords=xbox%2Bseries%2Bx&qid=1700565434&s=videogames&sprefix=xbox%2Bseries%2Bx%2Cvideogames%2C106&sr=1-2&th=1 According to CCC it's the cheapest it's ever been. A pretty good deal that!

Indeed, which is why places like CamelCamelCamel are so invaluble these days. I'm always surprised at how discounted some things can be prior to BF and other big sales days.
