I've started to take a 'long upgrade' route now. My i7 4770K really wasn't cutting the mustard anymore a year or so back, so bought a bundle of a Ryzen 2600 + B450 motherboard for £70 from Gumtree. All I needed to get up and running was 16GB DDR4 3200 RAM and a PCIe (3.0) SSD. The speed jump was very noticable, and the PC no longer took 3 mins to boot + 2 mins to finish logging in and firing everything up. From here I upgraded the processor to a Ryzen 5600x last summer (used, from FB Marketplace for £90) and have just upgraded the motherboard to a B550 and an extra 16GB RAM. Just about to order a PCIe 4.0 SSD and am keeping an eye out for a reasonable GPU for £200 or under (got my son a RTX 3060 for £190 for Xmas from FB). Whilst there were a lot of GPU bargains just before and after Xmas, these seem to have dried up recently. There is really a alot to be said for going down the used route. My RX580 really needs replacing soon!

Met him several times at the Play Expo in Blackpool. He's a lovely chap So is John Romero too, I had a great talk with him when he had a quiet period on his stand. He spent some time in the UK growing up as his dad was in the US Air Force.

I currently have this case and it's on discount today, but it does have a glass door which does make it easy for getting access to the motherboard. It also has a decent amount of room on the inside. It's relatively light though and well built. The price has also come down somewhat in the year or so I've had mine. I paid £45 in a sale about 13-14 months back. https://www.scan.co.uk/products/thermaltake-s100-tg-tempered-glass-micro-atx-chassis-120mm-fan-usb-30-usb-20-matx-mitx

Are you fixed on an i7 or would you consider AMD?

That is a shame. I remember in my final year of high school (85-85) we had a common room with a radio in, and all it played was Radio 1 with him and Simon Bates on air during the morning break and dinner.

Close to off topic, technically hardware... IT Bag!

I have a Wenger laptop backpack that I've had for about 14 years now, but it is quite bulky and use a cheap Karrimore backpack more often than that now (it has a pouch for a laptop built in). https://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-covert-rucksack-791176#colcode=79117671 This also disguises that I'm carrying a laptop and has held up well over the past 6 or so years. Had this one been avaible at the time I might have gone for it instead (it's also slightly cheaper) - https://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-urban-22-backpack-791068#colcode=79106803 -
This I am very much looking forward too! More info here - https://www.digitaleclipse.com/games/llamasoft#more-info

That looks very much like a reboot. I'm very much a fan of the orginal (it still stands up today), and I think I'll see what the reviews say before jumping in.

More disturbing would be watching the chef pick them out one by one to put on your plate! And counting out loud as they do it.

I've been using a Dell Vostro for the past couple of years and it's very accessible. Very pleased with it, although the screen could do with being a tiny bit better.

I've still to catch up on season 2. I really enjoyed the first season. It's a great setting for dark comedy

Was going through my local auction house listings the other day and came across this in the toys section (where a lot of retro computers\consoles are listed). My first thought when I saw this was that Barbie and Ken had upset the mafia and they had caught up with them! One step away from concrete boots there.

I don't think Bruce Willis is up to it anymore. The Rock perhaps? -

I've just had two new fence panels delivered and I don't think I'll be able to get them in place in time -
We hope you (and your school!) enjoy it. Let us know where it ends up, it'll be interesting to see how kids get on with classic arcade games!

Congratulations to @J010 on winning the rather wonderful arcade cabinet we and @ict-direct had on the stand at BETT. We hope you enjoy it, and it doesn’t spend too long in your office whilst you find a space for it in your school! Thanks to everyone who popped by and took part in the raffle and stopped for a chat. We hope to see you all next year 😊

You really do have to watch them all -
Do you have a link? That could be very handy for many.

I may just invest in a slim USB CD drive. Just for future retro gaming. Not many new PC cases come with slots for them these days!

That looks a lot of fun. Can't wait -
If anyone is in the market for a new USB drive, then Lidl got these in yesterday - https://www.lidl.co.uk/p/intenso-ultra-line-super-speed-usb-a-usb-stick-256gb/p10010498 And you get an extra 15% off if you have the Lidl app.

[tv show] Robert R McCammon's Swan Song to be made into a series
Dos_Box replied to Dos_Box's topic in TV & Movies
Boy's Life is highly recommended. It won tons of awards back in the day and not the kind of story you might think it is. Childhood (with all it's ups and downs) as it should have been. Apart from the murder mystery! Blue World was his collection of short stories. Pin is one story in there that has stuck in my mind. I won't describe it here!
