I'm using LG Flatron L206WU Monitors, they are USB and you can add up to 8. I wouldn't recommend them for video or games, but for remote desktops/browsing etc they are fine. I'm able to view a feed from an IP Camera at about 20fps without any lag.

Hooray - Problem solved! None of the users had read access into the share root i.e. \\StorageServer\Staff Folders\ only to their own folders within that i.e. \\StorageServer\Staff Folders\Username (Which creates another problem - but that's something for a different thread) So i've given them all read access and then the csccmd command works! Next question tho, even tho the synchronization has now successfully moved all the files to the new share, it still picks up the old server has being offline even tho it doesn't have any files to synchronize (As per picture). Is there anyway I can remove this link?

AAAH! I'm having to goto every single laptop and manually move any work they did from their offline files to their new Home Folder, disable Offline Files and then create a new Sync... and even then, it still tries to sync to their old home drive... No wonder so many people stay away from Synchronization/Offline Files

Hi Iain, No, their Home Folders as set via Active Directory and then GPs are set to map their My Documents to %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH% The mapping of their home drives and my documents is working fine, just offline files is still trying to synchronize with the old server.

Just a thought, the command runs and Completes Successfully, but it still tries to Synchronize with the old server, then what is the command actually doing?

Hello, Probably a series of daft questions, but please bear with me I ordered Backup Exec and said I needed a way to backup our Exchange 2007 (Server 2008 64bit) server onto our StorageServer (Server 2008 64bit) I was sent a License for: SYMC BACKUP EXEC SERVER 12.5 WIN PER SERVER STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S x1 SYMC BACKUP EXEC AGENT FOR MSFT EXCHANGE 12.5 WIN PER SERVER STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S x1 and then 4 CDs: Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 For Windows Servers (x64 Version) Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 For Windows Servers (32bit Version) Symantec Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server 12.5 Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 (Remote Agents for Linux, Unix & Mac) --- Please can you tell me what I'm supposed to install on which server? Thanks Ric_, after much swearing, I'd figured that out, but if you look at the picture I attached in the above post, that command runs and completes correctly, but it doesn't seem to change the paths and it still tries to Sync with the FileServer.

Ric_, they all see FileServer as offline because the machine is physically dead and not connected to the network. Attached is a screenshot of what happens when I run that CSCMD file with the shares instead of the user folders, it all seems to complete successfully after a minute, but then Synchronization still keeps pointing to the "FileServer"

The "FileServer" is gone and is completely offline The "StorageServer" share is setup and ready and connectable.

I'm thinking I might move the folders over night, and then put a: csccmd.exe /moveshare:\\machineA\shareA \\machineB\shareB Into the logon script, that shouldn't have any negative effects on users who don't use offline files should it?

Sorry if the topic is a bit ambiguous, but I have 2 questions Our main fileserver (Server 2003) is failing and so I am about to move all the home folders onto another storageserver (Server 2008). Moving them isn't the problem, changing the home folder path is also fine, the issue I'm worried about is the 60+ users with laptops who use offline files. I know I'm supposed to use some "Client-Side Caching Command-Line Options (CSCCMD)" Tool to redirect their offline files to the new server but... Do I do this before or after I move the home folders? Should I wait for them to log on, sychronize and then do it? Whats the best way to go about this so as cause as little disruption as possible? Secondly, While looking through the lists of staff folders that I'm going to need to move, I noticed 3 of them are called "Documents" instead of their username (like all the others) - It's all the users who use or have used Vista. Is there anyway to stop this happening as it'll get confusing if more people start moving to Vista and I suddenly have a folder full of folders named "Documents"... Thanks guys, appreciate any suggestions you can give me.

Hi guys I've successfully bound our new iMacs to our Server 2008 domain, was quick and simple. What I need to know is, is there anyway of setting the security so only users in certain groups can log onto the machine? At the moment it seems to allow anybody with an account, I want to only allow people who belong to the "Editing" group (for example). Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I ended up seizing the roles on our backup DC, removing the problem DC and recreating it... What a mission!

I have a questions and maybe the answer is obvious... We've run a single network point to every single classroom and office in our school. Is there no way we can use that single point for data and voice? I don't mean using skype, I mean, is there a way to connect an IP Phone and a network cable to the same point, or will be need to either run a second line to every class/office or put a switch/hub at the end of every line?

What we do is use gmail as an upstream hoster/spam filter and then download all the mail via pop to our exchange server. This means the mail is always going somewhere when our ADSL lines go down and its provided fairly decent spam/virus filtering.

Hi everyone, Quick bit of background: We have 2 Domain Controllers: DomainServer-01 (Main DC, has all the roles etc...) Runs Server 2008 - Is a Virtual Server FileServer (Backup DC, no roles) Runs Server 2003 - Is a Physical Server The HDD in the Hyper-V Server which runs the Virtual Servers Failed and as such, the Virtual DomainServer-01 went offline for 2 days. The FileServer took over for those 2 days and people were still able to log on. The Virtual DomainServer-01 has now been moved to a new physical host and started up - at first it looked like everything was OK, but I've noticed alot of people are not having the group policies applied to them, and as such, are not having the logon scripts run so no drives are mapped or printers are installed. I've taken some screenshots to try and show what the results are of performing certain actions, it looks like the FileServer cannot connect to DomainServer-01 and so when a computer starts up, it's a luck of the draw which DC it connects to. I've tried restarting both DCs but that doesn't seem to have solved any of the problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That sounds like the problem right there, I think the last backup was a while ago! A bit off topic, what's the best way to run backups on an Exchange 2007 server?

Hi everyone, On Saturday evening, the HDD in our Server 2008 Hyper-V Server died, it's the HDD that runs the Host OS and Hyper-V Server, not the one that actually has the Virtual Server data on it. So I put in a new HDD, installed Server 2008, Installed Hyper-V, Updated etc... I then created a new Virtual Server in Hyper-V and connected it to the Exchange 2007 Virtual Harddrive. Changed the Virtual Machine's settings to match the old one, RAM Count, Virtual Processors and added the 2 Virtual Network Cards and started up the server. Everything started fine, found the network cards, I assigned the IPs it had before and everything seems to be going fine... BUT... There seems be alot of data missing, people are saying that are missing email, calendar items and contacts that they had added in the last few days and people are also saying that email they had deleted a week earlier had all come back. My understanding is that this is due to the Virtual Exchange 2007 Server not being shutdown properly and the exchange DB has been affected and there is nothing we can do about it? Am I correct or is there some magic "Restore the last few days stuff" button somewhere? Thanks!!!!

Hi K-Strider, I ended up rebuilding a new DC and a new Exchange Server in the end, I'm still talking to MS tho as another one of our servers has similar symptoms (Firewall service won't start) but at least this one is still connectable (thank god!) I will keep everyone posted when I find a solution
