Some more info, attached is a screenshot of the setup options for the wan links... I've crossed out some of the IP (nothing person, just don't want to advertise my currently wide open IP address ) Its identical settings I would use if I were connecting a PC to the Internet Router. Do I need to put anything in the IP(s) in DMZ block? If so, what would I use? Surely that should be controlled by the Internet Router?

We have a 4MB account which has a 50GB monthly limit on it, after hitting the limit, internet throttles down to 128KB... Oh, and about 230 computers

Just a bit more info for you... As soon as the load balancing router is assigned one of the static IPs, any pcs assigned any of the other 4 static ips start getting IP conflict errors...

Hi Guys, I'm having an interesting problem setting up a load balancing router. Ive attached a picture try help explain the problem. We have 2 Cisco ADSL Routers supplied by our ISP. They each come with 5 assigned static IP Addresses. What I'm trying to do is plug a Load Balancing Router (LBR) into both of them and then use that to route traffic down the relevant line. I.e. - Internet Traffic down Router 1 - Email traffic down Router 2 etc... (Obviously it'll be more than that) Now the problem I'm having is that I can plug PC 1 & PC 2 into Router 1 or Router 2, assign them a static IP and everything works. However, as soon as I plug in the LBR into Router 1 and assign it one of the static IPs, PC 1's internet dies. The LBR and PC2's (via LBR) internet still work. Similarly with anyway I move them around, as soon as the LBR is assigned a static IP on one of the internet routers, all the other connections to that router lose their connection. I'm assuming its some setting on the LBR that clashing or causing routing errors for the router, but have no idea where to start? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've had to go with the Edimax purely cause I'm in ZA and haven't been able to get anything else - alot of suppliers will not ship to ZA anymore, they say too many shipments go "missing". Just my 2c (0.02 South African rands = 0.00126304195 British pounds) I'm using Google Apps Education edition, although I'm using it primarily as a spam filter. All our mail gets collected in a catchall mailbox and then our exchange server connects and downloads the mail and sorts it into the relevant exchange accounts. It has cut down our spam tremendously and I think i've had 10 false negatives in the last 4 months. In the case of somebody missing mail, searching the spam folder is quick and simple. We're looking at setting up accounts for students and I'm considering using google apps and creating for them, however, i know that already at least 80% of them have their own gmail accounts, so I imagine alot of the student ones I create will never be used. As I mentioned above, we use exchange internally which works perfectly for us, so no need to use the calendars on gmail.

Good evening everyone Just anybody how I would go about creating a staff directory in Joomla? I've setup QContacts, setup Categories & Contacts etc without any problems, I've added photos to the contacts, now I would like a way of displaying a directory with photos and possibly sorted by a custom field from QContacts (in this case, the house they are in) or a way of setting the headmaster at the top? Something similar to: Dainfern College High School Staff But not as appalling badly designed

Thanks SYNACK, going to replace switches as soon as I get a chance... I put a little 8 Port switch in the staff member's classroom and connected it to the wall box and to the laptop and all is working. I'm beginning to suspect its the network port on the laptop, it seems to have a problem sending and receiveing over a certain length of cable. Either that or its 2 different switches giving the same problem. Having said that, there is now a 2nd laptop showing the same signs, which is connected to the same switch. Is it possible the switch has surged or something and damaged the ports on the laptops? Going to try replace the switch just to confirm it is infact, the laptops.

K.C.Leblanc: The laptops are 100MB as are the switches chrbb: They have all been 'upgraded' to XP However, they are running the newest bios, and the network card has been working perfectly for the last few months. georgebush: Most of the switches are unmanaged Zyxel 100MB 24 Port switches, no MAC blocking, plus it does seem to let through a ping every so often. sdc: Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a go tomorrow and pray! and finally, to make matters worse, another staff member's laptop has now begun doing the same thing. Won't connect properly in the staff member's classroom, took the laptop to the network cabinet (30m down the corridor) and plugged it straight into the switch and it worked. I used a cable checker to check the cables from the switch to her classroom, seems perfect. One thing that I did notice on this new problem laptop, the lights on the NIC, only the orange activity light is flashing, the green link light isn't on. Unfortunatly I didn't think to check if this was the case when it was plugged directly into the switch. As always, any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm having a very odd problem with one of our staff laptops... It's an HP 6720s, the teacher brought it to me and said the network wasn't working properly on it, so I plugged it into a point in my office and it worked perfectly. Teacher took it and left, next day came back and said it wasn't working again, plugged it in, worked perfectly. So I took the laptop upstairs with me, to the staffroom where he'd be trying to use it. To make sure everything was as it should be, I used one of the computers up there to ping our main server, sure enough not a single problem, every ping returns <1ms. I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it into the laptop and try and ping the same server and it seems to battle to respond, times out a few times, then one ping returns with a 200ms response, then a few more times outs, then 2 responses, then more timeouts. I tried with a few cables in the staffroom, same problem, yet plug the PC thats normally up there in and everything is fine. Now I would say its a faulty network port on the laptop, but then why does it work fine in my office? 2nd possible fault, in my office, the cable is about 2m long, then goes into a switch, in the staffroom, it's a good 60+ metres to the switch, is it possible the network card in the laptop is going and isn't able to push the signal down the cable? Having said all this, it only occured to me today that I should have tested the wireless as well, just didn't occur to me at the time Any suggestions regarding the cable would be greatly appreciated?

HI all, I know this thread is a bit old, but I was wondering you could elaborate a but on the OpenFire/Spark combo. I've got OpenFire running on one of our servers (The DC/AD Server) with LDAP/Active Directory Authentication installed and working. I can open my spark client and connect to the server and it all works. BUT: 1) Do you have to be an admin/power user or have access to certain files/folders to run Spark? I logged on as a guest and Spark would not run, you double click the spark.exe desktop shortcut and nothing happens 2) How can i setup/deploy the client to Staff PCs so that they don't have to logon, the client just opens in the system tray, connects to the correct server as that staff member? If staff have to actually do anything, they won't use it...

Has anybody tried the Samsung 940UX or LG L206WU USB Monitors? I'm looking for a way to connect a 2nd or 3rd monitor to my HP 6710b Notebook with a docking station. My notebook sits on the docking station under the desk so I don't use the actual notebook monitor. The VGA port on the docking station then goes to a 24" HP Monitor. I'm now looking for a way to connect a monitor on either side of the 24". I've tried using a Sunix USB -> VGA adapter and then connecting that to a LG 19" monitor. It works, but the picture is not smooth, dragging windows around or maximizing or minimizing something and you see lag. I'm going to test the Sunix converter on another PC when I get a chance to see if it's just a problem with my laptop, that being the case, does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve the problem? If that isn't the problem and the converter is just slow, has anybody tried the LG/Samsung USB offerings? The LG is widescreen, which is nice, but the Samsung is a 19" which fits height wise next to the 24"... Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

To all those that are interested, attached is scripts I use to limit the network sessions at Dainfern College. There is an SQL File to create the MySQL DB and Tables. Sample logon script which shows how to call the main script and add a network session to the DB. Sample Logoff script which shows how to call the main script and remove the network session from the DB. AND the main script, NetworkSessions.VBS It's quite a long winded script, but the idea being you could perform any network session/network user/Network User Groups related task with just the script. The first paragraph within the NetworkSessions.vbs script shows the scripts usage. The idea behind the user groups is that at our school I allow staff 2 sessions, one for their laptops and one for a lab machine whereas the students only get 1. You can assign a specific user more additional sessions if needed (for example, my account has the standard 2 staff logons, plus another 8 additional). When a user logs on, it deletes any sessions already existing for that computer name, means that any orphaned sessions get cleared the next time somebody uses that PC (in the case of a hard power off or crash) - this does cause a slight problem with servers/terminal services as the computer name remains the same for each session, although it hasn't been a big problem yet. and pitfall no. 2 : It requires the MySQL ODBC Connector to be installed, although its quick and easy to do via GP settings as mentioned earlier in this thread (Thanks SYNACK) Feel free to do what you wish with the code, it works for us the way it is I've already started on the next version which will use a php backend for monitoring sessions etc so it doesn't need to be done via the command line. I have a USB Fax Modem which it plugged into the Hyper-V host machine, is there anyway one of the Virtual Servers on the Host can pick up the USB modem? Somebody mentioned COM ports via named pipes, how would I go about doing this? Ta

I've got it set at the moment that if it tries to create a duplicate session, i.e. the user restarted their computer, it simply updates the logon time. I'm in the process of writing something else which can be sheduled to run which will check that all sessions in the DB are still valid and remove them if not... Ta for the suggestions, I'm looking for things to add/improve it!

Success I have a working vbs script that creates sessions in a MySQL DB, then deletes the session when the user logs off. You just call the script and enter the relevant arguments: example: in your logon script: WSHShell.Run "\\FileServer\NetLogon\NetworkSessions\NetworkSessions.vbs add " & objNetwork.username & " " & objNetwork.ComputerName & " " & strGroup, 0, TRUE and in your logoff script: WSHShell.Run "\\FileServer\NetLogon\NetworkSessions\NetworkSessions.vbs delete " & objNetwork.username & " " & objNetwork.ComputerName, 0, TRUE I am doing a some testing on it over the next few days, writing a readme, tidying up the code a bit and POSSIBLY a PHP Backend and then I'll upload to edugeek if people are interested?

Just wanted to say that this is how I do my ghosting, via the console, quick and simple. The only time I need a bootdisk is when it's a new PC/New HDD.

OK, i'm sorry, this is probably going to sound really daft, but how would I go about doing that? I've never used GP to install stuff, I usually hold off till the next ghost image, but that could be a long way off for the time being. I tried reading up on it, the one article says that it isn't actually installed until a user tries to use it, what would happen if a script tried to call it?

There will be a web front end which acts as a monitor as to who is logged on where (an advantage of having a DB store all the info)... There will always be problems, but hopefully limiting concurrent logons will be a bigger benefit
