Hi everyone, Can you any of you recommend a web end for controlling active directory? At the moment I use remote desktop to connect to my active directory from my ipad but I reckon it would be easier if there was a web front end. I've done a search and found a few, this one looks like it has potential: Active Directory Web Interface Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion deano. It might be worth a try, pity to have to store the icons locally as this is only a problem on a handful of laptops, the other 150+ PCs don't have any problems with the icons being stored on the network.

Good morning all We use Group Policys to push out shortcuts to users laptops - They are generally URL shortcuts on the desktop and we specify the icon to be used. Every so often a staff member will come to us and say that the icons have disappeared (the shortcuts are still there, but the icon has reset - picture attached). I assume it's because their laptop attempted to refresh the icons while they were at home, couldn't connect to our server where the icons are stored and used a blank icon, however, when they are connected to the network, no amount of F5'ing or restarting will get those icons to come back. Having said that, they will suddenly reappear a few days later. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks, Nick

Hey guys, Just an update for you, I've been doing some more playing around with Papercut to try reduce the Document Name to less than 255 characters and have discovered the following: I first tried a script: This would work to change the document name shown on the release station window, however, the document name in the print queue wasn't changed so it didn't solve the problem. I then tried what this article suggested: PaperCut KB | I want to hide document names on windows printer queues And that seems to have worked - it's not ideal as it's hiding the document name on every document printed throughout the whole school on any printer, BUT, it's better than nothing until Konica Minolta release better drivers.

We have Cisco Linksys E2000 access points, look very fancy but don't seem that intelligent, they only allow for one SSID

Hi everyone I have about 25 small Wifi APs around our college each with a unique SSID, would you recommend or advice against giving each AP the same SSID & same PSK so people can roam from point to point? Second questions, can I still leave the WiFi channels to auto? What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!

Has anybody else experienced a problem with Konica Minolta printing documents/print jobs with names longer than 255 characters? Does anybody know of a way of automatically truncating the names?

My problem with both Gallery & Picasaweb is that neither seem to support sub-folders. Ideally we want to be able to create a folder structure something like this: 2010 -Junior Preparatory --Sports --Academic --Cultural -Senior Preparatory --Sports --Academic --Cultural -High School --Sports ---Cricket vs Kyalami - 19th August 2010 ---Rugby vs Heronbridge - 23 August 2010 --Academic ---Prize Giving - 12 February 2010 --Cultural ---Romeo & Juliet - 17 July 2010 2011 -Junior Preparatory -Senior Preparatory -High School So we have a complete searchable history in one place. Picasaweb would be perfect if only it allowed folders.

With regards to the legality of the games, I do still have a lot of the originals packed away in a box somewhere in the loft, sadly all the consoles kicked the bucket years ago I'll post an update and some pics when I get it all up and running!

Hi everyone, I want to build/setup a PC to connect to my TV to play some old console games so myself and some friends can play some of the old classics (Mario/Sonic/Contra etc...). Has anybody done this and do you have any suggestions for me? What sort of software should I install to run the games? What controllers work well for this sort of setup? Thanks everyone!

Another thought, is there no way to have a Windows print queue automatically skip a document in an error state and move onto another document?

Another update, it turns out it's not a Google related problem, it's definitely to do with the length of the filename - had a student who named a Word document with one heck of a long name and it also stuck in the queue. After some further testing, this seems to be an issue only with Konica Minolta printers, our Samsung & Canon printers handle the long file names fine. Time to get hold of Konica Minolta

Hi guys, I'm not sure if I should be replying in here or creating a new thread, it's regarding some issues we're having connecting 12 iMacs to our Active Directory domain. I've successfully bound them to the Domain, however, only 8 of the 12 are able to log on at any one time. The 8 that are able to connect are also random, so it's never the same 8. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey guys, Still no luck, I thought it might have something to do with Papercut and have sent through the logs to Papercut Support to take a look. Will keep you all posted. @Michael - It does look like the print job name is over 255 characters long. Some of the characters included in the name are : / = ? + I guess this could be causing problems? It makes sense that it could be a Google issue, however, I would expect thousands more people to be having the same problem? @joematthews - have you have any luck with Postscript drivers? I'm using PCL as it allows us to watermark the print jobs with the user's

Hi all, We're having an interesting problem here with printing from Gmail / Google Docs. If they don't download the attachment and rather choose to view the attachment and print from within their browser, the document just sits in the print queue saying "Printing" until after a few minutes it changes to "Error Printing" and just sits. Everything else in the queue then just gets stuck behind it until I delete the problem document. There is a screenshot attached showing the problem. I suspect it's due to the hella-long filename of the document to be printed, is there anyway to fix this or do I just have to drill into people to download the attachment? (On a slightly different note - is there no way to have a print queue skip any error docs and continue with others?) Thanks! Nick

Just so long as you can still adjust the DNS setting somehow so as to point the MX records to Google otherwise mail won't be delivered.

We use Google Apps and added each lab/venue as a bookable resource. Works well so far, if staff can access their Google Calendars, they can book a venue.

Hi everyone, Does anybody have a document or know somewhere that I can find a Standard Password Practices / Policy? We recently had an audit and they said that there is a flaw in our IT security as staff do not change their passwords often enough. At the moment we force a change every 90 days, minimum of 4 characters and the last password is remembered. What does everyone else use?

We've been using Google Apps for 1.5 years now and I still love it, met a lot of resistance in the beginning but everybody has finally come around and realized that the change has many benefits.
