Hello all I'm busy playing around with some HP T5545s and I have a question. I've set it to automatically make an RDP connection to a Server 2008 box and I've set it to auto-reconnect. It connects fine, but if you don't log in, after about 30 seconds it disconnects, goes back to the HP Thin Client software, and then reconnects the RDP session. I know when I create a normal remote desktop connection from my PC, if I don't log into the server within 30 seconds, it also closes. Is there anyway to increase this timeout limit or disable it altogether? Thanks!

AntiThesis, I'm based up in JHB so I feel your pain. What we've done is register for Google Apps Educational Edition. We have 3x 4MB Lines (1 Uncapped, which is horrifically shaped, and the other 2 with 50GB Accounts). We get these from SAI who are resellers for IS. We have 120+ Staff and 700+ Kids using it and it all works very nicely, only issues we had was when IS had connectivity problems for a few days (I think it was during the maintenance on the SAT3 Cables) but that wasn't Google Mail's fault obviously. The Spam and Virus filtering is excellent, it links with Google Docs, Sites & Calendars. Best of all, staff & students can check their mail anywhere on just about any device. We've done away with our Exchange server and we only use one static IP which goes into an ISA box which then forwards it to the relevant services (which really is only Terminal Services at the moment). I've just tried to use pslist on a Windows 7 machine and it doesn't work anymore

I'm having a few problems implementing ThinStation and would greatly appreciate any help you guys could give me. I have some old computers that I wanted to try this out on, unfortunatly because of the age, no PXE. I can boot them off the Netboot LiveCD, they will use DHCP and TFTP to get the config file, all perfect - problem is most of the old machines don't have working CD-Roms. I'm now trying to install the ThinStation files onto the HDDs but cannot get them to boot. I've taken an old 20GB HDD, created a FAT patition on it which is 100MB in size. I've used Diskpart to mark it as active, I then copied the contents of the Netboot LiveCD ISO to the new partition. Whenever I boot with the HDD I get: "Remove disk or other media. Press any key to restart" So I assume I haven't made the HDD properly bootable, how on earth do I do this please? Secondly, some of the newer machines that do PXE boot, they connect, download the software correctly and then go to a black screen and sit there. I'm guess the it's a graphics driver issue - anybody else experienced this? Thanks for your help!!!

Just out of interest sake, how are you creating the Mandatory profiles? I see that Server 2008 R2 has the "Copy-To" option greyed out (as is it in Windows 7) So how did you create the template profile and copy it?

Hi everyone, Thanks for all the suggestions, turns out it was the driver that was installed with Server 2008 R2. I went and found older drivers off the HP site and forced it to use those and everything sorted itself out.

I'm also looking for a good way to set this up using Server 2008 R2

It seems to occur with IE8 mostly - busy testing with other browsers at the moment. Could it be something to do with the proxy server caching it incorrectly?

Hello We have moved all our staff over to Google Apps and so far it's going great. Only problem is sometimes when staff log in, all the buttons don't load up correctly and are mis-aligned. Everything still works, it just looks wrong. I tried refreshing the page, deleting temporary internet files and still it persists. It's random, happens to some people, some of the time on some computers. Any suggestions?

I just discovered that the vSpace software for the L-Series for Server 2008 doesn't support 64bit, only 32bit. I have a server set aside just for this with 8GB RAM and now the other 4GB are going to go to waste

Not at the moment, its a new ISA Setup (Threat Management Gateway actually) and I have the rule set to "Allow all Outbound Traffic" while I finish setting everything up, stupid I know. What ports would you recommend I block?

Hello On our ISA Server I have NetMeter running so I can see when the internet usage spikes. I noticed today that the outgoing traffic has been sitting at 60kb/s constantly since this morning. It's a very unnatural usage, even when all our labs are in use the outgoing traffic never reaches these sort of levels, and especially doesn't sit at this level for hours. Is there any quick way of seeing where this traffic is coming from? I imagine I can look at the ISA logs, but you can only generate the report 24 hours later. I suspect somebody has limewire/frostwire open somewhere...

Slightly off-topic... is there anyway you can use the L-Series as normal RDP thin clients?

I'm also having a problem with the: The winlogon notification subscriber took 599 second(s) to handle the notification event (StartShell). And while I haven't found a solution yet, I have discovered that the time it takes for this can be reduced by disabling IPv6 on the NIC. While it's nowhere near a solution, it does help slightly while I carry on looking.

I would assume so, when I goto Device Manager and tell it to look for newer drivers it says that the currently installed drivers are the latest ones. The drivers that came with the server (that work on Server 2008 - non R2) won't install on R2, says the ones installed are newer. I'm looking on the Intel site now for something newer.

Hello everyone I'm having an interesting problem with 2 new Intel Servers that just arrived. Its an Intel 1U Urbana Platform SR1600URHS with 16GB RAM & 2x Intel Xeon 5530 - 2.4GHz Processors. I installed Server 2008 R2 on them and everything installed fine, but as soon as I logged in for the first time, I noticed (on both of them) that everything seems to freeze for half a second every 3 or so seconds. After some fiddling I have discovered that it's somethign to do with the network cards: Simply unplugging the network doesn't seem to do anything, but if you boot them up without the network cable in, they both work fine (but are obviously useless without any network). If you plug the network cable in after boot, the link light stays off and Server 2008 still says the cable is unplugged, but the data light on the NIC blinks. To get it to reconnect you have to reboot with the cable in. Same thing if you unplug the cable after boot, you have to reboot to get it to reconnect. The drivers were installed automatically when Server 2008 R2 was installed, I've done a Windows Update and it says there are no newer drivers. Just out of interest sake, I reinstalled one of the servers with Server 2008 (Not R2) - it didn't pick up the NICs automatically and I have to install them manually using the driver disk that came with the servers. The servers then work perfectly, no freezing (I haven't tested the unplugging and reconnecting issue yet). Does anybody have any suggestions? If all else fails I'll just use Server 2008 (without R2) but it seems silly to not go with the latest software. Thanks guys!

One of the issues I've had with the nComputing stuff is the software doesn't work if you have certain updates installed, I've had to go through uninstall security updates one-by-one until I found the problem one and then bugger me if Windows Update didn't automatically install it the next day!

Can somebody please explain to me how some simple CSS code can display so differently when viewed in IE8 and when viewed in Firefox? I've attached pictures of the particular piece, I use FF and so I've spent time making the tweaks etc to make it work and when I opened it up in IE8 it looked completely different!
