think they were the 120gb v300 initially then changed to v400 model. are you looking at the cheaper A model?
-
just SSD. they have 4gb ram!
-
We replaced all teaching room PCs with 120gb SSDs - £35 a pop and a huge difference noticed by staff. In terms of start up times the quads with ssds outperform the i7's with HDDs! cheap and chearful upgrade well worth it.

I've had BT Fibre Infinity 2 for several years, started off with the separate vdsl model and bt router never had an issue. Renewed my contract and they sent me a smart hub to replace the 2 devices for 1. Never had any issues with that either. The only difference i found is that download speeds are slightly better having the separate vdsl model. BT Infinity never been down in the last 6 years i've had it (run own servers with monitoring). Depends who your with but never had any issues with ISP supplied kit. However, i did disable the wireless and go for a Ubiquiti wireless point which gives better signal reach.

The system self runs..not had to make any tweaks to it in ages. that would then be their decision whether to continue with it or not or advertise for someone with the skills. every network is different and you could say that about everything. Just because we do everything in house to save costs doesn't mean there's not someone out there who can do what we do.

Self built in-house on-call system where i am. When another school joined the trust they ditched the SIMS ON-call as it had no logging and wanted my system. My system lists all the students along with their photo, they do a request on call, enter details and submits to a member of staff. they radio year leads depending on the year to go sort. all stored in SQL database, bucket load of reports by year group, student, subject etc. No other system did what they wanted so i built a custom one. shortcut on staff desktops which takes them to the system, if it's an emergency (whole class issue) 2 button click but if for individual student short form asking for details and reason for on-call.

Looking for Helpdesk software for my team

OSTICKET highly recommended and free. used it for years for tickets. No cumbersome forms or training to end users, they can still email itsupport@ as normal, then a ticket is generated in osticket automatically, we can then reply through the ticket system from ITSUPPORT@ so they can then reply back to this again and also see the ticket thread. Quick and reliable system. a school that joined our trust used manage engine but discarded and changed them to osticket too as the staff didnt like long forms to fill in. -
I'm migrating RRAS from 2016 to 2019. 2016 install had no issues at all , can VPN with DHCP selected on the settings. However, after setting up the 2019 virtual server and setting up in exactly the same way, clients that try to connect to the server fail, as they don't get a DHCP address. If within RRAS settings i configure a static pool of 3 addresses, then try connecting, the VPN client connect successfully. It seems that the Virtual server wont get addresses from DHCP? Yet, if i spin up a new VM on the same host, the NIC will obtain a static address, so i know DHCP is working and get to Virtual Servers, just not the RRAS one? Can anyone advise with this strange issue? TIA.

So it does! weird that! When i ran command reporter from cmd prompt and open in excel the 00's appear!
-
If i preview the report within SIMS or run the report from within SIMS i get the 00 in front of the admissions number. if i run the report via commandreporter the 00's are removed!
-
I've noticed as well that when i run command reporter from powershell it's stripping the 00 from students admission numbers when it creates the csv export from the report.
-
Perfect thanks, that'll do nicely! is there a way to reorder the columns, say put the student column as column 3? Thanks
-
I'm running an automated task to export a csv report from SIMS.net. I then need to add another column with a heading, and then populate all other rows with the word student. I've created a script which adds the word student to all rows, but it is also doing it for the header row. Can anyone please assist how i get a header row and then the word student on all other rows? Thanks script is below: This is adding 2 columns to the csv file with examples, newsecond and newfith for /f "tokens=1-4,* delims=," %%a in (c:\Timetable.csv) do ( >>c:\newcsv.csv echo %%a,NewSecond,%%b,%%c,%%d,NewFifth,%%e)

I applied the patch and not heard any users complain still. I did notice however the naming convention for the cache folders has changed on the latest releases showing 100. rather than the papercut version.
-
Are you doing this automatically ? if so how.
-
I was tempted! lol
-
That's what i thought - if others can do it, why can't they. Been around a while i think, but certainly expensive from what i've seen. Didn't really get a say!
-
All they kept saying was "We would consider developing the link to SIMS but this would be chargeable development". What you suggested above looks like the route we shall have to go down, but seems a backward step!

We're having our cashless catering system changed over the summer to Uniware. Our existing provider have a tool which automatically runs a report in SIMS, extracts the required information and populates the cashless catering database. Having been in discussions with Uniware they tell me that there is no way to do this. Does anyone else use Uniware and if so, do you have an automated way of getting the data to them. All they are interested in is having a csv file dumped into their SFTP server, but everytime we get a new student which can be several a week, it's not practical to manually be running a report and sending over via SFTP daily. If anyone can advise, would be grateful. They looked into integrating with SIMS but capita apparently wanted a few thousand pounds to integrate and come with up a solution. Thanks

We have MintClass for seating plans and apparently it can be done using that.

For all those schools thats are running Office 365 for their emails , do you have any kind of backup system in place? If so, what are you using? Is it necessary or are we confident and reliant that Microsoft will never lose emails?! Thanks

Just seen this but replied on separate message. We're getting the same error but is NOT related to permissions and they've not been changed and every other version has been fine up til now!

Just checked the server post 19.0.2 update - Papercut serer on windows server 2012 and PC-APP is running at 90% CPU ! Doh - will be reporting that one too!
-
We've had issues since upgrading to 19.0.2 - we use the cache client which runs at startup but all users are getting the error below: I was told it was a known issue, and needed to change permissions on the C: drive but all other releases have been fine after updating the server. support eventually acknowledged other customers have the issue so is a bug is 19.0.2. Waiting for an update on a fix or re-release.

Over the years i have taken over 2 networks - neither of which could give me a decent set of handover documents very limited and just a few IPs and list of data cabs, no schematic diagrams etc. Therefore i just carried out a manual audit using network scanners, visiting data cables, checking cabling etc to compile my own documentation. In the process i found mismatched fibre leads, switches without passwords, so basically just started again from scratch! All now fully documented with network maps, documentation, traffic monitoring etc,.
