The Pastoral Team at my secondary school is considering removing 'Registration Groups'. To replace this they have created a 'Coaching Group' setup, which is only timetabled once on a Monday Morning, where their AM registration mark will be collected. The other four days of the week, students walk straight into Lesson One, where their AM registration mark will be collected. Furthermore, these coaching groups will not be based on traditional tutor groups, but vertical groups consisting of students from year 7 up to 11. Even more, to make matters slightly more complicated, we have already setup next years academic structure and promotions based on last year, as you would. Sorry, we are throwing this out here for some advice and hopefully an open discussion on it's viability. Screen shot below of a first steps from NovaT and SQL export.

Thanks for everyone's responses. Currently staff send an email to an email address that is picked up on a couple of iPads. System works well, but with Outlook for Web would like to automate the process, i.e. a nice desktop shortcut that would populate the email for them. desktop shortcut with "mailto:[email protected]?Subject=Location is" works well with Outlook on the PC itself. At the moment we are moving away from SIMS, so the Emergency Alert is great, but need something more future proof.

I am looking for an easy solution to alert our Pastoral Staff if their assistance is needed in a Classroom. Ideally a simple desktop shortcut that would send an automated message including location (classroom) to a shared mailbox or message system. How do other schools allow teachers to ask for assistance from the classroom with minimum impact on their time. At the moment, staff have to compose an email which is picked up by the pastoral staff on an iPad.

Hi All Wondering if anyone has created their own report layout for a detailed SIMS Intouch Audit Report. The predefined layout is very clunky with html code within tables which is unreadable. Thanks

Hi Bob Thanks for that answer, spot on. Do you know if there is away of altering the view of certain absences within the Cover Diary, ie such as teachers on long term absence for example maternity/paternity not showing, as their lessons have already been timetabled to another member of staff. Thanks

Hi all We are now using SIMS cover, working well, but I've had two requests from above. 1. Can the staff that have been chosen to cover a lesson, be emailed a summary automatically from SIMS Cover Diary. 2. Publishing to HTML, can the reason column be removed, as the details listed are in my opinion confidential. Thanks for help.

In the words of a well used O/S, well that's embarrassing. After posting this I remembered how to do the above post, by setting the filter option to 'All Classroom Staff', finding the member of staff, then Easy after you have had a cup of tea. Thanks

We have started to use the Cover Diary, which is working well. However we have spotted an issue. How do you setup cover for a member of teaching staff who is taking a class out on a day trip, You can't set them as an absence, as this will affect their personnel record. Therefore how do you mark their lessons as needing cover in the Cover Diary ? Thanks for any help. M

Hi It seems you cannot backup the Discover database this way, but it works fine for FMS and SIMS. As the discover Db can be rebuilt from SIMS, this is not an issue. All working fine now, backup runs to the QNAP every night into a name and dated folder. Any folder older than a month are removed. Happy days.

Hi Have written script to backup our SIMS, FMS, Discover & Deployment Server databases, but it is throwing me back an error. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SIMS2014\MSSQL\Binn\DbAttach.exe" /Server=vs-xxxx\simsxxxx /Database=discover /user=sa /password=Sxxx@xxx /backup /auto The program crashes with the following error. I am presuming my cmd line is correct, just that I might be missing a step before, or a have an issue with something on the server.

Hi All Having an issue downloading the latest Solus 3 - 3.10.73.23 agent. The update successfully downloads, then once downloaded the status changes to 'Not Found' Error message is 'Package has been removed from the repository or the repository is not accessible'. Think this may be due to a permissions issue, wonder if anyone can help with this. Thanks
