Hi, Is anyone using PRTG Network monitor to monitor switch environment variables i.e PSU status, temperature etc? I have D-Link switches, and have a custom MIB file downloaded for the switches but struggling to get this working and show the information within PRTG? Thanks in advance.

Yes, we use RemoteAPP so it's installed on the server, exam boards activated and they are using it from home.

same problem here..staff mentioned they couldn't see the tab but I could. although we have onsite exchange too.. I have a 365 mailbox enabled but don't use it. I just said that even if enabled it wouldn't integrate with their outlook exchange calendar. did you find a solution/alternative for booking meetings?

Looks like after the config changes a restart of the service doesnt enable the settings - after an iisreset it then works to external domains! All sorted I think, testing to commence.

Yeah already got that in place - emails on same domain work through the IIS SMTP server, but all other domain get stuck in the local inetpub\mailroot\queue folder

No i haven't - emails to same domain work fine just not to others that are external. let me know how you get on

I have a local IIS virtual SMTP Server setup so that my monitoring systems and local systems can send emails when required. It it setup to relay to my 365 domain using the mydomain.mail.protection.outlook.com Everything works as expected when the recipient is on the same domain. If i try and get any of the systems to email any other external domain, the email is never received. Please could someone help me out with what setting i have missed for relaying emails to any domain. Thank you.

Not sure why you need a different range for DNS... I've multiple.times setup new forest/domain on same IP subnet using unused static IPs...each server points to different DNS IPs and never had any issues doing this.

Yes, SIMS is installed on the server as normal, then point to pulsar.exe I think somewhere there is a GPO regarding graphics which you might be able to try? Think it's called RemoteFX or something?

Same issue i've seen across the schools in our trust, printers are deployed via both logon script and GPP to see if any difference. Just tell the users to log off and back on if printer is missing! A pain but cannot find permanent solution.

Hope all are well. I've carried out a home directory migration for users to a new server which had quota's previously enabled on their home folder. To carry out the move i had to take ownership of all the folders and files so i could move using robocopy. Now, when i create a quota rule on the top level 'users' folder, it doesnt apply correctly. Any user that logs on will show they've used up all their quota and unable to save anything. Is this because i've had to change the owner of each folder, or how do i resolve this? Thanks

You can run 10gb over any fibre I believe...you will just be restricted on distance..

At a school i've just replaced a HP 5406ZL with a 4 switch D-Link 3130 stack. 2 are 24 port copper switches for servers etc 2 are 24 port SFP ports (1gb) All have redundant PSUs. Server teamed connections are across switches 1 and 2 (for redundancy) Edge switch links are connected to switch 3 and 4 (SFP ports) If i wanted to i could double up on the links to SFP with redundancy to each edge switch but at the moment just running as single links from core to edge. High availability and redundancy in event of a single switch failure in the stack. Cost about £4,500 and in stacking topology this gives me 8 x 10GB ports (2 per switch) for future expansion which I have already utilized one of them to do 10gb from core to edge in a new IT block.

As above, just publish explorer.exe as an app then when they launch they'll see all network drives. If you install office onto the server, any files they open off the drives will use remote office and anything remotely on the network. Alternatively, windows users can have all the apps listed as a group in their local machine start menu so they just go to start > remoteapp folder name > sims.net, explorer, etc and launch them as if on a school pc. This saves time as do not need to keep authenticating via the website every time they want to use apps.

Never had the issue of it being minimised when loading through remoteapp.Only issue i've encountered is when the home screen come up, you sometimes have to double click the top bar of the SIMS window to make it full screen and display all the graphic interface.

I'm currently struggling with Microsoft and their support! My phone was working fine on Teams, signing in without any issues. I got signed out and now when i try to sign in on my phone i get: "You need to be invited to teams as a guest to use the app with a microsoft account' After i enter my email address and sign in, i don't get prompted for my password, i just get the error message. I can sign into the desktop app without any issues, and I can sign into other tenancy's on the APP on my phone, just not the main one i use all the time. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

Draytek seem to be excellent. I don't have one at home but we had issues with our SIP VDSL connection at school where most nights the router would drop out and not re-sync so had to reboot it in the morning when getting into work. Following BT visits to site, cable replacement, they said it was a REIN issue. Unable to find any particular source causing the problem, the router was replaced for a DRAYTEK and we've not had a single drop in the connection since it was installed.

All our printers, photocopiers, desktops and servers are all on the same vlan ! VLANS are only separate for CCTV, Access Control, Guest Wifi and Out of band server and switch management,

I've never understood number 2 - we have 700 desktop pcs all on the same main vlan and never have broadcast issues? 15kb/s is our idle broadcast traffic. Is it really only for high latency/slow links where it would be an issue?

True - no one solutions fits all - the 5400R does look like a better option if your replacing core, and switch stacking also suppots redundant power supplies so its horses for courses

I replaced all our 10/100 HP kit with D-Link 10GB backbone, 1gb edge switches about 13 years ago. HP still seem to work on 'chassis core switches' However, D-Link whilst I have chassis switches at the moment, they have moved onto a 'top of rack' or 'stacking topology'. In my mind having just replaced another schools' HP 5406 ZL core with a 4 x D-Link switch stack, I actually prefer this method. It means that you can lose a whole switch and there will be no impact. Teamed connections across multiple switches will still use the remaining links connected to the other switches and the failing switch can be replaced. A chassis failure basically means your whole network goes down if the actual chassis or CPU card fails.

Just to let you know having updated to the spring release yesterday, the contacts section is greyed out for normal class teacher and registration tutor permissions so unable to gain access to contact details. Having called capita this is a known issue and a work around is available below: Sims 7.192: Unable to open contact information from panel 5 Family/Home when viewing student details KB0035914 91 views Since the Sims.net upgrade from 7.190 to 7.192, some users will find that they can no longer open contact records from the student record in Panel 5 Family/Home and/or can no longer scroll from left to right for the contacts within Panel 5. Users may find this obscures the contacts telephone numbers when attempting this. This is an issue with the standard permission templates and Capita are currently working on a permanent fix for this issue. The following permission groups have not been affected: - Administration Assistant - Admission Officer - Partnership Server Agent - Partnership Server Manager - School Administrator If affected users do not have one of the above permission groups, they are likely to encounter this issue. As a temporary work around, we suggest viewing the name of the contact associated with the student via menu route: - Focus| Student| Student Details| Search| Panel 5 Family/Home - Once you have the name of the contact you would like to view, follow menu route: - Focus| Person| Contact| Search - Then search for that contact by name, this should allow the user to view the contacts information
