  1. Hi, So we started playing with scheduled reports (from within SIMS) and have quickly concluded they're nearly useless because the most-used reports (attendance, assessment etc) require a date range. With that in mind, would anyone mind voting for CR 1406-1310211 which says "Week/month/term to date would be really handy Capita, why isn't it a feature in reporting when this functionality is exposed elsewhere in SIMS?": cheers edit: I searched change requests as SIMS > Reporting module > "date range schedule (I think)" which brought up the aforementioned change request on page 1. Direct link (I think you'll need to be logged in for it to work): https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/changerequests/changerequest/855dd717-34fd-e311-828e-005056b41d39
  2. You don't (for the most part) need actual hardware. What you're testing is "if I add these updates to this machine with this software loaded, does anything break?". Use a VM or two for this - for example a minimal (office pc) software load and a full curriculum load. For smartboards and the like find a guinea pig willing to get things first and sweeten the deal with access to shiny things before anyone else gets them.
  3. Before the interview, review their CV and/or get them to write a paragraph (each) about a handful of projects they've done and use that as a starting point for a technical discussion of what they did, how it went, problems faced. It's really easy to male bovine output your way through a multiple choice, it's much harder if you're being cross-examined by people who've actually done the thing under discussion. Split the knowledge requirements into: "Must know", "should know (or experience with equivalent)", "should quickly pick up" and "would be nice".
  4. I'd suspect the 5 at 10mb are asleep or are in power saving mode. Were the machines on 100mb getting a gigabit connection on the previous switch? What do the logs on the switch (and the event log on the PC) say when you plug in a PC?
  5. Screen orientation if you're using Intel graphics cards and haven't stopped the tools running for the user.
  6. Just spotted this - I don't suppose you'd mind PM-ing (or posting in-thread) the Biostore driver versions that Cunninghams are using would you?
  7. Now imagine how airport security people react if the "show your laptop isn't a bomb by powering it on" test reveals you're running Ubuntu which decided now is a *super* time to fsck the disk on boot.
  8. When the HD camera whites/blacks out briefly as the light level drastically changes (into sun/out of sun), does the FPV camera as well? I noticed a few light level changes resulting in a "go over the bail" rather than around.
  9. Are you guys rebranding Guardware or is this a Smoothwall product? The one-pager on the site doesn't make it clear whether this is something SW (that can be made aware of and talk to an inhouse SW proxy already running https interception) or not.
  10. Even more awesome bridge building machine (sent to me by DT after I forwarded on the link):
  11. (duplicates snipped) Line 01 is telling you that you have Apache configured for https, but you're using the default "snakeoil" (fake) certificate for Example Domain and this doesn't match the configured name for your server. Install a certificate from your inhouse certificate authority if you want to get rid of it. Lines 02 - 05 are informational, not errors. Line 06 also informational, telling your that Apache started successfully.
  12. ^ This. I picked up a refurb Leap for ~£100 and it's the best chair I've owned.
  13. The specific part of the mentioned German court ruling regarding model contracts: and https://castlebridge.ie/news/2015/10/14/schleswig-holstein-model-clauses-ist-kaput-update-1
  14. I know. His original suggestion read as though he was doing it live though.
  15. Has anyone got a recommendation for a water & gunk-proof USB-connected numeric keypad? Ideally one that doesn't cost the moon on a stick.
  16. So, just to be clear, you're suggesting a script that runs in the pupil user context that's capable of pulling data from your MIS? ICO may want a word with you. Did the person requesting this explain their thinking behind it? i.e "By presenting this info to students we hope it will.......X?". I'd have a word with someone like Salamandersoft to see what they suggest.
  17. continuing the office analogy.... CPU cache = what the person can hold in their hands
  18. Nope, my account manager says there's an internal meeting about it this Friday and then maybe something next week. Give yours a nudge.
  19. It won't whine about it, but it won't show it as secure either. So if you've deployed Chrome, (mostly) trained your users to look for padlocks and have to use terrible websites to communicate with the LA/central gov.... https://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/simplifying-page-security-icon-in-chrome.html
  20. It depends if you know what you want to alert on or if this is just your spidey sense tingling/the feeling that you should have this information readily available. Windows natively supports log shopping (event log forwarding) to another server and alerting based on specifics you set (send me an email when X happens). Otherwise there's Splunk (the free version), Graylog, ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash & Kibana), OSSEC*...etc and that's off the top of my head. It depends how much time/money you can allocate to the project. * Contains host-based IDS too, can involve faff but it's very** thorough. ** You'll need to tune it.
  21. Retrieved via wget, your URL displays: {"px":[],"js":[],"up":null,"pp":{"domain":"*","disable_cps":false},"ff":{"ui_adprefs_version":0}} I'd leave it categorised as malware (there's no useful content there) and see if anyone complains. IIRC flappy squid is a game.
  22. Try looking up the beep codes for the laptop on the manufacturer website/Google.
  23. ^ Well that's an update on mine that said 3pm. Oh, and someone probably needs to buy the helldesk beer, because they weren't aware of the midday emails on behalf of B.J. when I phoned at 3pm-ish. There was an unspoken hint of "ok, they've left us out of the loop again".
  24. I prefered the Popehat writeup writeup (beware - likely swearing and evil ponies)
