  1. ^ A serif font? On a website? Are you mad? You missed a geeky opportunity to use choose-your-own-adventure books* as an example in your "second-person is a bit self-manipulation-y" *https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_Wolf_%28gamebooks%29
  2. I think non-transparent proxies generally and wasn't really expecting it to work - Dropbox and Google Drive work fine, OneDrive has never really worked. For comparison purposes, Lync 2013 works fine for Skype for Business with Office365 contact lookup with a system proxy on Yosemite. I'm holding off on El Capitan until Xmas when I'll have time to check all my tools work on it before upgrading.
  3. ^ You're not missing much. On Yosemite it goes "I shall completely ignore your system proxy settings and just sulk".

    Nagios

Yeah, it's a fork of Observium (which has a free/paid version split - difference is paid gets features sooner). LibreNMS devs are more polite.
  5. ^ I think I have downloaded copies (installers + instructions) from October-ish. IIRC I got side-tracked before testing them. PM if you want them, but I'm not sure they're current.
  6. ^ And the fix for that is to get onto Guardware 4.3.2.6 or better.
  7. @Geoff Does autoremove handle "I tried to install this kernel image but ran out of space so I've left it there unconfigured", well for you? I've had grief in the past. Day-to-day it works fine for keeping /boot tidy but I've always chosen to clear a full /boot manually.
  8. ^ You have a whole bunch of kernel updates installed and /boot has filled. Uninstall all but the current kernel you're using and then retry updating. uname -a will tell you the kernel you're currently using. Then dpkg -l | grep linux-image to see how many kernel versions you have installed. sudo aptitude remove linux-image-blah to get rid of all but the kernel Linux is actually running on (found out above using uname -a) and any superseding it. Example attached, but I only have one kernel installed on the box I used.
  9. Just a note that we're seeing flaky Internet in Lincolnshire too - mostly gateway timeouts and problems accessing sites hosted outside the UK.
  10. ^ Download the .iso files from MyAccount and unpack the contents using 7-zip or similar.
  11. This is probably a bit niche, but if anyone's running Guardware from e-Safe with Avast for Business 10.3.2508 (clean install or upgraded from another version), be aware that you might have web browsers being unable to access the Internet. Symptoms are: Everything looks OK (routing, DNS, ftp, proxy settings, Window's built-in connectivity detection), but no websites (including local LAN sites) will load. Turning off Avast or Guardware (doesn't matter which) will cause things to start working again. A remove and reinstall of Avast doesn't make a difference post-reboot. This is on Windows 7 Pro 64bit, updated to the Nov 2015 patches.
  12. Poking around a bit more, what I'm after is automating the "Notice Board Summary" with "Arrangement Types" set to "Rooms", but that's only available via the print dialogue and spits out to local temp files. The "HTML" option spits out absences and room changes to the c7data folder on the SIMS share, which is good, but I'd really like just the room changes.
  13. ^ My plan was to run the schedule at 6pm and then 08:45 on the day. That should capture most of the scheduled room changes and the "Jenkins has broken his leg overnight" changes before morning registration. @Boredguy How automated is that?
  14. How do you communicate room changes to staff and students in a timely (and ideally paper-free) manner? We're currently still using paper, which is annoying for our admin ladies when someone wanders in with a last-minute change request. Form tutors then skim through the list of changes and announce the relevant ones to their form at registration. SIMS Cover can spit out a simple html daily room changes report which I could then push to Xibo/homepages/email(as a PDF ideally)/maybe school bulletins in SIMS. Ideally, I'd schedule the report, spit it out to somewhere overwriting the previous report and then have a webserver scoop it up and display it on Xibo/homepages.... But I'm not entirely sure that SIMS will let me (via CommandReporter or other method) schedule the Cover reports.

    Fallout 4

I found a set of X01 armour high up on a tower block roof (I think near the fallen sky bridge). It's guarded, but a bit of jet pack shenanigans fixed that. Now I have 3 sets of armour with different paint jobs (hot pink + flames, red + flames, green shark hot rod).
  16. We use Techconnect (or similar) faceplates for this. Run two VGA/HDMI feeds up to the projector and terminate into a double-gang faceplate.
  17. I would push back with "Can show me the permissions you actually need, not what permission groups your developers told you to ask for". There's a SIMS permissions spreadsheet kicking around on MyAccount that'll be useful.
  18. ARD is (IIRC) licensed per controlling (admin) Mac that uses ARD to control/connect to client Macs. The endpoint client/listener is built into OS X by default.
  19. Yup. There was a teaser with your mugshot from the website in last week's paper (spotted in barbers yesterday) saying it'd be in this week's edition.
  20. Don't you need a "media enquiries" page now you're in the paper? (Page 6)
  21. If you get them at the right time of the month, a bit of arm-twisting can improve that.
  22. ^ what @FN-GM said. If they can describe the problem coherently and provide screenshots of what they're seeing, we do what we can. If the problem is their ISP/home setup that's on them to fix.
  23. I'm waiting for more info on:
  24. We moved from McAfee (LEA paid) to Avast (free) and the free offering from Avast is much better (in terms of client impact, day-to-day admin, detection). Not to mention I don't have to support a flaky Tomcat on Apache on Windows excuse for a management server to herd it.
  25. Yeah, I spotted your post. I'd quite like there to be an option that didn't involve "Pete, can you.......?" and instead be a self-service option.
