Hi We use the software on a terminal server, and it would be useful to collect (in the e-mail / database) the location the user signed on from. for example This is an automated notification from AUP Informant. administrator accepted your usage policy on 01/06/2010 at 10:03. Well Sysprep is the Official way to do things, NewSID is just another tool (with a few other special abilities) Really, we should be deploying Vista / Win7 via Windows Deployment Services and not needing to change the SID of a workstation. We (a business) unfortunately use Windows XP, so it might be useful here (im using it with vmware for some test workstations to package to MSI) Its probably not a useful tool anymore so Microsoft are depreciating it. Graeme ...p.s The page says Version 4.0 introduces support for Windows XP and .NET Server, a wizard-style interface, allows you to specify the SID that you want applied, Registry compaction and also the option to rename a computer (which results in a change of both NetBIOS and DNS names). So it doesnt appear to support Vista/7

Just to let all know, NewSID from Sysinternals (Microsoft) is being retired today. While there will be a million mirrors on the internet afterwards, it might still be sensible to grab it today while the newest is on the site. NewSID v4.10 Get it while its there, "just in case" happy sidgenning

We are only just starting to use collaboration things here - so no, no one here really has used it much. We will likely use a Cisco / Polycom / SMART board system - as these seem to be in place elsewhere in the company (my office is new)

I had this installed once, It was really strange - seemed to work ok. However there was a serious lag with the webcam. So much so, it was possible to setup a conference, wave in to the camera ... _ walk _ ... to the next classroom to see myself appear and wave to myself. I could then wave back and watch as much hilarity ensued. Still it did look a good product

Our supplier - SWGfL requires that all staff sign in to get access. this is logged, the sites they visit are logged. If it does go that staff get unfiltered access - require secondary logon (for protection of course not to annoy ) then log all website visits and make sure they know that this is for "child protection" reasons - point out that as a sysadmin you can see anything they can (personal emails?) or just have it put in writing that you strongly disagree and should this be put in place, you (and all IT admins) will have absolutely no responsibility for it - should a student be exposed to dodgy stuff. worst case, the staff will start mucking about on flash games / ebay / ebaums world. then maybe it could be your duty to report these logs to SMT hth

Depends on the value of packet, for large values of packet it should be ok, for small values of packet, there may be multiples of packet involved in purchasing exchange + outlook.... back to the thread. I had assumed exchange was already in place as an email / calendaring solution. Next stop - Microsoft Sharepoint Services? - RSS feed auto creation (many other clients then) inc new websites, many templates to have things appear pretty - calendar views - windows integrated authentication, pda views. hope this helps (p.s, sharepoint has a small value of packet - namely zero (assuming you have already bought a windows server (any) )

If you (personally) want to be responsible. Then yes, we used a DVD->VCR to convert licensed videos to streaming format for your school (easier to take from dvd than from VHS - backup also) However to "copy" to dvd for teachers? I wouldn't do it. We let them know about copyright and all and said we couldn'd do it. If you get the teacher to check with the publishing company then write a note to say they have checked (keep for later) then even if they dont check but sign - they will be responsible for the copying. hth

there is also the ability to grant full access to the program files\adobe folder through a group policy, although this may not help. computer configuration\security the installer / updater may need full local admin access.

cant help with the ID, but can i ask why spellcheck should be disabled? p.s for exam purposes we allow only notepad, since its practically a typewriter, not a word processor. its much easier to do this not lock down word. we allow spellcheck here, as it at least makes work presentable instead of badly spelled all the way through. hth

Ah, we havent noticed that so much here - It may have happened, but I dont specifically remember incidents of this happening. biggest problems we had seen before, was drive plates smashed in and ram stole, with metal plates behind the plastic here, that was less of an issue. hth

So this is my last week in education IT support - moving on to bigger better (paid) things in industry - still local govt(ish) with lgps and other benefits. still gonna be using this site, as its proved one of my most valuable tools ever. moving from assistant network manager at a school, to Server Administrator (exeter, devon) at a company there. loads more money (almost double my wage) for a practically similar job. see you all soon - but from a different pc!

dont forget if you redirect for all your users it adds a massive load to the server to have all those connections, an alternative is to add custom ones via group policy or by copying to the users logon profile folder. or have them locally and redirect all users to the local copy. we do this here with the startmenu, its redirected to c:\profile\startmenu and can be updated with a robocopy script to copy the files to all of the computers in a room. works here hth

Tell the SMT they are not technical and do not get to make decisions on what they do not understand? - pretty simple really. we did it here and they agreed. we successfully merged the networks here

This "software" will only work if it can get the information of whether the staff member is in or not from some sort of database. if this is in a database, then the information wouldhave been added by a human that should already know this. an other option is to re-actively log the holidays to see who is in or just plain ask the staff? is this in sims (or other school management system)? some ideas - hth

come on this is easy, 1. download the image, add the drivers upload and re clone 2. logon to all the pcs and load the drivers manually both of which would take less than an hour surely? (would here with ghost or one or 2 people loading drivers)
