1. Create user on buffalo called veritas (or similar) 2. Create user on Active Directory called veritas, add to domain admins group 3. Logon to backupexec server as veritas 4. Run BackupExec as veritas user. (change settings) 5. Map drives as this user 6. Robert is your fathers brother. Thats the simple overview of what I did in total. However we now use a drivestation eSATA system that is much much easier. fooby

We don't even use any scripts to install it. Its mostly automatic. f:\public\sims\setups\simsinst.exe (your path may be different) Choose next, next, next etc Run SIMS.net, configure for connect.ini on f:\public\sims\connect.ini Done. As you say in your post, simsinst has a problem. Surely thats a job for scomis / lea support? and if desperate capita?

Initially we installed sims and configured its auto update ini. After cloning all the pc's when there is an update they all selfupdate. They need write access to the sims drive letter (ours is F) as the user they are logged on as. i.e the staff group needs write access. After this, there are no problems fooby p.s The flip side is, how many computers are there that you need to install it on? Surely a semi automatic install isnt a big problem. Just send a tech round to do it all?

We have a form here that is text based with no automatic filling in, only Name, Tutor group Problem Maybe a few more entries, this (once submitted) gets emailed to our student support people (2 or 3 admin people) who then forward e-mails to relevant year heads / teachers and add this entry as a behavior entry in to sims.net. fooby

Hmm, posted earlier - never arrived.... but. I didnt bother with WMI stuff but did similar with my terminal servers. You will need Sellotape* Scissors* GPMC A couple of GPO's Loopback policy processing needs to be set on the machines with a Machine GPO set to Replace Part of this GPO on the OU with these machines needs a User section with the settings you want set.. set. When a User logs on to these Computers, they will get the User part of the GPO that is attached to the Computer OU since Loopback processing is set and there are User settings to be applied. hope this helps. fooby *P.S you don't really need these.

Group polict changes take 5+ reboots to take effect.
fooby replied to starscream's topic in Wireless Networks
To be honest i thought the title of this thread was a statement... not a question. I can fully see that group policy changes can take 4 or 5 reboots. Usually thats about normal. fooby. -

SIMS.NET using PC at front of classroom and projector use.
fooby replied to Paid_Peanuts's topic in MIS Systems
Your head is over super cautious, and really has absolutely no faith in his teaching staff. He thinks they are all imbeciles. I mean come on, all you really need to do is tell the teachers, this is important you cannot have it displayed. Use the hide button on a projector to temporarily stop showing images then carry on after. Asking staff to carry laptops add expense time, and problems. Start quoting the savings to be made from not having to have 2 pc's per staff member. Or switch the projector off? We do this here with SIMS.net on about 40 classrooms with projectors problem free fooby -
We have SIMS lesson monitor and afaik legally have to have paper copies. You might find the same.. fooby

@BKGarry - Process Monitor will reveal what this program can or cannot access. Look for "Access Denied" type messages. Also the Standard User Analyser can tell whats not playing. fooby

Looks like a task for Process Monitor from Microsoft... Find what the program can't do and let it do it fooby

There always was a little silver mirror inside the cart on the ones I cleaned. It seemed to think it was empty after I attached a white sticker to it fooby
