http://vle.carrhill.lancs.sch.uk.nyud.net:8090/mirrors/BBC/ Is a Coral Cache link, it should (eventually) mirror the site in to its mammoth network. fooby

@bishopsgarthstockton: How do you do a weekly scan / delete? and @ChrisH: How do you do this? I'm sure there are many threads on how to do these things (i dont want to hijack this one but please point me in the direction) fooby

moodle ldap default values if not set by AD

If any of my line managers ask, alan-d said I can go home! woo!! fooby -
Depends on the class, some of the IT teachers here allow students music as long as they produce the work. if the work is not done then they lose email access and arent allowed to play lan games when every1 else who has finished is allowed. this gets them working more and not mucking about with music. I think its more classroom management more than network blocking needed, although ABTutor is goood for blocking flash for persistent offenders and the IT teachers here are used to doing this. fooby

Psexec mute.exe muahahahahah We tend to block most of the websites to start with, youtube, google video, myspace etc. And yes, a lot of these sites are using flash player. fooby

Half-code fooby-madeup if exist value for location in active directory set location == active_directory(location) else set location == "default_location" end if (not real code) Is this the logic you are looking for? There is a line in the Data Mapping section that states however where these "defaults" are I couldn't find in my install. I have included the data mapping settings from my setup here fooby data_mapping.doc -
In this case, I would seek the use of AUP's and severely b**l*ck each one and make it known. Disable their user accounts for a week (make them do paper work) disable their access to e-mail for a week or so (make them use pen drives floppies etc) one of these will slow them down. ICT access is a privilege not a right here maybe thats where you need to lean towards? Some days when im feeling especiall evil, I can sit with AB Tutor open and watch half the school's screens and close flash games as kids open them, much hilarity ensues as they spend ages trying to work it out. (evil) fooby

I have that here also, but over 24 hours to do a backup of our student data (400gb) and then staff (300gb) then theres SIMS (200gb) exchange (100gb) - i was hoping DPM could do some magic so i dont need 20tb to cover mein backup to disk fooby

I like that "started talking about computers so I switched off" the thing that angers me is that even with this lack of respect - we will still have to help them....... fooby
-
Thanks, I have done some investigating and so far it seems to be ok as a file / share backup. It cannot do exchange or SQL. fooby

ebutude? or is that sort of thing really naughty. fooby

e러ë‹ì´ 한·미 FTA êµìœ¡ê°œë°©ì˜ 숨겨진 무기? .... well? what do you think? why someone (i assume japaneese?) wants that address ill probably never know fooby..... goes looking to google translate

Most likely, that appears on all of mine at computer startup. If the software isnt there it installs (ages) if it is already installed then it whizzes past pretty quick. fooby

Banned here also, youtube and google videos. Mainly dross on it, some one needs to add a education video sharing site - without the endless cats jumping from bushes on to kids videos. fooby ... that said do a video search for japan prank- hilarious!

In the windows startup dialog box, it does say installing managed software:Office 2003 (software example) so it is there, but then teachers dont read it, there are red banners on websites i have written, they still dont read it. Fighting a lost battle i think. fooby

In the past I have used http://www.opensourcecms.com/ to find CMS's and forums and things, it has demo's you can play with and break and lots of info on them. Maybe a good starting point. fooby

Seems ok on the website - http://www.cyberdefender.com/ although i dont know how well it might go in a school. however for home or those many "friends" that "just need a few things sorted" this might be a good priced piece of software. fooby

What you might find is that many of the teachers will take the "more work" attitude and not do it, you might get 3 or 4 teachers take part. We here however have a pro-ict head and director of ict that puts in training sessions that all staff can attend. It is in the development plans that all teachers aim to get courses to the vle also. Unless they are pushed towards it i don't know that you will get many staff take up. Still, this is my opinion of what i have seen in this college here, yours may be different. fooby

Is there a printer attached and configured with these computers? Access needs a printer (stupidly) to be able to decide it can make reports. This was the fix for a similar lack of ability in access. fooby

Is it just me or does everybody get errors when they try to do the registry key part of MaSaI? Cannot perform '=' operation on System.Int16 and System.String fooby P.S: also on my laptop this happens. -
Ah rite I see. In that case a LART might help... http://catb.org/jargon/html/L/LART.html fooby

You will need to reinstall R2 to the boxen to "down / up"grade to the new package.... As far as Microsoft is concerned you can only go Ent - Ent and Std - Std. Now if there were to be a way around that..... Only google may know. Also - I tried what you said about the printing and ... no it installes new services to run the new print management and it doesnt work trying to convince it from another pc. Other than costing new Ent licenses - there isnt any easy option... apart from a re build of the network fooby
