Is it the same display when you look as admin / that user / different user? Colour settings are per user, so if they change their colours, yours wont. Also its safe to delete desktop.ini, I ban them here (the files) XP clients search for these over 1000 folders and it takes 5 mins plus to list all the folders. fooby P.S Do a search of their document folders and delete all of the desktop.ini files.

We have the glass fronted ones in an adult learning room, covered in finger marks I have also visited another school where they had standard TFT's (without glass) they had none broken and thought these were better than glass front. Personally I think the non-glass are better, to break a tft you have to whack it hard and a glass front will only slow down the inevitable. fooby

I don't know about other peoples experiences, However we as a school have decided to go HP only as far as we can. Bad experiences with other makes / models of printers have made us change. We like HP so much so that we buy refurb's and know they will work http://www.laserink.co.uk/html/refurbishedhpprinters.html is our main supplier. I'm still from the security over complaints way. We have an approachable principal and after talking with them they agreed (start scaring them with the possibility of students accessing confidential data and that there would be lawsuits) this way they agree. And coming from the top down you are ok. Personally, I would have it lock after 2 minutes, the amount of times teachers leave the desk with sims.net open / their my docs folder with all their work in :@ When I was a student, if you left your pc logged on and walked away the nice helpful students in the suites would lovingly delete all your home folder. This way you learned the hard way to logoff properly / don't leave things unattended. Oh and backups?.. no chance :/ fooby

Doesn't appear so, You could 2-step the process and backup to disk then ntbackup those files to a tape. Didn't notice that since we don't do tape backups (sshh dont tell anyone ) It can do to CD / DVD, FTP, Windows Network Share (samba too I guess) fooby

We applied the same thing 5 minutes, teachers winging for a few months then they just got used to it. Its just a pain barrier, get the director / head of ict or your data protection officer to send out an email / letter telling the reasons why (use scary long legal words) Eventually they will give up moaning. Incidentally if there is a popup menu (the start menu should do this) open, then the screensaver wont activate fooby

In the GPO for these users go to user config > admin templates > desktop > active desktop > active desktop wallpaper > and set the wallpaper with an image you specify which will prevent the users from changing the wallpaper at all. this is the microsoft documented way. if you dont want a wallpaper create a 1pixel image file save this as a .bmp and then set it to that. or set it to a file that doesnt exist. this locks out the set as wallpaper setting fooby

This is a small list that looks at the process name "notepad.exe" somehow when office opens programs they automagically pass this list. What you can do is use Software Restriction Policies to lock them down (its a lot stronger) Try User Configuration > Windows Settings > Software Restriction Policies !!
