Hi all (have searched - cant find) We are experiencing a weird problem where DNS records do not match PC's, an example of which is PC-01 resolves to 1.2.3.4 and PC-02 resolves to 1.2.3.4 (example addresses) there are also problems where PC-03 resolves to an IP address somewhere else. We are noticing this more with classroom management systems, where i monitor in a room, say ROOM1 and the pc are sequentially numbered ROOM1-01 -02 -03 etc some of these machines for example ROOM1-08 will resolve the wrong address and actually show me ROOM2-24. Im reasonably sure its my DNS servers, so is there a way to safely wipe all the computer records so that they can be re created correctly? Has anyone else had weird issues like this? I think all I would need to do is wipe all the A records for the pc's but i dont want to trash my domain. any help would be appreciated fooby

Vote 2 for filemon, its the only way to resolve this really. 1. gain access to cmd, runas /user:admin cmd 2. filemon fooby

I would think its likely that Does the PC have a default gateway set? (start, run, cmd, ipconfig /all) Maybe the first google result for searching "your network adaptor does not have a default gateway" will help http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913843 Do not blindly follow the instructions, check the gateway, if the pc is dhcp then add the values to the dhcp server to be pushed out. fooby

trying to control office clipart on network
fooby replied to LOUD's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Luckily for us here, we use Wingate proxy, which with the Winsock Redirector allows any program to access the internet without* using a proxy. The Winsock redirector makes the connection from the proxy server to the net (using the south west grid for learning proxy) to the internet and allows office to believe that it is connected directly. I know this doesnt help this situation too well, however I would recommend wingate as another internal proxy solution fooby... ... doesnt work for wingate. -
Have you looked at Splunk? thats quite interesting. fooby

Sarcasm? Or really? Either way I use it here and have found its pretty smart. The only thing you will need to watch for is having seperate settings for laptops or pc's (if you want that) and to check the users and computers settings seperatly. fooby

http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=power_mgt.pr_pm_ez_gpo EZ GPO software Network administrators at organizations using the latest Microsoft servers (Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 servers) and operating systems (Windows 2000 or XP) often use Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to manage their organization’s desktops. However, as currently designed, GPOs cannot alter a computer’s power management settings. (EZ GPO is not compatible with Windows Vista operating system.) ENERGY STAR’s free EZ GPO tool allows a network administrator to centrally control power management settings using GPOs. In addition to setting monitor power management, EZ GPO can also activate “system standby,†which places the computer (CPU, hard drive, etc.) to sleep.* http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=power_mgt.pr_pm_ez_gpo

robocopy \\network\folder\Cubase "c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\Cubase" /e At a guess. This will require robocopy to exist on these music computers. this can be added to a standard logon script, or added to a script that only applies to these computers (by many methods) fooby
