Pearson onscreen platform installation woes

Before I start creating my CC4 packages, are there any permissions I need to set? -
This is not our experience - a partially successful upgrade of desktop machines, if there are one or two off at the mains, will not automatically upgrade those machines once they are powered up. The teacher gets an incompatible database error message and I have to manually redeploy the update to that machine.
-
It might download in the background, but it only loads if the machine is on when the update is deployed, else it will fail. While this works fine for my desktop machines, which I can wake up and deploy SIMS to via SOLUS 3 out of hours, it is not a viable solution for the 100+ staff laptops we have. Staff bring these machines in from home, boot them up, and expect SIMS to work immediately. With the right permissions on the machine this is the case with SOLUS 2. It doesn't happen with SOLUS 3. When I was on the course for SOLUS 3 I raised this with my instructor. His reply was to call in all laptops the day before I do an update. Apart from the fact that this will never happen (teachers don't like letting go of their laptops), where exactly am I meant to put 100+ laptops, powered up, overnight, while I run SOLUS 3? It's a great solution for desktop machines, but laptops still need to pull the updates. I'm dreading the day SOLUS 2 ends.

Love the soft centres, it's the nutty ones that are always left here.

RXXX-asset number for student desktops. IWB-RXXX-asset number for classroom IWB machines. ADM-staffcode-asset number for office machines. LAP-staffcode-asset number for staff laptops. LAPRXXX-asset number for student laptops. Dropping the hyphen in student laptops means staff laptops come first when alphabetically sorted. Servers get sitecode-use-number.

When I was little, it was always a nativity scene behind the last window - that's what it is, isn't it - we're getting a donkey... -
Then take out the -unlicencedusersonly part. Getmsoluser -all is an accepted command.
-
I used the command: Get-MsolUser -UnlicencedUsersOnly -All| Set-MsolUserLicense -AddLicenses :OfficeSUBSCRIPTION_STUDENT. I did have to set the location to GB first - I don't have the command to hand I used. Try adding a licence through the web interface - when I did that I was prompted to set location.
-
That explains it - we were trying Sales, as we don't yet need to access the helpdesk. An answerphone message would have been helpful.
-
We can't get through to Tasc on the phone - is there a problem there?
-
I think I would have asked for world peace...

We once had a pat tester test a whole trolley of laptops, and sticker each one of them as passed. I was really impressed, being as I had the key to the charger compartment in my pocket.

I do access the services remotely and attempt to restart the service. It fails to do so. All our SIMS machines are subject to the same GPOs, and built in the same way, from the same image, so I doubt very much it's permissions, as it only effects 5-10% of machines. Which machines it affects is random.

Why can't we re-install the solus agent? Too often I find a machine where the agent is installed, but the service fails to start. A simple, quick solution should be to simply re-install the agent, but no. We have to wait until the machine isn't in use, uninstall the agent, remove the machine from Solus3, re-add it, hope the agent installs this time. What should have been a great tool, if thought through, is a headache, as I have to check machines for running agents. It's not the best antivirus, but look how Sophos handles agents on machines. I just assign the agent by GPO and Sophos knows it's there. puts it in the correct group if it was there before, or puts it in an "unassigned" group if it hasn't seen it previously.

What about google docs? A quick search found this:
-
I managed to get it to run yesterday. I ran Get-MSOLAccountSku | format-list which showed my license type as OfficeSUBSCRIPTION_STUDENT. I then ran Get-MsolUser -UnlicencedUsersOnly -All| Set-MsolUserLicense -AddLicenses :OfficeSUBSCRIPTION_STUDENT, which added the licenses as required.

My Dutch son-in-law now lives in Sheffield, and has incorporated a number of Sheffield/yorkshire sayings into his speech. I have never heard anything funnier that "I'm right chuffed about that" said in a Dutch accent. -
Voted on all three browsers I have installed.
-
Have a look at Class Charts - seating plans and behavior management software - our lot love them.

You need a specialist karaoke disk ripper - there are a few around.
-
Karaoke disks are dual layer, and don't work in all CD-ROM drives. Check whether you can rip the disk to a mp3 and cdg file for each track. The Winamp and CDG plugin work well on the two file combination.

Passed onto both Maths and Computing.
-
Have you tried installing the drivers on a machine and then looking in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository? Sort by date modified and you should find your drivers.

I'm waiting for the second release (there's always a second release!)

I'll take those Nephilim - can you send me details of how to pay you?
