Because I'm a cretin who didn't really think about doing it that way? To be honest it's a case of I have scripted it using bat files so why not script it with vbs when it gets complicated. Might have a look and see what needs doing to use the file options in preferences. Shame really I'd almost got there, was just trying to figure out how to create the folders if they didn't exist.

Got it, for some reason there is a space on the end of the OS Version that I hadn't got in my IF statement.

Now I am working on a windows 7 Pro machine but the If statement returns a fasle result so echo's "it's all gone wrong". Why? I'm still working on it which is why the first echo show the OS and I'm not copying the correct files.

Just to ask, how did you diable the network discovery? Did you use Computer Config ==> Admin Templates ==> Network ==> Link layer Topology Discovery ==> Turn on Mapper I/O? Or another method?

Having been throug that thread I'm still having issues... 3: Deleting the "desktop.ini" as per the instruction in the re-directed folders seems to make no difference. When I enabled the GPO (@GATT's post) it hid half the icons, unfortunately the re-directed half so user's couldn't access their documents. IT also seems to break my re-directed start menu. 2: Enabling the GPO (from point 3) did get rid of my unwanted desktop icons but had the other side effect that means I can't use it. 1: Had a quick look at the ADM however I was wondering if it's possible to apply it to the user rather than the machine (can I just change the class??) as I'd quite like those settings to be there when I log in!

Basically I'm copying some files from the server to the local profile path. It's in a script that happens once a week just to make sure the computers are upto date. It's mostly some document templates and shortcut links.

Right, Thought I'd add to the how do I configure Win7 Issues. I have three problems as far as I can see: 1: How do I hide the network without hacking the registry. Not massively keen on that idea unless I have too. is there a GP? 2: When I log as a student in I seem to have a "student" icon, a libaries icon and a "Control Panel Icon". How do I stop the latter two appearing? 3: When I click on the "Student" icon it brings up a number of folders. These seem to be a merge of the students network locations and local ones. For examply I have a "Pictures" folder looking at c:\users\student\pictures and a "My Pictures" looking at h:\my pictures. How do I stop the local ones appearing? Help please!

Hi there, I need a script to copy files from my network to a location on the PC. However I need it to copy the the files to a different loaction depending on the OS of the PC. Basically I'm copying stuff to the profile path and I've got Win7 and XP clients. Can anyone help?

Turn on hidden files and check there nothing there. Also check that you have full control over all the files in the directory (if there are any). In the past Ive had problems with odd Java files in users profile folder where only the user has ad access. I've had to manually take owernership, give myself permission to delete then delete them.

I'm currently using Acronis to back up to disk. If I'm honest it's OK. It does the job, the downside is it that browsing through the backup file takes a while. The only "Complaint" I have is that I can't join my NAS to my domain so I have to specify the usernam and password to access it in the Acronis job. This is a problem because EVERY time I make a config changes it defaults back to the network account used to create the job/access the files and I have to remember to re-enter teh details (which are hidden on an advanced menu!!!)

Does anyone have any recomendations for a package (prefereably free ) that I can use to edit the GPS properties of JPEG Images? (I want to tag some that are not tagged)

@ascott2: Thanks it seems to have wored fine. I had downloaded it (eventually) but totally switched off! After having tried two reg cleaner programs that ran as the last stage of the wizzard I installed MS's program then when it didn't do anything I got frustrated and went onto something else. Forgot you have to actually run the program

OK So I'm getting hacked off. I'm trying to update my Java installation but I can't get the old version off. I cant uninstall it, I've tried a couple of registry cleaners and they are not helpfull. I've looked at the rubbish instructions on java's site and my google fu is weak. To make matters worse I can't seem to install the version my computers think they have or a new version of Java either. So can anyone help me? How to I manually convice my computer that it doesn't have Java installed? What regkeys do I need to remove and any other files or folders?

Nope. The staff are too small and can't reach the top as it is (and some cupboards stop me lowering the board on the wall).

I have seen it before where the two sections of board come appart. You see I would have thought that because it's all the way accross the boad in a section it might be some of the connections inside that part of the board.

Rubbish! Accrding to promethean the electronics match the board size. Thus the 3 78" boards I bought at the same time are no good when it comes to checking the 64" board that's broken.

Just to expand my problem where the board goes wrong it basically puts it "spiky" lines rather that what I am drawing. It's as though the board is not detecting the path of the pen, instead it detect's the pen at 1 point then the pen at another and assume's the pen moved striaght to that point and draws a straight line. When I talked to Promethean this didn't take much explaining and the guy seemd to imply that it was a problem they new happened from time to time. Has anyone else had this? If so was it fixed by swapping the electronics or had the board surface failed?

If I have boards bopught at the same time and are the same model board (i.e Presenta Boards) but are different sizes, is that going to make any differnce if I swap the electronics?

I had considered that. I had aslo considered busting two boards.... To be honest I am inclined to believe it's the board's surface rather than the electronics. Given the problem stays in a specific area of the board and everywhere else is fine I would have thought that pointed to a physical problem with that area of the board rather than swapping a circuit board.

£1400 in VAT, delivery and install.

One of my promethean boards has failed and won't draw properly in an area of the board (a n area 6" high stretching all the way accross the boad about 4" from the bottom). THe board is 4 years old an our of warranty. After chatting to promethean they say it's either the board surface or the electronics. Now I can replace the electronics for between £260 and £500 depending on whether I pay for an engineer or do it myself. The problem is if it's not the electronics I then have to replace the board anyway. So the question is do I just stuff it and buy a new board? As I type this I'm leaning towards just going for a new board.

I'm ccurrently pushing for it here, even though we are in independent school and the primary reason for the software, child truancy, isn't as valid. Basically I am using a numebr of points already mentioned here: Recording minute late Better access to behaviour/achievement Forcing people to have SIMS open and thus use it more. Part of the reason for having it is documented data rather than anacdotal, "Student x is always late", "How late?", "err...". It also means that all the data is centralised. This means that when a parent phones up to complain we can have a record that their child had been late x number of times and how late. The data is at their fingertips rather than the member of staff on the phone having to fob them off for a time and then ring them back when they have the information. It is also so you can spot patterns. For example if two pupils are in the same lesson one period then they go to differnet lessons but are 5 minuts late if both teacher record that in isolation then they may not realise that the two nip off for a cheaky snog after lesson (for example ). Another plus it the ability to put information in in the future. For example if student x is in lessons period 1 and 2 then goes home sick an appropiate member of staff could add in to that students lessons that they were off sick. When a class teacher looks at their class in SIMS they see that student x is not here and send time asking where they are, chasing the issue up after lessons. It also removes whatever process you currently have for chasing missing pupils. We have a very silly process where if a student misses a lesson the staff member has to write up on a list in the staff room which student's are missing. that is then checked by the housemasters who then have to scribble notes on it as to why they are off (if they know) or chase it up. If the information is recorded as part of the class registration then staff don't worry about it and Housemasters get a nice graph on the computers in their offices.
