  1. Well that's a bit of a pain.... I was just contemplating the old argument of PaperCut vs Print Manager plus that I've seen on here a number of times and trying to work out, given that I already know you had the PostScript version working, whether to jump ship from the Print Manager Plus that we already have. Given your closing in on getting PCL 6 wartermarking working and according to an E-mail I received from PMP asking if they were looking into something similar "We currently have no plans to implement this feature in the next version" it's a real temptation... Blast I hate having to think.
  2. I've just booked my train tickets and Hotel and I'll be down Wednesday and Thursday!
  3. So not just us then Cheers for the info. Good to know
  4. A little while ago we revamped our website, updated our school logo and had a document produced detailing the school branding guidelines. Detailed enough to give the college a consistant look and feel but with enough slack to allow dept's to show their individuality. So I was intregued at the last parents evening for out 5th form to make them think about their A-level choices to notice how many people totally ignored them. So I was wondering does your school have branding guildeines for all "public" documents and are the followed/enforced and events (like parents evening and presentations)?
  5. One final Question (and actually I think I know the answer but I just want to be absolutely sure), the handsets are registered to the hub aren't they? Thus if I register some devices, remove the hub and take it to another computer the divces will still work. Or in my example if I register all 128 handests sat relaxed in my warm office the day before our event I can take the hub out of my PC, put the hub in the PC that we will be using and voila all 128 handsets ready to go.
  6. Cheers for the info. It's not something I'm thinking of in the short term but I just want to do some tentative research to decide if I want to go with it.
  7. Maybe not the right forum for this but has anyone got a "Follow Me" Printing solution set up? What are you using to provide the service? What sort of cost would I be looking at? (Yes I know I'm being vague but I'm only just starting to look at this to see if it's a viable option for here)
  8. I was wondering if it's possible to set two file screen's on 1 folder in FSRM. The server seems to say no but I was wondering if anytone can think of a way round it. I need two screen's as they need seperate settings. There needs to be a screen blocking the creation of desktop.ini so that my Win 7 machines stop causing problems with my folder lists and but I don't need any record of that. I do however need a screen and a record of anyone trying to create executable files on the servers. Any suggestions?
  9. Just been playing with one of these as a tentative start in the world of remote access but I've got a slight problem with certification. I've set up two user portals with seperate URL's to keep our two domains seperate when people try and get access from outside. I've got two certificates one for each URL and both work but not both together, so depending on which certificate I have active the other portal site still generates a certificate error. Anyone know what I do to get round this? Is there something on the SonicWall box I need to look at, something I'm doing wrong with the certificates? Help!
  10. Cheers for the info. Sorry to be lazy but I'm a bit snowed under, you haven't got a link to the latest firmware and an idiots guide on what to do? (Actually they do work with the self paced stuff because I've done it but I might have some time over Christmas to update the firmware.
  11. Hi there, Is there a limit on the number of Expression Handsets that can be connected to a single ActivHub? Specifically I want to connect all of out 128 handsets up to a single hub for some mass audiance participation. Cheers
  12. What link did you go to? When I go to the KB article and click "request hotfix" I still get a "system currently unavailable" message
  13. So usefully Microsoft's Hotfix request service is down. Which is an issue as I need the hotfix that fixes the backgrounds not displaying properly on windows 7 when applied through group policy, KB977944 I have the 32bit version but I need the 64 bit version. Does anyonw have a copy or way I can download it? Or failing that should i trust The Hotfix Share Portal which it seems to be on but I was a little unconvinced about downloading patches from random sites...
  14. Hi there, I've got and odd issue with Sibelius 6 when using the licence server component. We've got 7 machine in our music lab (all XP) and I've just bought 4 more (win7). I uninstalled Sibelius 5 and all it's components from the machine and then installed Sib6. I wrote a little batch file that runs the installer with the command line switches to enter the licence key and IP of the licence server. After installing the software the 4 new machine and two of the old one's connect fine. However 5 of the existing machine don't. In fact they try to go through the normal registartion process. The server is running fine and I have enough licences. The log doesn't show any activity, it's like the clients are not connecting... The machines can all ping the server, there's no firewall but I just don't know why it won't work. Anyone had anything similar or could suggest anything?
  15. Psyom, Yep I've got loopback running and yep the users do have permissions to run the scripts. I always forget about preferences for reg editing, might have a look. Interestingly after some trial and error I discovered the problem. If I apply the GPO to a computer group (thorough the security filtering) the lookback processing doesn't process the user config. If I put it back to "Authenticated" user it all works well. Given that I have to put a diffenet licence key into each comptuer and I really don't want to add rubbish to the registry on every computer I think I have three options: 1: User Preferences with Item level targetting (machine name) 2: Scripted applied to the whole network (the script looks at the machine name and only modifys the reg on certian machine but it means every machine has to run it Not really sure what the "Best" solution to that is... I don't want the script running unncessarily.
  16. An additional update. I created a new GPO and assigned it to my test user. I added my script into the Login Script key within group policy and... script works. So for some reason the new GPO I created that applies the security and the user login script isnt working and running the user setting. Whislt running the script for all users is not the end of the world I don't really want to be doing that for the sake of 15 computers. I just don't understand why the script won't run yet my printer scripts, which are set up in exacly the same way do.
  17. So I'm a bit cheesed off with my Group Policy and I'm a bit stuck now. I've got a piece of software that requires the registration key to be put in the registry under HKCU. So my choices were to require the user to input it the first time they use it (not really an option) or script it. I've written my script, tested it and I know it works. Created a GPO and have it apply to a security group of computers. the GPO makes the necessary file and registry security changes and then runs a login script to make the necessary registry changes that's enable using the User group policy processing loopback. Now here is where we hit the problem. The scripts, as far as I can tell isn't running. The script works if I manually run it when the user logs in. My printer scripts that are set up identically are running. My other login script that modifies the registry works (though that IS applied to the user). It even works if I replace the the users login script to this one. The rest of the policy is applying as I can see the security changes but fo some reason this VBS script won't work. Any ideas what on earth could cause this as I'm stuck
  18. Garamond. Yep. I deleted the font files of one of the PC's and then re-installed them from the other.
  19. Have we found an actual bug? Or are we both making the same mistake?
  20. For reference our Head of ICT only has teacher level access. Having said that a better line of discussion is "What exaclty are you trying to achieve?" As them to list the things that they need to be able to do and you will see if you can do it without giving them domain admin rights. i.e. through NTFS permissions and delegeated control as has been mentioned. I'd also point out that with domain admin rights they could go through everything if they wanted to. Even if you blocked their access they could take control and change the permissions.
  21. Well yesterday I thought it was there and today when I looked it turns out that not only is it there but I had already set up the security to block it. It turns out it stopped working..... I made changes to another policy (Policy 2) on that OU and enabled group policy loopback processing in merge mode. For some reason, despite being blocked from reading and applying the policy in question (Policy 1) it still applied. when I disabled loopback processing on policy 2, policy 1 stopped being applied. How strange. And irritating.
  22. Hi, I'm wanting to deny a policy to a computer. I have a number of PC's in an OU but there is 1 PC in the department that I do not want the policy to be applied to. Now I could go down the route of reorganising my AD structure but it's going to complicate it and it's a bit needless if I can do, as I could in 2003 server deny the policy application to a PC/Group. Can I do it under the deligation tab? The scope tab just lists who the policy is appied to... any suggestions.
  23. We pay Just over £10K (inc VAT) for 10Mb on a 10Mb bearer, leased line with no contention. plus a bit extra form some smoothie filtering.
  24. Not seen this before but I've got a powerpoint presentation that opens differently on two PC's and I'm not sure how to get round it. Both are Office 2007 and XP. I think (and I've not checked) that both are running in 1027x768 resolution but are different PC's. The slides that I am looking at are a simple text box with some text in. In certain places are a number of underscores to leave a blank space where a word should be. There are then text boxes with word's inin the spaces that animate to appear in the space as the teacher teachers. The problem is that the main text box displays differently on the PC's, there are fractionall less words on each line and so the spaces are differnet places. This means the teacher can't make changes in his office then go and teach. What would cause this? The font is the same on both PC's as I've deleted them and reinstalled them from the same source. Something to do with having differnet printers maybe? Any idea's as I'm stuck.
  25. Ah, just spotted it. You have to Enable the Policy then tick another box withing the policy to turn it on Thank you Microsoft!
