Has anyone tried running PASS using a server farm to provide the DB? Specifically the financial side. Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about server farms other than the theory behind them, my small bit of research indicates that there could be latency issues as the database is replicated between servers. Whislt we are not that big I'm looking at my options if we wanted to run a single installation over multiple sites. Option B is running a VPN between the sites and then connecting that way but that means that if the internet goes down so does one site's acces to PASS. But then that causes issues with replication....

Won't the Server CAL's be included in your agreement? Thus you would just need the multipoint CAL's

Actually I have the same question. I am looking at XenDesktop and possibly XenApp. I've found some books on Amazon, one for XenDesktop 4, not the latest V5 and on that seems to be exaclty what I want... In German. My german is weak. Anyone have any reading guidline (setup and confuguring, best practices etc.) I don't maind paying for propper books and whilst I've got some of the free versions downloaded I'd like to do some reading up to know more about what I'm doing.

[EntirelyDifferentRant]And it's got the current week as a date cycle!!![/EntirelyDifferentRant] back on point, if you want a count of the number of detentions over a period create a new report with the data area set to Behaviour Management ==> Detentions. Add in a couple of fields, filter by date range, Under "Define presentations" Drop the report into Excel and tick the "Record Count" box (below the divider frequence and print preview box). Run the report. Sims then lists the detentions and puts the record count in the top right corner of the header.

Probably best I not repeat the "fun" I had with Websense but lets just say that I've been in a similar position and am now no longer a Websense customer. I certainly have a lot of negative feelings towards them. I also could never get the reporter to run after an upgrade. You should pity the poor bloke who phoned me up to say "Hi I'm your new account manager, would you like your renewal subscription information?". I very bluntly explained why I would not be renewing my subscription and pointed out that it's advisable to have a look at the case notes for each customer before phoning them up that way you know which ones have massive beef.

Yep we went with BT as there were quite reasonable, we also got the offer of double whay you buy, so we bought a bought a 10Mb connection but pay for 5, we had to pay for installation though. Yes you can buy a big pipe and restrict it to reduce you what you want but increase it as necessary.

Just wondering, who's in charge of your pupil contact data? For example we have here one member of staff who's job it is to update all the information in SIMS, changes of address etc. In theory the information normally comes into the Bursay, or the head's office or housemaster/mistress, is passed on and she updates SIMS. I then occasionaly check things to look for anything strange or just force her to double check sections. Now we could skip a step as all the people I mentioned, becuase of the nature of their role's change the data. Which could be an idea or a recipie for disaster. So I just wondered what sort of things do you do? Whats your policy for data management? I'll settle for "in theory" if you don't whan to confess what actually happens

Yes and no. The code in Excel opens the source file, copys the data in then saves and closes the mail merge source then opens the mail merge file. There is then a macro in the mail merge file that runs on AutoOpen which simply runs a mail merge. This fails if I run it using the documents.open method but works if I run the Shell method of opening the document. Just to clarify here is my process. Data exported from SIMS. data copied into mail merge source document. Data copied from sheet1 (with formulas) to sheet2 (no formula's data only - so mail merge works). Save and close. Open word document. Word documents opens, perfomrs merge and closes source template. Thus the end user is just left with report then need.

Hmm.. Slight update here. It appears that I can't use Andy_b's way. The document I am trying to open is a mail merge template. When I open the document using that method it looses the merge source information. If I open it using the shell command I am prompted to merge the data in as normal. Why would that be?

Honestly, no. Having just got our staff using behaviour management for the first time over the last two weeks I'm still fire fighting basic use without looking for problems Sorry. I'll have a look if I get chance.

To be honest I would like to do it. However a my two day window is a little tight for me as it doesnt leave me much time for other things if I'm going to spend a day upgrading and learning how to use the new g3. If it was available I may do it but because I've only got a little window of free time I'm not really wanting to "queue jump". Late July probably going to be the best time for me.

Yea I agree If you voted No because you didn't understand it, your an idiot. If you voted No simply because as very junior partner in a coalition government nick Clegg didn't do some of HIS election promises and your sulking, you are an idiot. If you made an informed decision and felt that FPTP is a beter system for whatever reason that's ok. I saw so much press from people clearly not understanding things I got really cross about it!

The full scenario is this, I am dropping a load of data from our MIS into Excel, manipulating it a little in excel then opening a mail merge document which will produce the notices I need. For this to happen automatically I need open the Word document which I am doing using Shell command to execute Word with the appropiate file name. So yes I could put in more IF's but I was looking for a cleaner way. In theory this would be by the macro searching the c:\drive for winword.exe and returning the full path to the exe Hope that makse sense.

I've logged a Change Request for some additional dates to appear in the "Cycle" field of the SIMS homepage panels. I'd quite like "Week to date" (i.e. the Monday to todays date) so that people can see a very instant and graphical representation of what's happening, especially with behaviour for the current week. Also usefull but not quite as important "Term to date". Thus I am now shamelessly pushing the issue. Is there a way to find and return the full path to a file on the PC? For example I want to find Word on my PC and have it return c:\program files\microsoft office\Office14\Winword.exe or at least the directory path. I can probably fudge it using some long winded IF statements and checking to see if the file exists but I was wondering for s slightly cleaner way.

How do I suppress this message. I've tried using "sendkeys" to send both Y and {RETURN} to OK the box automatically but neither worked (assuming I was doing it correctly). Can anyone help.
