Hello Looking for thoughts and opinions on wcbs schoolportal. Recent wcbs users here and looking to add a parent portal, any alternatives to think about? thanks

Hello, I was wondering if anyone else is using WCBS PASS. We are on Version 3.8.0.0 we have been in contact with WCBS support regarding this matter but unable to get it resolved. We are getting the following error message when most users are accessing the report builder Pass > Administration > Reports > Report Builder We have followed the WCBS supplied install instructions and WCBS even uninstalled the SQL native client and reinstalled to no joy. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Has anyone tried running PASS using a server farm to provide the DB? Specifically the financial side. Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about server farms other than the theory behind them, my small bit of research indicates that there could be latency issues as the database is replicated between servers. Whislt we are not that big I'm looking at my options if we wanted to run a single installation over multiple sites. Option B is running a VPN between the sites and then connecting that way but that means that if the internet goes down so does one site's acces to PASS. But then that causes issues with replication....

Hi all, The school I work at is currently seriously considering movement to WCBS Pass/3Sys for the academic and pastoral management. We are a small independent school in Switzerland, so some more normal UK options are not going to be suitable. Does anyone have any hints, tips or experiences they'd like to share. Especially when it comes from setting this up from scratch, without importing data from any existing MIS. Also any other ideas on successful implementation and daily use would be welcomed. Thanks

We are currently looking into online payments. We have looked at the "usual suspects" but I believe that WCBS are working with Card Save to integrate their product with PASS. Wondered if there is anyone using card save or if they are part of the trial with WCBS, and if you're able to offer any feedback on it? Thanks in advance

Hi to everyone at Edugeek. First post, long time lurker - thanks to all for this wonderful resource. I'm having a very frustrating problem with some users of the PASS MIS system. Immediately after a successful log in to PASS it closes. No error messages, no logs, netmon shows nothing special (just closed tcp sessions). The problem is only occuring on Win7 workstations, for whatever reason I am unable to replicate it on XP SP3. Our PASS environment on the server is the following: PASS Application installed on a W2K8 R2 Standard virtual server SQL 2008 R2 installed on a W2K8 R2 Standard virtual server Server does not run to capacity on drive space, processor or memory Our PASS environment on the client is the following: Windows 7 some clients have SQL Tools 2005 installed, some clients have SQL Tools 2008 installed XP SP3 all clients on this platform run with SQL Tools 2005 installed Simple shortcut on desktop to PASS2.exe on PASS application server I originally believed this to be a network issue but now users spread throughout both campuses are experiencing this issue. One that is completely on fibre. The networking issue (if it is this) could be on the server side but as there are 7 other virtuals I would expect to see problems ocurring on other servers, with other applications or something in the event logs. There is nothing that points to a problem. Any help would be much appreciated as this is quickly becoming (has become actually) a business critical issue. Many thanks, William P

We're a small independent and looking into WCBS Pass. Information Management for Schools from WCBS Are there any other independents out there using it? Which modules do you have? We'd like comment on usibility, particularly in relation to fees... is it stand alone or is there a web version? Ta

Does anyone else use pass? Do you have any issues with it? Do you have any Doncaster views that could be useful for us to use? Like returning an exam results broadsheet with all boards on like sims does.

Anyone got an idea how I can open two copies of the program at once on one PC? It's proving resistant to that idea... (We are creating a new school and thus need copy info from the old school into the new, a lot easier if you can open 2 side by side. I can't use another PC as we are out of licences and this is not a long term thing).

Hi there! In light of GDPR I am trying to map out who has access to what on 3Sys...no easy task, as the user rights on PASS, the 3Sys Profile, Field Access and Page Layout rights all apply. In my opinion it's a complete mess, with no clear way to easily determine what users can see. According to WCBS there are no tables in which field access data is held in the database, and they have not produced any reports to make this easier. They have said I should launch an enhancement request, but we all know what happens with those... Has anyone tried to accomplish this feat? Any tips? Many thanks!

Has anyone used a MS TMG 2010 server to publish a 3Sys server (website) to the Internet? Any tips will be welcome.

Hi there, our school wants to review whether the current MIS still fits the schools needs and whether or not they need to start looking at alternatives. We currently use WCBS for both the MIS and finance bit. So before I get asked to contact some vendors, can you please let me know what MIS you use, whether or not you would recommend it and if so/not, why. Many thanks

Has anyone reported on User Defined fields within PASS before? I've created the field and can see it in Pupil records, but it isn't coming up in Report Builder. I've left it over night, removed the table and readded it and still nothing. Not sure if I am meant to run a process to update the view, seems feasible but can't find anything. Support havent got back to me yet but I was wondering if anyone here has done it before? Ta

Does anyone here have experience importing timetable into WCBS PASS? The set codes created on import do not tally with the set codes exported from Timetabler and once imported cannot be edited. I thought there might be some sort of matching process but apparently not. I've used SIMS / NOVA in the past and for all it's faults this process was so much simpler! Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys, Just wondered if there was anyone who may have had the same issue as me with WCBS PASS whilst running reports. Basically we have installed PASS this year, after months of agro, and constantly slow performance, I have moved PASS to a new server (4 x Quad Cores, 12GB RAM, 15k SAS drives, Server 2008R2, SQL 2008 Full Edition), but the same issue persists, when I run a report it can take between 1 minute and 6 seconds and 3 Minutes 16 Seconds to display a report for a relativley small bunch of students, on SIMS this would take seconds. I have run a trace on the SQL server and run several index tuning tasks, there is still no difference. When running a trace the SQL transactions seem to come through in small, slow bursts from the main application, which i find concerning. It is also worth noting that if you click on the application during the report building process the application will freeze and crash. (On both the old installation and the new installation) Any thoughts?
