You also need to go into Device Manager, Network Card, Power Management and untick the box that says "Only magic packets can wake this PC up". Either that or WOL your whole network then shut it all down. Which is silly.

The only "problem" I found was that I need to run the shutdown command twice for my Win7 machines as I've got an agressive power saving policy that puts them to sleep so the first shutdown actually wakes the computer up, the second shuts it down.

Personally I go for a batch files run from the server to shutdown the remote machine. (actually it's about 8 so I can shut down different blocks at different times)

The part where she is being interviewed by the host of the beauty pagent and when asked "what does she want most in the world" replies saying she wants a robust and firm policing strategy (or something) and when the audience and host look blankly at her tags "And World Peace" on the end as the stock response.

And now some general rambling that I am getting off my chest. Talking tonight we think that there a lot of people feel entitled to stuff. A lot of reality shows offer a quick shortcut to fame and money, people see that an then get frustrated and feel they are owed. they want the £500 smart phone and the huge LED tv but don't feel they should have to work for it. There also seems to be a lack of work ethic. I refuse to believe there are no job prospects, just jobs people are not prepared to do because they feel it's "beneath" them. They want to start on the big money and that's not how it works. My sister in law lives reasonably comfortably. Both her and her husband left school after a-levels and got rubbish jobs, lived in a small house and worked their way to where they are now. I sometimes feel that ethic seems to have got lost. I accept that a lot of that was generalisation and probably not true for the majority of society but I felt a need to get it off my chest. [/drivel]

Have just seen a local complaining about "police heavy-handedness" in the incidents in Leeds just after an article in the main news about people complainig the police were too lienient. This goes a long way to explain the difficulty for police chiefs and the government. In other news I suspect what we really need is a spell of bad weather. I can't imagine a lot of the yoofs being out in 10 degree wind and rain

I'm not sure where I stand on replying the army.. On the one hand it's more bodies and a force trained to fight. However their training is different with a different objective in mind and it starts on a slippery slope towards the government enforcing things with the military and may lead to an escalation of the issue. Difficult decisiOn, glad I'm not in government.

It's very easy to assing blame. Really the only blame should be assigned to the people doing the rioting and looting! Yes things could be done better by governments but it's very easy to look back and say that x made mistakes. I have my own thought on government in general but to me the biggest issues is with society. In general far too many people have the attitude "what can ssociety do for me" instead of "what can I do for society". I was brought up to understand that if you want something you work for it. Everything I have I worked for and there is loads of things I want but I know that I will need to work to get them. I hope I raise my child the same way. /RamblingThoughts P.s. The whole thing makes me massively angry. I've seen quite a bit of the news and stuff on the Internet. I don't think we will know what happend to mark duggan until the results of the IPPC investigation is released. And even then some people will believe it's a police cover up. Everything else is just speculation. Other things that made ms angry were: Someone on the news saying the police look down on you and stop and search you for no reason. Because rioting/looting will improve relations... Or you could take the moral high ground be helpful get it over with as quickly as possible and be on your way. The reverend on the news on Sunday who said that he was with the peaceful protest for five hours and the police weren't giving them answers. Well the investigation takes time... Do you want them to do it properly? Lastly the Buffoon who commented on a news story on some website who said that "when it happened in middle east contries we called them noble freedom fighters, here we call them thugs and vandals". Missing all the points I think. I half joked with my brother that we need to arm the police with tranquilliser guns (or release tribes of amazon pigmies) either that or fill a warehouse with trainers and tracksuits and when looters go in the metal bars on the doors come down mousetrap style. In short there is no excuse. Mindless behaviour from idiots who only think of themselves. I whist they were going to get harsher punishment than I fear they will.

Personally I alswys by new. As has been mentioned the tyres are the only part of your car that actually touches the road so are very importaant. I would never feel quite comfortable with part warns as you couldn't be sure of the quality. And surely you'd have to replace them soomer so are you really making a saving? the I do tend to use Camskill. Just had a look and the the tyres I bought earlier this year and at current prices, including delivery I would have saved £90 over E-tyres. Though I would have had to pay to have them put on, tracked and ballanced that didn't cost me £90!

I'm currently doing some cover work at a site and they have RAnger installed, having never used the thing and finding a ,achine without the client installed it leads me to the slightly noobish question of... How do I go about installing the client?

Just a random question, what's the maximum time discrepancy between a Server and PC before Windows starts complaining that it can't sync up and correct the clients time and gets a bit wobbly about logging on to the domain.

the OS is XP SP3

I've just created a new user and I'm getting a the Windows Files security warning box when I try and open an exe file from the network on their machine. What's making it wierd and frustrating is that if I log onto the same machine as my template user with the Same GP's and a member of the same security groups I DON'T get the warning message. I've deleted their local profile and let it re-create but the problem persists. Help! Oh it's only on the network .exe, all the other programs work with no problems.

You can ofcourse use FSRM to do the job on the servers (usefull as it will then E-mail you to tell you who is attempting to do what). Apart from that another vote here for using USBDLM and windows group policy.
