  1. When looking at the Comment bank in profiles the order of the subjects is a bit random. We think it's the order they were created rather than, for example, alphabetical order. Is there a way to change the order? Basically one of he heads of department keeps putting the comment against the wron subject be because there are about 4 different varients of subject and the first one is not the one the most of the pupils are doing.
  2. I'm new to the virtualisastion setup but I've managed to get my installation of ESXi 5 running, some servers installed and in general it all looks OK. However I am wondering how I go about backing up the VM's as a whole (i.e. in case of serious hardware failure) As I've only got a single Virtualised server at the minute I'm not using vCentre. But what I want to be able to do is schedule a snapshot of the PC then copy the files onto a NAS so if there is a major issue I can get the machines back much quicker. Is there an easy way to accomplish this?
  3. Been loging off and back in, as it's user policties a reboot shouldn't be necessary. Plus I was using a very obvious check to make sure it was applying properly (switching the "help" link off and on). Very frustrating.
  4. Best not to put anything requiring a unique identifier in the image, Solus3 being one example. Additionally from personal experience I won't be putting SIMS on my image at all. It's never automatically updated SIMS on a workstation where I've ive had SIMS and installed the agent. I have had to redeploy the update to get it to work. Works fine if there's nothing, drop the agent on and Boom! SIMS!

    Group Policy.

On a Windows 7 client using 2008R2 servers I am trying to enable the ability to right click on the start menu and get the context menu as I've disabled it want want to enable it for some users. The policy I am apply to users to enable some additional thinks works fine. I can make changes and watch them apply. When I disable the setting Users ==> Policies ==> admin Templates ==> Start memu and task bar ==> Remove drag and drop and context menus from the start menu Nothing happens, i.e. I can't right click. Thinking that for some windows reason this setting might not be the right one I created antother policy on a test user and just enabled and disabled this setting as I did the ability to right click came and went exactly as expected. So any ideas why? I assume that something else must be disabling the context menu but I can't see anything that would that relates to the start menu...
  6. @Chris_cook Yes I did do that but then it didn't seem to be enforcing. Then when I tried again it was. Odd.. but it seems to be OK. Cheers though.
  7. Just had a quick talk with our DH and pointed out what you can do with the home page (He's new and hasn't used SIMS). His response was... "That's good and it shows what they need, perhaps our Housemasters need some training on it" Had to resist the facct they had already had 2 INSETS and most of them had some 1 on 1 help as well. *sigh" Still, result with the Deputy Head, which is a good thing.
  8. Don't go there.. Just dont. Come work here and you'll see how hard it is to convince people Apparently looking at two/three graphs is tricky... What they want is a single page report that will include all the details of yesterdays behaviour and achievements and possibly absenteeism for their house for "yesterday". Might look into report scheduling...
  9. I've just been asked to find some ways of making the information in SIMS more accessable (i.e. for those who find looking at home panel graphs too complicated). Is there a way to run a report off where I have filtered the date of the events to "yesterday"? When I look at the options I only seems to be able to specifiy specific dates or date ranges, this is a problem for the hard of clicking. Any suggestions?
  10. I've found the booking types and sorted that. Couldn't get rid of internal and external so just renamed them. It does say how to enforce a maximum duration but I can't seem to make it work. Getting rid of repeat booking for non admins would be usefull. Any idead if it's possible to put the persnons's username as the default description?
  11. After finally managing to dedicate some time to looking at room booking software I've managed to install a MRBS but I have a copule of config questions. According to the help/faq I can deisgn and customise the list of booking types. Where do I do this? I couldn't find anywhere to define this? How do I enforce the "max duration of two periods" for any booking? I can't seem to get it to work. Is there a way to remove the ability to create repaeat booking from non-admin users. (I have limited them to only 1 week i in advance which kind of stops it but I wondered if there were any other suggestions) Has anyone done anything funky such as add in fake periods to count as "lunch" etc to help the hard of thinking who can only work out when lessons are in relation to the breaks? Was it workth it or more trouble than it's worth? The first two are the more pressing of my questions.
  12. Vik, Cheers I kind of figured that was the answer. I've already got/ attempted to train them to use the home panels but some people don't think thats enough. Most people are struggling to let go of paper systems, so when the piece of paper arrives its like their notification, doesn't matter thy sims is "instant" *sigh* Maybe it's about them being told something verses noticing information. Who knows...
  13. I've just been asked about using the messaging system in SIMS, mostly for behaviour stuff. IS there a way to automate things so that when a Behaviour incident is issue a message is automatically sent out to the pupils Housemater (or ) is automatially sent an alert? Do I have to have inTouch (which I don't have)
  14. Cool. I'lll have a quick look this afternoon, got to do some other work first rather than haveing fun with Excel
  15. I'm just looking at a spreadsheet for our personnel department and after having heard a quick grumble from another member of staff want to make it a bit easier for the end user. It's a timesheet where the user fills in when they are in, off ill and so on (Image attached). To minimise the work of the end user I want to have them fill in the Off/Sick etc then have a button that looks at all the cells in the range and fills in the "I" in any cell that doesn't contain a value already. if possible I would also only like it to put values in cells where there is a member of staff and an actual day (i.e Febuary will only go up to the 28th and whilst my spreadsheet will automatically remove the 29/30/31 if if you set the month to "2" I don't want "I"'s what will be columns AD-AF Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
  16. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. You can redeploy the update when the machines are on, souls will then skip those machines already upgraded.
  17. I wore this T-shirt last Mufti Day (wear casual clothes) JJonas might want a look at the site Firebox.com are good as well...
  18. Done it loads. Have a look on supportnet for the SIMS advanced reporting guide and it tells you how to create your own. the process is rougly: Find the SIMS excel template (Reportdata.xls, usually in a folder call "tempSimsRpt" in your home area). Copy it somewhere normal. Open a new excel workbook and set up your macro. Copy the macro into your copy of the reportdata.xls (the advanced reporting guide will explain where to stick it) Attach this new file as a custom template in SIMS. Run report. Personally I have found the fact I can't (at current) use xlsx files as templates to be frustrating. So personally I create a custom template for each report I and to produce in this way that copies all the data I've generated, opens an xlsx/xlsm file on the network and then pastes the data in. The file on the network then does all the work. It also make changing the thing easier as I don't nee to re-attach the template to the report every time I alter something.
  19. Surely it is worth it for you? Costs you the price of a call to your insurance company, all the work done at their cost and no claims? If your insurance company gets all the money from the other side, no downside to you.
  20. Interesting... What process is undertaken to password the PDF? Ie is it all done manually or does your payroll system allow for the creation of passworded PDF's?
  21. Ive just been asked what sort of issues may be involved in the use of electronic pay slips. Specifically e-mailing them to people. The initial test group would be the admin staff (all of whom have an email address at work) and whilst I've found some stuff on the Internet I was wondering what people here thought. What technical or legal issues are likely to crop up. Outside of "I don't have an email address" what sort of arguments are likely to be raised that we would need to be carefully of? Cheers in advance.
  22. Hmm, might see if I can re-try the agent install on the server when i come back in January then.
  23. Yes, me this morning. Solus3 updated fine, wont upgrade SIMS to autumn release. Got a support call in and waiting for an answer. Falls over trying to upgrade the database. Then tells me the DB is offline (or at least the agent part is offline. SIMS works on the Summer release and I've restarted the agent service on the server. Not happy at the mo, wanted it done before i went on holiday!
  24. Nope. Product called MDeamon. Does most of the same things without some of the Exchange headaches and the BES/BIS is built in (if you install that version), which is nice.
  25. Yep, it's a massively usefull tool and the web version there is not a lot of misuse they can do. I can always log or copy message from problem students (over and above the mornal logging) plus carefull monitoring of zip files or other such things keeps the problems down. I'm mostly concernerd about the misuse from impersonating another user. If they know another users password then that's not really something I can fully prevent.
