Papercut is brilliant and not really very expensive when bundled in with the MFD fleet (and if you implement some rules for general daily printing e.g. forcing 2 sided and forcing mono - it pays for itself easily within it's 3 or 5 year MFD fleet lease). I can't imagine life without it to be honest MFDs here are fit and forget we literally have to do nothing on a daily basis other than paper and the odd toner. Helps that the Ricoh MFDs are ultra reliable of course.

Two schools in my LEA are trying to run Esports courses this year and so far have not been able to due to LEA Filteirng Firewalling etc etc. It's pretty pathetic really that the LEA are holding back Teaching and Learning in these schools.

TBH chromebooks work best if your allready using google for education, classroom, drive etc as then everything is at your fingertips. It works really well in that scenario - so well we've gone 1:1 for staff and pupils. Staff do however still have PCs as really you can't use a chromebook to replace a pc. We use them as an "access most things from anywhere" which works really well.

Cheers giving this a go today. Going to use a separate exam AD account so I can pre-log the pcs in in the morning of the exam. One Q - I've downloaded the client installer - I assume I need to install this onto a sacrificial PC in order to get the actual client files to copy to the server share? Or did you just install the client actually on the server? Wish me luck!

If it's openreach box then probably don't touch it with a barge pole as they're very finnicky. They extended mine from one side of the school to the other for free just because I asked and explained nicely why the fibre and switches needed to be in the server room rather than the main office.

To be honest I wouldn't waste your sons money on a £500 card - the 1030 is absolute garbage compared to modern cards, so literally anything you buy for even £100 will be MUCH MUCH better. Spend £200-300 on a decent card and your son will be happy as larry I recon!

If it's a speed limit encased in a red circle then it is a legal limit no matter if it's a physical sign or a bunch of LEDs on a gantry. If there are no 50 red circle signs at all in the area, led or physical then the speed limit would be national speed limit 70 for a car. If it's in a yellow triangle or anything else then it's not a legal speed limit just a suggestion.

Given the half arsed attempts at previous pupil devices from MS, I think I'll stuck with my already proven Chromebooks. We already unlocked our schools potential when we started using google for education back in 2014.

From a technical point of view it will work on almost any display as it is simply software on the PC which can be controlled either by mouse or keyboard or in this case by a touch screen. The licencing is the issue as when you remove your promethean boards you also remove your entitlement to use activinspire in that classroom. You may be able to buy activinspire licences for use with each third party board separately and then you would be legally compliant.

Using free here - you can get away with free for most things.

Two things you are going to struggle with. 1. filtering and firewalling - schools in my LEA have been waiting a year to get ports etc unblocked and are still not able to run the course. 2. Installing / File Permissions / Shared accounts - gonna take a fair bit of fiddling to get most games working on domain PCs.

I would reccomend having your actual veeam server as the server you have lots of 4+ tb drives in. Max backup speed. Then you can offload the copy job to various other places if needed. I offload 3tb to a Synology DS 2412 in a few hours in the evenings. 48 hours there's something wrong somewhere.

It's either IP addresses or ports being blocked (or both?) you should be able to see the ports being used by the san's in the setup pages?

I'd use HDD for Veeam storage - SSD's is a bit of a waste of money and will deteriorate due to constant writing - you don't need that extra read-write speed or access speed - my full backups are done in 2 hours with 12 x spinning 7200 rust drives in Raid6.

I've had a look at a couple of different ones over the years and never found any of them to be as good as impero overall to be honest.

Do you have access to ipads? Lumafusion is brilliant and super easy to use. Luckily have finally got Adobe creative cloud here and the basic and advanced version of Premier does the job.

Yep got classcharts here and still using silly codes they forget in 10 seconds, rather than their own google accounts that every single pupil know, has and uses on a daily basis.

You get much, MUCH better value if you go manufacturer refurbished from any of the used/second hand suppliers. I got a spanking 2 year old Dell Poweredge 740XD chock full of SSDs and ram and CPUs for around that budget. Multimillion dollar corporations are like SOOOO wasteful that if your not taking advantage of their stupidity, then your not living life properly!

I'll be totally honest - if you are going to be doing it alot, which I guess you are now you've returned from edugeek then go proper motorhome or go bust. The small - medium vans like VW and Transit or smaller are just day vans really - any attempt to use for long periods or regularly will no doubt become frustrating and unenjoyable. The large vans like the jumbo transits long high top sprinters are better but at the end of the day they are still too small and a compromise - and often no cheaper than the proper motorhomes which are not much bigger and have everything you need to go away, and stay away. The larger and more luxurious you get the more chance of you actually enjoying it and using it frequently. Most of the "small van" people I know literally don't hardly go away any more once the initial couple of months of excitement are over - the realism sets in, the lack of space, the lack of toilet and shower, etc. Personally for me having gone through all the same throughts as you - my favourite is an older Hymer. I may or may not get one on a couple of years instead of my old caravan. Large, excellent use of space, great layout, everything you need for on and off grid, and a similar price to a second hand unconverted VW Transporter.

I mean - it's banned for most secondary's as far as I am aware so would you expect to have a website that's banned for 11-18 year olds but allowed for 3-10 year olds? Probably not.
