USB cables longer than 4m may cause an issue, generally touch displays, because of the power demands of the touch surround, can be fussy over longer cable lengths and active extenders usually resolve the issue. That said it could be a fault, so best contact Medium UK to resolve if you haven't done so already.

Basically comes down to three choices. Replace with more Smartnoards, interactive projectors or interactive flat panel display. On top of the hardware decision you then decide do you stick with notebook, or look for alternatives. Choice between the interactive projector or iFPD is principally cost vs longevity, the iFPD will lower cost overall with reduced power consumption and very long backlight life. Also with interactive projectors, lose the pen and face expensive replacement. For software you can buy notebook licences separately at a cost. Alternatives, Easiteach is very comprehensive and can open notebook files directly. Its layout takes some getting used too. The common file format *.iwb will in theory convert and open files, but often fails to work properly at all, so I would ignore that. Open Sankore is fine, just another alternative. Asvwith any purchasing decision try and get on site demonstrations so you can make informed decisions.

The weight shouldn't be an issue, your reseller will be able to advise on the various ways they can be fitted. Like any purchasing decision look at the alternatives, test them yourself, most displays can be left on site for short trials ( if they can't then don't bother with that brand) check the warranties, software, size options and of course costs. The Smart 6065 is a bit of an oddity. Offers 4K resolution, future proofed, but do you need that for education right now, probably not. Also very limited on connections, only a single HDMI input. Therefore any VGA based pc's need additional boxes to connect up. CTouch, Clevertouch, Smart are the top 3 brands, CTouch with the widest range of sizes. Smart with the least. Check them all out before buying!

This will be a setting in ActiveInspire. Go to file/settings/dual mode activeboards. Change setting to use touch instead of pen, that ought to sort it!

I looked at this in the past and couldn't really find any acceptable solutions. You really need it built into the panel. Maybe the panel manufacturer will have an upgrade option in the future, though I know it does change the design of the graphic decoder board. Some displays offer freeze frame as standard, notably the market leaders CTOUCH and Clevertouch.

I know Clevertouch have added this feature to one in their range. Not sure about BenQ having across all the range, they tend to lag in their screen developments. In general though screens that have this feature are better prepared for the future than ones that don't.

To my knowledge only the CTOUCH has this feature throughout its entire range of displays, which to a large extent are 10 point touch too.

The E70 is definitely EOL. The factory stopped making them months ago, Smart ended up with a lot of stock to sell, hence the price drops. It looks like the 6065 will be sold alongside it for a while. 4K resolution and attractive price. Did hear though that it doesn't have VGA input. Fine if you have HDMI but could be tricky if you don't. Only 4 point touch too. As for market leaders, pm me I have the lowdown on that if anyone is interested..

There are a number of interactive large format displays you can choose from. Clevertouch, CTOUCH, iboardtouch and Philips to name but a few. The old adage, you get what you pay for holds true. To my knowledge the top three brands are Clevertouch CTOUCH and Smart (though limited to a single model - I guess the software holds sway ) I would recommend you try all three, then decide...

Smart announced today that the E70 is discontinued. New panels on the way. I always thought this panel was a bit of a 'rush job' by Smart, not up to their usual standards. Maybe some bargain prices in the summer, a lot of stock to clear I believe

Have you considered looking at large format touchscreens? They are fast replacing the dated whiteboard technology in schools..

Capacitive touch screens will give you the best touch experience of any technology, but screens tend to be pricey, and you have to use finger or special touch pen (cheap enough though for tablets!) Optical camera tends to be the next best option as used by Smart and CTOUCH. With InfraRed its a bit of a mixed bunch, depending on which Chinese factory is making the surround, some are better than others. Bear in mind too, that the smoothness of the glass is also influential, anti-glare is almost essential for a good touch experience, plus the obvious factor of cutting down reflections from lights and windows.

Perhaps take a look at the CTOUCH screens. They use optical touch technology and have very fast and accurate touch response - CTOUCH Smart Innovation!

Take a look at Smoothboard Air. Inexpensive and will stream to up to 40 tablets simultaneously. No need for apps on the tablets it's browser based. Smoothboard Air - Collaborative Interactive Whiteboard for iPads and Android Tablets

I have seen condensation on screens on more than one occasion, it seems to be related to weather! In my experience it dissipates naturally, but might take a couple of days. Never know it to blow a screen up (yet!)

Having worked with touchscreens for a fair while now, all of the above suggestions have some merit. Definitely check out the resolution, for dual screen operation most laptops will happily work at 1366 x 768. To get full HD then almost certainly you will have to output only to the screen, which most teachers don't like. Some Windows software on Win 7 or 8 can offer very smooth writing, search for Windows Journal, the screen if its any good, it should write very well. The software you are using could be poor, even Activinspire doesn't write too well, Smart Notebook does better. The Genee is at the budget end of touchscreen solutions so it uses cheaper touch components, therefore it's touch response isn't as good as some others, nevertheless is much better than a projector/whiteboard option. The Ctouch screens have anti-glare glass, 4 point touch and freeze frame as standard. Anti glare makes for such a better viewing experience over clear glass, plus smoother touch. Priced competitively too.

Have you tried it with a shorter USB cable? Interactive Whiteboards are notoriously fickle with USB cables, long ones (thick or thin) can cause issues. If cable runs are over 5m then you should always use a powered extender (lindy ones are good)

The BenQ screen is being distributed by the same company who manages Smartboards. It is their response to the growing threat of touchscreens. The touch surround in the screen is manufactured by a company who Smart own. Hence the software will work, but is not recognised as a native Smartboard. There are plenty of other touchscreens now available, so maybe consider the CTOUCH or Clevertouch who are far less restrictive in their approach to what software is used.

Quite honestly at that price I would be suspicious, this is way below cost. Maybe they were end of life LCD panels? More typical pricing is around the 2.5 to 3K mark

Samsung E board is one of many large format touchscreens on the market, which are starting to replace interactive whiteboards in fairly large numbers now. Using with Smart software will very much depend on which version you are using currently, the newer versions of Notebook can only be used with a purchased licence otherwise you can get a watermark on the screen. However there are many alternatives to Notebook available, for example you now get annotation tools in MS Word. Height adjust is possible with appropriate stands. Most large format touchscreens are very robust, using toughened glass. You may do well to look at the more popular brands for touchscreen, the Clevertouch and CTOUCH. These are priced more competitively, offer good software, and the CTOUCH is genuinely multi-touch to replicate the user experience of a tablet. Your AV supplier should be able to give you pricing and the opportunity for an on-site demonstration.

I don't know if interactive LCD/LED screens have reached the states yet? They are becoming increasingly popular in UK Classrooms and are very well suited for a mobile system, since all the issues around the projector (e.g. low height, body shadow, orientation, dim displays) are eliminated. A mobile interactive 46" LCD on a height adjustable trolley would be about £2000, maybe something to consider if available

You also need to consider the throw ratio of the replacement projector. Unless it is similar to the Hitachi unit or it has a digital zoom capability (like the Casio laser projectors) then you risk having an image on your whiteboard/screen/wall either too small or too large.
