I'm using a Linksys AC1900. It works great with my 74MB fibre, still gets updates, and is OpenWRT compatible for when it doesn't. VLAN compatible (including VLAN tagging), QOS compatible, supports a guest network (if that's your thing, which it shouldn't be ) and it can broadcast its 2.4GHz and 5GHz separately (but still routes between them). I have zero complaints and would happily recommend it, but there's probably a newer model since I bought mine.

I admit I figured out elemental resistance and micromanaging GF abilities quite easily, but it took me a while to clock on to Status magic. But once you figured out how to junction Drain, Death or Blind to your attacks.... Why the GF's were defaulted to always prioritise SUM-MAG X% is beyond me, though. Play the Junction system right and you never have to summon a GF at all. Exceptions can be made for maybe Shiva during the Ifrit fight, because it makes it significantly easier. And Carbuncle. Because he makes Edea 1 nuke herself

Literally the only person ever that's admitted to liking both Personally I wasn't fond of the 7, especially the Materia system. The Junction system was much better, I thought, though if and only if you could stomach the grind to stock up spells, which apparently youngling Gara could. But I appreciate why it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I mean, you say that, but didn't Octopath Traveller do insanely well? Clearly there's still a demand for the old Final Fantasy-esque games with ATB systems.

There are actually laws about what bits of animals you are and aren't allowed to use. I don't know about eyelids especially but I'm fairly certain eyeballs aren't allowed. And speaking of, reproductive organs and digestive tracts are also a no-go. A large percentage of food will simply just be water and other bulkers. Let's not forget that the inside of a pork pie is solid, the inside of your typical meat pie isn't. And the percentages are reported as an overall whole. So that also includes the pastry etc.

Doesn't seem to be doing anything for me.. I've tried both pointing the logon GPO directly at the script, and also using WSCRIPT.EXE with parameters \\...\netlogon\flickerstartmenu.vbs, neither works, first manual open is always grey. Also sorry for necrobump Still, seems like a bit of a kludge.. Is there no other way to ditch Cortana/SearchUI that doesn't trigger this? Any way to strip it from the .wim, for example?

You're not running any scripts, you're just modifying a file with a text editor. The ExamWritePad.exe looks for an ExamWritePad.exe.config in the same folder - you simply modify that file. There's no installer, the software is portable, you just copy all the files to the required computer (or make the files accessible from a network share, if your exam machines are networked) including your pre-configured .config file. The idea is that you modify the config file once (for example on your own computer), providing details such as centre number, save paths, etcetera, then you copy the files including your modified .config file to the exam computer(s). You can't feasibly expect a ready-of-the-box piece of software when you consider that schools will always have their own variations on how they do it. This is probably the closest you'll get, and really only requires about ten minutes of your effort to change the config files.

Happy to help @ass17 You've saved me more than enough headache with this software, only fair to return the favour. If I had any gripes about saving, it's that it isn't mandatory. We've had situations (thankfully only in mocks, by kids whom I suspect are not exactly what I'd call 'highly aspirational') where I suspect the save prompt has popped up and they've clicked 'no'. Thankfully there's another save prompt on exit, and we tell them not to exit the software, so it's been manageable so far. Some kind wouldn't go amiss

The files automatically save as time goes on. You just need to supply a path for them to save to in the config file. In my experience testing it, when the autosave timer trips, if they have yet to save the file, they are also prompted to save there-and-then. The config file also contains this parameter: 0 Which I have not tested, but I assume would prompt to save as soon as the candidate fills out their details. If you were given the software and only an hour's notice to get it working, I appreciate that's not a whole lot of time, and I know first-hand how frustrating that can be, but your issue is with whoever decided to leave it until the last minute and only give you an hour. The config file gives you a lot of control over how the software works as different schools will do things in different ways. You just need some time to configure it.

You can control the default save location by modifying the ExamWritePad.exe.config file provided. Edit: Also shouldn't the kids should be filling in the details themselves, just as they would normally write their own name on their exam paper etc?

That's actually pretty clever, but what happens if there's an issue that causes the laptop to power down? Though, I suppose you can just copy the file to the new directory..

I do tend to earmark specific machines for specific users for the duration of exams season, just in case I forget to delete the script, but since I print it off and it gets submitted along with all the written papers, it doesn't matter if they make any edits after-the-fact because we don't take or send another copy. Does it matter? Probably. I'd imagine there's some fringe scenario where they have a Chemistry paper followed by a Biology paper and you could possibly have a bit of an overlap in data. Same for English Reading and then Writing.

If you want to hands-off and script stuff, you're either looking at networking the machines and have them write to a network share, and either script permission changes or disable/enable the account. Realistically we want them as locked-down as possible, so all wireless networking (wlan, bluetooth, wwan) are disabled and we go in with a USB stick at the end of each exam. It's a bit of a pain, sometimes, especially when there's a really big exam and a lot of concessions, but overall I think it's the better solution than to open up potential holes with leaving WLAN enabled (e.g. mobile phone hotspots)

Nope and nope. It's literally just those entries previously mentioned. Weirdly, if I watch the live feed and filter by category ('cctld'), all I get is .io, .ru etc coming up. Nothing that looks like it shouldn't be blocked based on the rule.

Have you updated/changed what version of Visual C++ you've used? Updating our exam laptops in prep and getting The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. which is apparently something to do with C libraries being outdated? The last version we loaded was 2.3.0.0

We started doing this a while back thanks to the massive amounts of phishing emails pointing at xyz domains etc. Currently our list reads: xyz ru host mobi io su No dots, no asterisks, nothing else, just those strings exactly, in the Domain/URL filtering block However one of our users has had an issue downloading a file from their dropbox and Smoothwall is telling me that it's the blocked gTLD's/ccTLD's rule that's blocking it.. Except the blocked URL is https://[random].dl.dropboxusercontent.com/cd/0/get/Ad-[rand]-[rand]-[rand]-[rand]/file Matched: Custom blocked content, Core Blocked Content, Blocked gTLDs and ccTLDs Action: Block Except I've checked the 'Custom blocked content' list and dropboxusercontent.com is not in there, and the full URL doesn't match anything in URL patterns block either. Seeing the same with other sites that don't match the pattern too.. https://static.hotjar.com/c/hotjar-266940.js? (sv = 5) Which I don't really care about it blocking hotjar, it still says one of the rules it's blocking it on is the blocked gTLD's rule Matched: Blocked gTLDs and ccTLDs, Custom blocked content, Core Blocked Content Action: Block So it seems something is going awry with the rule.. Have I just formatted something wrong, oor..?

I would have thought that chromebooks would be intrinsically incompatible with the concept of a locked-down, non-networked examinations device?
