The library is still going to have the same number of entries/take up the same amount of physical space/etc regardless of how it is sorted. You sort things to make them easier to locate, not to achieve a pleasing equal distribution Why, when we already have appropriate sorting methods, must we then water down those rules even further arbitrarily? It makes no sense to me that 'Sorted in Alphabetical Order' should actually mean 'Alphabetical Order, except where it starts with The, A, or YRE' Besides, if you stick all the 'The's together and it's incredibly easy to skim over the first word to carry on the alphabetical sorting. I find that when you space all the 'The's out in the rest of the library, it breaks the flow as you're skimming through it and makes it take longer. And Rest of the Title, The is an even more stupid way of cataloguing things

Oooooh I predict a riot mildly emphatic debate. Personally I think that's the way it should be done. E.g. the title isn't "Neverending Story", it's "The Neverending Story" Same goes for A etc. Edit: (Well, if you want to be really pedantic it's Die unendliche Geschichte, but shh!)

Late to watch it, and even later to post about it, but I finally caught Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Sunday. Absolutely fantastic. Really captured the feeling of when I was a little boy reading comic books, the story was well-written and compelling, and they played the multiverse angle pretty well, and the characters had more depth to them (eg. rather than being evil for evil's sake) than I was initially expecting. Not entirely sure why they needed to include Spider-Ham.. Comic relief, I guess? But the film would have been fine without him. Loved the opening throwback to the Tobey Maguire movies though! Overall, definitely worth a watch, and finishes with an ending that leaves open the chance of a sequel but isn't too much of a cliffhanger (though does kind of fall apart if you think about it too much)

Personally, we don't do any sort of active monitoring at all. Staff have NetSupport that connects to all the machines in their room. We don't monitor the kids or the staff. Classroom management is their job, not ours. If a member of staff spots a kid of games etc, they can email me and say "Joe Bloggs, year 10, was on games at around 10:30, can you pull his web history and block it?" If a member of staff is accused of being on something inappropriate, we can pull their Smoothwall logs too. Every week I pull of a few reports from Smoothwall, what sites have been accessed the most, what search terms, etc, and follow up anything that looks a bit suspish. Smoothwall also emails reports to the CPO for her to check up on, and every once in a blue moon she'll come and ask us to investigate something. As for how do we log checking people's cloud files etc? Again, we don't. We just have an understanding that we won't go snooping for no reason and that they shouldn't store anything inappropriate in the first place, and a policy in place that says so.

There's no web interface that I know of, certainly not one myself or the IT Manager have been shown, and the Kitchen staff don't know anything about iDstore as they only deal with IMPACT. We don't do any 2FA stuff here. I'd like to link staff Windows logons to access tokens, but we use RFID keyfobs rather than the typical swipe-card 2FA keyboards are usually built to utilise. Staff and pupils can enable 2FA on their G Suite accounts if they want to, but it's not mandated.

I appreciate what you're saying, I get it, and I've had staff before say "My password is X", but it boils down to needing to educate and enforce more rigorous error reporting. Screenshots for example. Windows' built in Problem Steps Recorder can be really good for it too. I operate the same way @localzuk does. If I need to specifically be on their session, I ask them to login for me. If they're not around, it waits. I find most things can be fixed either at the PC level (so it effects all users and I test it with my test accounts) or remotely (it's a file issue, for example, and I can access their user areas via the file server) Edit: Anyway, to answer your original request, as an admin you should have a way to access anything on your network/domain/etc, and then it's down to principle and policy saying you don't access it unless you need to. A member of staff still has a reasonable expectation that you won't go trawling through their files and/or emails just 'cause you're bored (not that I'm trying to insinuate that you do). So if a member of staff has something they don't want you accessing, fine, 'cause you're not accessing it anyway. You have better things to do. They should be presented with this information and agree to it as part of an AUP.

With Office365 you can (effectively) impersonate a user and access their OneDrive and their e-mails from your admin account. There should never be a reason that you access their actual account unless you're seizing it. As for unlocking computers, why would you need to if everything is stored in the cloud?

I have next to no knowledge of SQL and I have no idea how I'd even go about getting this information.. So we use Cunninghams iDstore and IMPACT for our cashless. Apparently since Cunninghams came in to do the upgrade, the tills no longer flag up pupil allergies any more. From what I've gathered, by 'Pupil Allergies' they mean SIMS Dietary Needs section, and my 'flag up' they mean when the kid scans their fingerprint they get a popup that comes up with the information that they have to manually dismiss. Through some testing, that popup only appears if there is information in the user's iDstore 'Comments' field, and it displays whatever is written there. There's an INI file that appears to just be a list of attributes to copy across, with what I assume is the SIMS attribute on the left and the iDstore attribute on the right. eg: FREEEXPIRYDATE=FREEMEALSDATE, PICTURE=PHOTO, PERSONID=ADMISSIONNUMBER, PERMANENTMESSAGE=COMMENT etc Looking at this file INI file, it looks like that carries the COMMENTS attribute. So what it looks like, is I just need to take out PERMANENTMESSAGE=COMMENT (I have no idea what field PERMANENTMESSAGE relates to, but everyone's Comment field is blank in iDstore so it's clearly not doing anything) and replace it with DIETARYREQUIREMENTS=COMMENT And now we come full circle. Does anybody know what this attribute is labelled as in the SIMS database, or how I would find out?

I'd 100% definitely run Cat5e/Cat6 through the walls, probably feed them back to the cupboard under the stairs. Stick a 12-port switch in there, run 2 to each bedroom (4), 2 to the living room (6), 2 in the kitchen (8), 1 to each of the outside walls, front and back, for CCTV (10), then the last 2 ports for a router and a NAS (for said CCTV). 'Smart' appliances are a no-go though. I personally probably wouldn't bother with speakers as I'm not really 'into' that sort of stuff, but if you do a lot of tv/movies/gaming in the living room, it might be worth it.

Another +1 for Zabbix. We use it to monitor incoming/outgoing traffic as well as UPS power levels/expected runtime.

Been bingewatching Criminal Minds recently. Yeah, yeah, I know it's a drama, and Penelope Garcia's technological prowess is extremely exaggerated, but it's still not as bad as CSI They haven't done any technobabble even close to as bad as "I'll write a GUI interface using visual basic to track the killers IP address" Supposedly (though I wouldn't have any personal experience) the profiling methods are accurate within reason for a television drama, or at least so says the internets.

Some games get a bit complain-y about Rivatuner, I remember DOTA 2 used to, dunno if they fixed it or not, but overall Afterburner and Rivatuner are fantastic bits of software.

That sounds like a Xeno thing. Having content locked behind your party's skills in JRPG's is reasonably common, but I can't think of a game I've played that does it to that degree.
