Sorry to necro, does anybody have a working way of either pushing out Audacity and LAME over GPO or running LAME on the portable version? I know Audacity has (or had) a silent install flag so I could script that, but it's LAME that's the bigger issue. Currently we run Audacity over the network off an application server, but I can't seem to find a way to make LAME work, which the Performing Arts dept think they'll need because the exam boards can be fussy about file formats. I've put lame_enc.dll into Audacity\App\LAME as suggested earlier, nada I've put lame_enc.dll into Audacity\Plug-Ins, nope, tried Plug-Ins\LAME, still no joy. I've copied C:\Program Files (x86)\LAME for Audacity to the local machine, no dice I've installed LAME 'properly' on the application server, still nothin'. I've tried changing the library settings (Edit, Preferences, Libraries) to point to the DLL via its \\UNC\Path but that doesn't appear to effect the clients that run it over the network.

Given all the photoshoppy nonsense recently, I assumed we'd moved on from 'tell us why you deserve it' In that case.. Have you ever tried stuffing a panda into a 2L cola bottle? Firstly if your answer is yes, I have several questions and this entry can wait, but I'm guessing your answer is no. And neither have I. But were I to try it, I'd imagine it would be something like building my current PC. Take a tiny low-profile case, add a non-modular power supply, and suddenly you're fighting your way through a rat's nest of tendrils reminiscent of the time you picked a fight with the Flying Spaghetti Monster. My tiny 60GB SSD filled itself to the brim (not unlike a panda in a cola bottle) a while back and it took me 2 hours to disassemble the case, take the drive out, swap it out, get the drive back in, and coax the PSU cables into spaces they probably shouldn't be going. Wouldn't be so bad if I could nix the optical drive, but our staff here insist on resurrecting the corpse of optical media every 6 months in an awful bout of technological necromancy that I daren't ask about. Also exam boards. The CPU is best described as 'adequate' (where've I heard that one before? ), a 3.6GHz i5-3470, though sometimes it decides it doesn't want to play ball and locks up on me. I'm not sure if that's a thermal/airflow issue (potentially giving rise to some "This PC blows/doesn't blow/sucks/doesn't suck" comments), if it just doesn't like sports, or if it just's getting old, but I can sympathise with the latter two options. I'd say the GPU would be the biggest deficiency, running CCTV on this R7 200 Series gets hotter and choppier than two seasons of Hell's Kitchen. And it doesn't have the lamb sauce. And finally there's the memory. RAM is RAM, and unless I have a bleating mammal inside my PC there's not a whole lot to say there. Besides, didn't we already establish the only animals I work with are pandas? Remember! Vote for the panda in the cola bottle! Vote Garacesh! Err, what do you mean this isn't a popularity contest? We need some software for the BTEC Music kids and we're, well, a bit stuck. Currently we use a combination of Notate 2, Anvil Studio and Musescore (due to limited budgets), but apparently things have changed recently and that's not enough anymore. The kids, according to our Music teacher, now need to be able to do the following: Record input from an instrument, e.g. a MIDI keyboard Manually enter sheet music by hand (Bonus points if it understands/is compatible with MuseScore's .mscz files) Create loops based on that input Have multiple audio tracks in one project Mix those tracks, e.g. reverb, levels Export the finished project as an audio file I've shown her LMMS, she feels it's a sledgehammer-for-a-walnut approach and it's way too complex her for and the kids. The exam board have recommended PreSonus Studio One 4 Prime, which is free but only provides 5 licenses (though I haven't found any information about those license limitations, so I've tried to run it off an application server to mixed success) I know FL Studio (formerly Fruity Loops) is still a thing and I do know they do educational discounts but I have no experience with it. She's enamoured with GarageBand but we can't afford a bank of iPads or Macs. We had Cubase in the past, but that was only licensed for one machine and the department have lost the accompanying USB dongle which the software won't run without. Sibelius 7 is licensed for the staff machines but the prevailing opinion is it's way beyond our budget to license it for additional pupil computers (though I'm not sure on the exact price-per-license). What software are other schools using?

Ooh nice. I'm going to assume that Heimdall wasn't a thing when I did my S7 Edge, or at least I don't recall there being any mention of it, but if there's a proper tool that has ongoing support, yeah, use that instead.

You'll want to skulk around the XDA forums for a bit. If it's anything like my old S7 Edge, there's a tool called Odin that allows you to flash it relatively painlessly, but you'll still need to do a chunk of research first. Personally, I used a ROM called Renovate Edge for mine (before I dropped it ), I'm fairly certain there was a standard S7 flavour too. I can't imagine the phones being too different. No idea if it's still in development though. But you're never short of ROMs to choose from for flagship phones. Generally speaking, once you've nailed the recovery environment, radio settings, and flashing the ROM, you can just keep bouncing between ROMs until you find one you like. Phones are a lot more resilient when flashing than they used to be, so it's a lot harder to brick your phone now, but it is still possible, so consider this your 'here be dragons' warning. Measure twice thrice four times, cut once.

Now you're just being facetious and you know it, but then again it is you.. It's one thing that people who play more will be able to do more, that's inherent to any interactive media. A painter who paints for a living will probably create more paintings than a painter who has to work a regular full-time job too. That's not the issue. The issue is that devs want you to buy into the MTX, so the game will invariably end up balanced in such a manner that tries to incentivise non-paying players to cough up some cash. Usually this is manifested in game balance, resulting in a 'grindy' game if you're not regularly buying the boosts/upgrades/whatever. The b.s. about 'player choice' is always a lie. This is never a defence. If a game includes microtransactions that give a player an edge, a boost, a buff, etc, the game will always in some manner be balanced around trying to get you to pay in.

Sounds about right That's not how you reignite interest in a game.. Then again, I can't see interest in Ingress being very high again unless they take out the microtransactions. We all knew we were having our data analysed for Google Maps, specifically the directions/satnav feature. We were cool with that. That was a fair trade. The microtransactions were just a massive slap in the face though. You gave us a game, we gave you maps data, that was the deal. Don't sit there and try to nickle-and-dime us out of cash, too.

I'm with you on that one. I think Jodie is doing a great job, but she (nor the companions) are being allowed to shine as well as they could. We see brief glimpses of what they're capable of and they've all proven they can nail it, but it all falls flat in the wake of bad writing and bad pacing. Basically, it's the Star Wars Prequels all over again. And I'm concerned that most people are just seeing "This new doctor's a bit rubbish, huh?" and we're going to end up in a 'treat the symptom rather than the cause' scenario. Eh, when compared to all the other episodes this season, and from a child's perspective, I can see it being scarier than the rest.
