You could also just try restarting the DHCP service.

Don't know what is causing the error but it won't hurt to de-authorise and authorise. I would also check DNS as AD DHCP and DNS are all dependant on each other if DNS is integrated with AD.

Start with a client exam XP Vista or win7, and head for a MCDST (Microsoft Certified desktop Technician) I'm currently working towards the 70-680 Win7 client exam). Although I'm a network manager never did any quals and think it's about time I did with the current economic climate and all. Hoping to get MCITP eventually. Of course cisco is a well sought after qual as well. You can't really learn this stuff at a college or private learning provider, well you can but I guess it's very expensive, as said buy the books setup a virtual network to get some practice.

We get £25 towards the eye test, I did ask for a contribution towards the cost of glasses but it was turned down. I think this was the LA policy, but not sure.

CC4 Unable to rebuild anything... RM say Virus?
jsnetman replied to EduMan's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Can you tell us what virus it is?, there will be lots of help here if you tell us. I would also block any laptop connecting to the DHCP server when they are brought back into school by mac address until you have looked at them. -
We allow it on staff laptops but it is a reall pain GB's of cr*ap on them, pupils no way and mandatory profiles.

Netbook are close to being chucked out the window
jsnetman replied to Little-Miss's topic in Learning Network Manager
We are in the process of buying 20 netbooks to be used from a storage/charging trolley. Could anyone tell me roughly how much a ruckus system for the trolley and 20 netbooks would cost. We are going to try a couple/three of bog standard AP's with MAC filtering and adhoc disabled at first but I need a fallback plan if they don't work efficiently. -
The head wants 20 netbooks with a charging/storage trolley. Netbooks need to run Win 7 Professional and have extended life batteries. Thanks

It's the laptops that will be connecting and a bog standard wireless net card will give you what you want.
-
Start with one AP installed, get yourself a laptop and walk about withit until the signal becomes low, situate another AP and so on.

Thats because it is impossible, you can't do direct upgrade from any 32 bit OS to 64 on MS stuff. Look in active directory sites and services the domain will be in there somewhere, you can delete them if they are no longer required, but you will have to be very careful as I am not sure of your setup.

Found this out the hard way, we initially bought 2008 and soon realised you don't get the full win7 group policy functionality. To go back to the OP I don't think you can fully manage win 7 clients if you have 2003 server even if you create an admx store and I don't think you can do that on server 2003. Basically you will get the full benefits if you have 2008 R2 server, otherwise you will get basic functionality. Win 7 is a difficult os to control if you want to lock it down by group policy and only server 2008r2 will do it. Or you use a lot of registry edits and scripts.

Yes there are people who do these exams from cheat sheets and bootcamps but as you say they are easily exposed if they have no experience.

It's easy just stick quals under your post MCSA/MCSE/CCNA...., people will take your advice if you have the relevant quals in the subject. Although you can still of course be knowledgable in a subject without.

CC4 Unable to rebuild anything... RM say Virus?
jsnetman replied to EduMan's topic in Network and Classroom Management
If it's conficker its not that hard to ger rid of. We had it maybe a year ago and I seem to remember you can apply a group policy patch to stop anything from creating a scheduled task, which conficker does. You can also deploy conficker removal tools and patch them to SP3 via startup scripts as I think GP gets applied before the virus kicks in. We also ran a memory cleaning program on all sstations and servers which basically looked for the virus in memory and unloaded it if found. -

You cannot rule out the virus causing problems to the rebuild process, if you have conficker it will limit network connectivity as it floods the network. Identify the virus and get rid is your fist priority. -
I think the LA's have already been informed about what projects will go ahead and which ones won't, just been informed by the head that BSF will not happen here, we were due to go BSF after the bidder had been chosen sometime this year. The head was not keen on a managed IT service but was desperate for a new school, so he would of went for it should we have got it. We being in North Tyneside.

I rolled out the 6.3 version of ABTutor MSI they have a problem with 6.4 MSI, something to do with language packs. I will check to see if mirror driver is deployed, almost sure it is though. Just checked and it is not, will have a play and see if it's any better.

Have to say we use ABTutor and find it reliable, had netsupport school trial for a while and seemed very buggy and crashed often. We also like the licensing model needing only a license per teacher rather than client. Doiwnside of ABTutor is it is a bit slow when remotely accessing a desktop or viewing, we have win 7 and aero enabled on all machines which could be the possible cause. You can switch this off on the client but it then is visible to the end user when viewing a desktop.

Think we bought Casio XJ-A130 LED Projector.
-
We have one here also and the image quality is far superior to any of the lamp types, we plan to replace as needed when they fail to the LED type. More expensive initially but if you deduct the lamps you would have to buy they are going to be cheaper long term. Only problem at the moment is they don't do a short throw, well they did not have short throw a few months ago but that may change soon.

Right click the volume you are having trouble with and then properties and the shadow copies tab, see if you have it enabled and scheduled.
