One of our suppliers uses cow puns, such as 'Brrrr, I'm Friesian' which is on their latest 'Cowntdown' to Christmas 'Cowalogue'. Give me strengh.

We do the same as GAS with individual machine ID numbers. We track our machines location in AD where we have OUs set for all the rooms. Again like GAS the machine ID stays with the machine no matter where it goes. It makes it easier to track the history of the machine over the years. We find once the ID number is written on the case, staff report issues with the machine serial number. Which means we don't even have to look up any details to be able to remote in. We have found it speeds up responce times, rather than the old location based naming scheme.

Took me nearly three hours to get in this morning. Oh well.

To be honest, I used to play quite a lot of DoD. I learned quite a bit about WWII missions from it because it sparked an interest. It is however really just a game for shooting people like many others.

We have a fairly small amount of 'open access' computers, and it's something I want to address. What few we have are in our library and can be used before, during and after school. Our pupils can use the same usernames and passwords at the local libraries to access the internet for free. The LEA have also supplied laptops to some families. These have been provided with a GPRS dongle, and an agreement has been setup with orange. They authenticate through the LEAs proxies, and therefore they get the same filtering / monitoring as if they were in school. Having said all that... I would still stress to our staff that an alternative to online resources should always be offered.

I have been really impressed with Sky broadband. I have now had the 'up to 16mbit' unlimited package for over a year, and it has been very good. I sync at about 12meg and can sustain downloads at about 1150k (depending on server). Pings are fairly good after I requested my 'max delay' to be reduced.

Thanks for the update. In the mean time I'll probably use Shutdownertron in combination with psshutdown to achieve my goal.

I have tried it on a single machine, and will be placing it on a suite next week I think. Seems to do exactly what I wanted (and it's a great name). My PsShutdown script takes far too long to work through. Just one question, can I run multiple policies? I'd like to run say a policy which runs at 6pm giving the option to abort shut down, and then run again at 10pm forcing a shutdown.

Unfortunately he said he was going to Uni and I'm expecting he might be a bit busy at the mo with freshers week. Currently I have moved back to V1.0 which I modded slightly for my own use.

Hi Bizzel. ShowOnAUPChange is set to true, however the policy hasn't changed in the last month. It is happening for all users whatever their status. I will PM you my config file. Cheers

Anyone else having the problem that in 1.6 the AUP is showing up every logon? AUP.ini is created as intended, and the 'AlwaysShow' setting is set to False, however the program pops up every time. Version 1.0 worked fine. Cheers

It is possible to update steady state config files to allow for more antivirus programs. I have updated it for sophos for example. Check the steady state forums, there are a few that are unofficially supported.

We had the exact same issue in exams. This silly fix sorted it for us too. I got a phone call from our support team that a 'New May Update' is being developed to fix the problem some are having with reports!

As a test, try the projector on a shorter vga cable. I had this once and it came down to cable length but only in the detection process.

Be's site often turns down applications on the distance to the exchange, where as the telephone people will take the order as long as the customer is aware they might not achieve the full 24meg. It's worth ringing them, if you decide to go down that route.
