Cheers kmount. We are looking to create a report of pupils absent from (for example) lesson one during lesson two. We use Lesson Monitor for registers.

We're looking to do an attendance type report based on lesson 1 marks rather than AM registration marks. Our attendance officer doesn't think this can be done automatically. I’ve had a quick look myself, but couldn’t find anything. At the moment, she is going through the registers manually. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The old printer will be in the profile (either roaming or local cache) I found a bit of vbs yesterday that deletes all network printers which you can run before adding. No written by me but publically available for free on the internet. [edit]Oh I was beaten to it!

@Overworked I just add a batch script which calls a reg file and silently edits the apropriate keys for the proxy. Change the icon on the batch script to look like IE, and the teachers don't know the difference. Call one Internet Explorer (School) and the other Internet Explorer (Home), and the staff just click the right one! Bat Script Export the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings string when the proxy is enabled and call it ProxyEnable.reg and do the same when it is off (under a different name and edit the bat script obviously). It works well for us.

Just a quick not to anyone on a Keep Kids Safe trial. Check the trial agreement... if you don't cancel within the trial period, you are automatically entered into a three year contract of service! So if you are not VERY happy with it. I would cancel whilst you can.

If you want to replace the battery on an APC you'll need to get the right one for the model. The battery will have a Replacement Battery Code or RBC number. The APC website should list the correct RBC for the model.

The system contacts the primary contact. By default by text (if a mobile number exists) then by voice message to a land line, finally by email. You can choose to change the order per pupil if you require, or stop a particular contact method. If the system can not get in touch with the mobile or phone after three attempts (which are all charged) it places the number into a bad numbers list, and will not try again. I have to agree with Ric_ the system is fairly expensive. £200 a month plus messages at about 6p/message. Our attendance officer is sure it can save a lot of her time, and improve attendance significantly. I'm still waiting to be convinced. Our LEA provides a text messaging service, which I want to trial also. They suggest that messages will be coming down to about 3-4p soon. Then it's just writing a report to upload.

That's interesting. We're currently trialling KKS for free but haven't yet sent out bulk messages. Just a few dozen each day for absent kids with no known reason for absence. TheCrust... just remember, any of these systems are only any good if the contact details are up to date. In my experience parents frequently change their mobiles and don't think about updating the school. KKS does message mobiles, landlines and email address' in turn if they're all on your sims server

I made a script to robocopy the program and associated files over to the client. I then used the same script to run a silent install (USBDLM -silentinstall) to register the service.

FTP into your site and check the details in your configuration.php file as sysman says. You should also be able to log into your hosts panel and check your database details using phpmyadmin. If you can't use phpmyadmin (or your hosts own database management system) it will confirm a mysql issue with your host.

If the school is looking to close on efficiency grounds (save on heating, lighting the building for 3 workers for example) you could argue it is cheaper for the school to give you the time for free. Otherwise you could look at accruing TOIL to use in the christmas closure.

Procells are very good. They are duracells in bulk packaging. They do AA's in boxes of ten, and they generally retail at about £3.50

I've never understood why people create individual shares (hidden or otherwise) for each user. NTFS permissions are better in my opinion. One share for the users drive, and correct NTFS permissions is much quicker to sort out especially if you use the handy script in the wiki, or an app such as Active User Manager. We use Intake Year-Five Letters of Family Name - First Initial - Add a number if more than one. Eg. The third Joe Bloggs in Year 7 Will be 8bloggJ3

Hello Sidewinder I had the same issue as you. Eventually I editied the source code to get around this issue. I found the instance to create aup.ini when the user pressed declined and changed it so that it created a document called aupdeclined.ini. Thats how it is working for us at the moment. Having said all that, I know Bissel was looking in to this, and he'll probably pop along soon. If you want to see my edited version... I can always send it to you to try. I am still using the 1.0 version however. I had a problem with the 1.6 version which meant that even when the AUP was agreed, the pop up would continue to pop up.

Show them round the site, giving them a good idea on the physical structure and current systems in place. Then you can base questions on how the candidate would improve what is already in place, and where the school could be in 3/5/10 years time. This will give you a good idea on observational skills. It will indicate how up to date they are with the technology and will give you ideas on how they would move the school forward. Thats what my school did for my interview. Seemed like a good idea to me.
