I agree with vikpaw. Do not rely on technology. It might be that technology which is causing the fire! The way I see it, there are two main issues. You have to check that the building is empty, and you have to check that everyone is safe. These are not the same thing. The only reliable way to check the building is empty is to sweep the building and report in. The only way to check everyone is safe is to take registers. A child could be out of the building (confirmed by sweeping) but might be down the road in the newsagent buying sweets (or cigarettes?) and might not be safe. We use lesson monitor and print the registers at the earliest possible moment, and rely on the signing in book. However I don't think that quite covers it to be honest. [edit] Just checked with one of our site guys. We do sweep as well as register. As I'm not involved I didn't know anything about it. I have been refered to our 32 page fire plan.

I know people don't like to hear from first time posters in this way. But this is entirely true. A member of staff here signed up for the trial, and it wasn't until I had a telephone call from a rival company, I checked the small print. You are meant to cancel within the three months trial, possibly by registered post (we got a number of conflicting answers by the telephone staff). I did like the KKS web front end (although we had a little trouble with the program on our sims server), and our attendance officer loved it. We are now working along side our LEA's ISP on a new system based on the Janet text messaging service. Which we can tailor better to our needs. I have to echo Mr Writers post, and tell you it was these questionable tactics which meant we stopped our trial immediately.

I dont bother creating them with AUM. I just select all the users in normal U&C after creating them via AUM csv import, and then bulk change the Home folder, using \\server\share\%USERNAME% AD will then create the folders and apply permissions. It is an available variable in the csv though. Have you tried popping it in there?

Hi Plexer. We bought this software a few months ago (and we're very happy with it). Unfortunately we couldn't find a UK reseller, and had to buy direct. We had some trouble registering the software behind our LEAs proxy, and the support from R1 was brilliant. They ended up reissuing us a licence to avoid activation (and extended it by a few months). I dealt with a guy called David Wells.

We support seven of our family schools. The primaries take anything from 1 day a week to two hours a fortnight. Emergency call outs are charged at an hourly rate. The SLA covers hardware and software on the curriculum side of the network, but we generally do anything the schools want from us. We have a very good relationship with the schools, and our prices tend to be half of what the private competition charge. We have an extra member of staff in the department than we might normally to cover the contracts. However we all make trips down to the primaries.

The amount of students who come into my office asking for files to be restored which they haven't seen for "three or four weeks maybe, I'm not sure" beggar’s belief. I would document why you have had to go for a short period of time as suggested.

I had this problem when we first started ECDL tests. It was a while ago, and this stuff is now on our clone, so it might need a tweek. I sorted it by doing the following... Get a copy of the Authorware ActiveX full installer (I forget, is this on the CD?) and use the silent switch. ECDL needs some custom AW components which will need copying to the client too. I placed these in the correct AW5.0 and AW7.0 folders within a folder called EP_components. Has anyone else had conversations at school about the new ISA scheme which is going to run along side CRBs? For anyone that doesn't know. The Independent Safeguarding Authority scheme is a register which holds convictions, allegations or suspicions of illegal activity on the registered members. The scheme is more proactive at contacting the organisation (schools, colleges, nursing homes etc.) as soon as information comes to light rather than waiting for the next round of CRB checks. We had a presentation about it yesterday and it looks like it will become an absolute mine field. Basically as I understand it, people who are not already employed directly by the organisation who make frequent (once a month or more) or Intensive (activity takes place on 3 or more days in any one 30 day period) visits will need to be ISA registered. There is no pre-registration before the law comes into power on the 12th of October. Registration will normally take 4-6 weeks. Current CRB'ed employees have up to 5 years to get on the ISA register. Interestingly, it’s the individuals who are responsible to pay the £28 one off lifetime registration fee. So currently, our contractors may not be able to work on site between October 12th and possibly the end of November (assuming they are on site once a month or more) until their ISA registration number comes through. The major problem I have is me and the rest of the team work in primary schools in the area. We are contractors to these primaries, and technically won't be able to visit until our ISA registration is complete even though we can work at our high school. I understand why this has been brought in, but it scares me that it's more a case of guilty until proven innocent. Has anyone else had this scheme pointed out to them? You really should use sysprep, or at least create a new SID. My tips for a universal image are... Use the slowest oldest computer to create your image on. Test, test and then test some more. Find a bucket load of drivers, and use a Driver Scanner (I use the one from Vernalex.com - Welcome) Sysprep. Test, test and test some more. Cross fingers and expect to have forgotten to test something.

Our attendance officer would like to run the report on a daily basis. Currently she is working her way through all lesson one registers to note down and investigate those students that havne't made it into lesson one. We would like to create a report she can run which lists those students (then I need to look at getting some other details out from the student records). Cheers Kmount, have a good week off.

If you're doing an abnormal investigation. Delving in further than you have informed the you will / might do then it comes under the RIPA rules I believe. I did the RIPA training our LEA put on, but they have changed their minds and decided all RIPA must be done by them. I would check that your head knows the official proceedure, and follows it.
