Absolutely agree. When ITV SD show football, it's often hard to work out what are feet, and what's the ball. It seems the quality took a dip each time they added a channel, presumably so their broadcast fees didn't go up too much. Nothing to do with Murdock. ITV are incharge of the bitrate - they just need to spend more money with Astra to get it turned up.

SA is based on workstations... we have about 460. CA is based on FTE staff... we have about 120. Schools agreement was quoted to me at about £27 per workstation, campus was quoted at £32 per FTE staff. I'm told that the schools agreement can't be used on a split site (this would require two agreements) and the schools agreement wouldn't cover our Adult Ed site. The M$ rep eventually got fed up with me contacting him, and got his superiors to agree a campus. He let our account manager at our reseller know, and we completed the paperwork. We did look into getting an agreement to cover our federation primaries too, but this was denied by M$.

Although we are a high school, after talking to MS reps at Bett last year (and numerous conversations on the phone afterwards) we managed to get a campus agreement rather than the schools. This saves us a massive amount of money each year and made moving from select to campus a real no brainer. I expect we're not unique; we have an adult ed centre on site, and some off site provision which helped us convince M$ to give us the campus agreement.

I would do a search on here for sysprep. Its going to make your life a lot easier if you put some time in now reading up, and creating your syspreped image. We have one image now which works on all machines. My best advise is to create the image on a really old machine with very basic hardware, look into intregrating driver packs and have a look at mysysprep.

One of our members of staff (who is an advanced motorist if that has any relevance) insists that most policies have a disclaimer if you work in a school - Transporting pupils is not covered under business use. I dont know either way, but I would check your policy if I were you.

We have received a letter from Ergo, who provided laptops and a trolley to us a few years ago. The HSE has issued a statement regarding laptop trolleys and their lack of CE marks. HSE - Services - Education ? Information sources / Guidance - Laptop computer charging trolleys safety alert Ergo outlined the issues to us in a letter dated the 10th of October. Firstly the trolleys do not have a CE mark, which doesn't necessarily make them unsafe but without assurances from the manufacturer, they represent an unquantifiable risk. Secondly there is a concern raised about the residual voltage on the pins of the plug which could cause a shock. Thirdly there is a risk of damage to the power cables (being run over for example) which is a particular risk on trolleys using more than one cable. Lastly the HSE requires all none CE approved trolleys to be operated with earth leakage trips either on the disboard, or the mains plug itself.
