@JLambert97: I personally wouldn't even think about another contract phone as you can purchase really decent android phones for far less than both these phones! Someone on here will have an idea where you can purchase these as I did see a thread once about this but can't find it atm, I am going to buy a decent spec Android phone and just a cheap Sim as I feel contracts are rip-off, the phones are sold at inflated prices so people are made to think that contracts are the only way for them to afford a phone. These are just my thoughts, what do other people think?

@Snookered: I would state that the amount of larger 128GB drives be sent to you at no cost to the school and that you would keep the smaller ones as the compensation for the amount of time wasted by yourself through no fault of the school. Go get em!

@localzuk: We have the opposite! Just had a member of staff report that flash content on a CD wont play! Strange that flash content will play through IE11 but not through the flash player although right clicking on the CD video actually gives the normal flash details! Very strange indeed will have to investigate further

@localzuk: IE 11 Windows 7 SP1 32bit - with all security and critical updates installed. Adobe Flash 14.0.0.176 installed via MSI. We have no issues at all playing flash content in internet explorer or any flash content for that matter, wonder if it could be a corrupted flash install perhaps? Have you tried installing the flash manually to one workstation and testing from there?

@speckytecky: Was this the one you were talking about:EPSON WORKFORCE PRO WP-4015 DN We have a round 5 of these and there is a nifty Epson interface to manage them with, not had any problems so far and had a couple of them around 2 years now, easy to install and cheap to run, both network and usb. @ehartley7: Why not build a 2012R2 VM and transfer the FSMO roles from the DC and demote the DC with the Sims, add another 2012R2 DC for redundancy and hey presto you've got what you wanted in 2 easy moves, tara! Or am I talking Foobar!

Apple configurator here installed on IMac, base install of free apps, give full autonomy to staff and let them deal with the devices. Works extremely well and you don't have to lock the devices down too tightly as the internet access is governed by radius on smoothwall and the students and staff are policed by policy assigned to this group. voila!

It looks more like a network issue, something to do with your firewall settings on the port forwarding side, I have had this issue when our firewall checked out one evening. I would check your firewall settings or get someone to check them for you.

We use the atomic clock app from the world atomic clock site on the DC and the others just sync from the DC, been working for at least 12 years now...........Atomic! Have used "uk.pool.ntp.org" for other setups before though and works fine!

We burn the tapes and destroy the HDD's with a very big hammer and then weigh them in for scrap! Money we make then goes to purchase other equipment. Not a chance in creation that anyone would be able to take data off shattered platters! I wouldn't trust anyone else with our schools data! even if they give certificates of verification!

We have been using Moodle for some time now and although it doesn't seem to be "Up with the crowd" so to speak it does a damn good job! MIS integration is excellent and a main feature and the drag and drop for the teachers is cool, we do find that staff are very reluctant to learn anything as they feel it should be already part of the process in that the lessons and suchlike are already within the Moodle framework. It always boils down to the teaching staff and how computer literate they are and how willing to get their hands dirty and learn something which will allow them to set their teaching workload for the rest of the year. Given that it may take a member of staff around 6 weeks to produce some good teaching lessons within Moodle it is well worth it in the end, these lessons then only have to be tweaked for the following year so, saving the staff more time in the long run, unfortunately some staff don't see this and become somewhat awkward about it. We have a junior tech who helps upload resources and teaches the staff how to go forward and they really do appreciate so much so that they become intrigued that a PFY can do so much with what they give to him to import into their lessons. Win! Win! all round and the other fantastic thing about Moodle is that it is free and the world community is behind it so it will only get better

If power drops slightly then the fibre wavelengths will become distorted and data will become corrupted, high maintenance due to high failure rate, untidiness of cabs due to cabling requirements, SFPs on the otherhand are basically maintenance free, they either work or they don't which in 12 years of using them (Touch wood) I have never had to replace any. @laserblazer: I hope the school has a risk assessment in place for that, we refused to do this as it is not a technical job, anyone can do this and we were told by the union that this was so! We give full autonomy to the staff who then sort out the logistic's and we deliver the technical support! Works very well and they take better care of the devices as they are in charge of them. Hope your not too tired after the exertion?

Hi Folks, Just bought this for my daughter to go away with and I really have been blown away by its incredible speed and flexibility to do things for the price its is, I think it represents real value for money, Has anyone tried these in an educational environment? I'm thinking of getting a few for our school for testing, we have IPads and Samsung devices with some HP netbooks but it seems the IPads just keep getting dearer and dearer without actually feeling like they are true value for money when it comes to refreshing 2 - 3 years down the line, What do other people think?

@pourzaj01: I think it could be the bonjour app patch if I'm not mistaken, a school very close to me had similar problems and this is what was required to bring it all together, I could be wrong mind you Might be something to look for from your wireless suppliers?

Just a short one this year: 1. SQL 2014 install and Sims migration 2. Spare Smoothwall config and installation 3. Development plan for Backend platform upgrades from various to 2012R2 4. Possible Zimbra upgrade dependant on which Ubuntu platform is required 5. Update all run engine packages 6. Re-Documentation of Network 7. Upgrade IE9 to IE11 8. Clean all Staff and User profiles 9. Various software packages to build, Cubase, Wordshark etc 10. General clean and cable tidy of whole school 11. Build SCCM on 2012R2 platform for the delivery of endpoint 12. Any other requests from Staff Summer school is in throughout the summer hols using the network and wireless systems plus Teaching staff will wander in and out as they wish with the requirements of using the network! Logistical nightmare! Windows of opportunities

@all: Solus 3 has been very stable here for last 3 years, we will be moving to SQL2014 shortly but on a 2008R2 Server unless I can afford Server 2012 licenses? Anyone know how much Server 2012 license is on EES licensing scheme? What do people think is the best way to license server 2012 for virtualisation? Datacentre? or Seperate standard licensing which covers 2 VMs? Any help would be appreciated thanks

@vyperz: SQL 2012 will suffice but as SQL 2014 has been released you may as well go with that and it will save you time in the long run, my only regrets is that I don't have a Windows server 2012 license as yet so it will have to remain on our 2008R2 enterprise server! Didn't mean to startle anyone but been under the cosh these past few weeks as I am a technician down plus all the strategic planning to do as with all the rest of the paperwork so I thought I needed to get it right first time if you know what I mean. @vikpaw: haha! just keeping you on your toes Hope all is well with you my good friend
