Hi Matt, I don't know what I'm looking for here. Any ideas? 2012-09-14 07:30:32.6406|Info|Current directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32 2012-09-14 07:30:32.7187|Info|Base directory: C:\Program Files\Solus3\AgentService\ 2012-09-14 07:30:32.7187|Info|Agent Service started. 2012-09-14 07:30:33.7968|Error|System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: No DNS entries exist for host morden. ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No such host is known at System.Net.Dns.GetAddrInfo(String name) at System.Net.Dns.InternalGetHostByName(String hostName, Boolean includeIPv6) at System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(String hostNameOrAddress) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.DnsCache.Resolve(String hostName) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- Server stack trace: at System.ServiceModel.Channels.DnsCache.Resolve(String hostName) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.SocketConnectionInitiator.GetIPAddresses(Uri uri) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.SocketConnectionInitiator.Connect(Uri uri, TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.BufferedConnectionInitiator.Connect(Uri uri, TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ConnectionPoolHelper.EstablishConnection(TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.StreamedFramingRequestChannel.StreamedFramingRequest.SendRequest(Message message, TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.RequestChannel.Request(Message message, TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.RequestChannelBinder.Send(Message message, TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel.Call(String action, Boolean oneway, ProxyOperationRuntime operation, Object[] ins, Object[] outs, TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannelProxy.InvokeService(IMethodCallMessage methodCall, ProxyOperationRuntime operation) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannelProxy.Invoke(IMessage message) Exception rethrown at [0]: at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.HandleReturnMessage(IMessage reqMsg, IMessage retMsg) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PrivateInvoke(MessageData& msgData, Int32 type) at Sims.Solus3.DeploymentServer.ServiceInterface.IAgentServiceManager.AgentWakeup(WakeupInfoDto wakeupInfo) at Sims.Solus3.DeploymentServer.ServiceProxy.AgentManagerProxy.AgentWakeup(WakeupInfoDto wakeupInfo) at Sims.Solus3.Agent.AgentService.AgentWakeupManager.SendWakeupInfo(WakeupInfoDto wakeupInfo)System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: No DNS entries exist for host morden. Hi I have read with great interest the many ups and downs of SIMS, in particular Solus 3, which I have been attempting to use for the past year with varied success. I've got to the point today where I would just like the ability to go to a workstation that Solus 3 continues to see as 'offline' or 'the remote machine cannot be contacted' and manually install the latest update to SIMS .net. Is this even possible any more? Thanks Graeme

We used to have this running very well until we started using the GP aspect. Although the users get to see what's being installed, etc. it can sometimes take forever to complete (and that's when it is just checking everything is up to date). Meanwhile frustrated teacher reboots computer but it just carries on from before until it completes. It could do with a 'skip' for now button I think. I have had to disable it for some users just so that they can get on with teaching!

Do schools spend more money on back-end ICT than is necessary?
winng replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in Hardware
I am currently in the process of refreshing the server and storage infrastructure at my school. I have been here for almost one academic year now. I have been patient with that they already had onsite. A bespoke Unix platform with so many open source applications to make it compatible with Windows on the desktop, etc. Total cost for a new PDC, 2 x Virtual servers (hosting 4 servers each), SAN, smaller SAN for replication, ups and kvm and a switch management/reconfiguration = £30k. There have been and will be other costs related to bringing out rationalisation and improvements to the cabinets and cabling across the school site, i.e. new fibre links, new cabinets that allow the cabling and switches to fit inside the cabinet! -
Looks like a good opportunity. I have just requested further details of the JD and Person Spec. to see if I am a good fit for this role, or not as the case may be....

I've not managed to locate my dropbox folder on the network media as it doesn't like it! -
This company recently presented a useful seminar in London attended by myself and @GrumbleDook so may be worth a call: Apple Premium Reseller | iPad | MacBook | Apple repairs | Mac support

Since joining the current school I have discovered various spreadsheets for various assets without any consistency. Then I discovered Spiceworks and it does it all for you, well most of it!

Domain names after academy status
winng replied to nicklec's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Currently, we are using an ancient POP3 open source solution however, I am hoping that I have convinced SLT, etc. to use the Google Apps accounts I have set up and am using with selected personnel, i.e. my boss! We are able to demonstrate collaborating on several documents in addition to accessing our IMAP email whenever and whereever. -
Domain names after academy status
winng replied to nicklec's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
That sounds like a good idea. I hadn't thought much past getting away from the LA. As all the 'new' email accounts will be in the same format, i.e. winng@????.county.sch.uk will be winng@????.org.uk, is it possible to set something up to redirect or forward mail? -
Domain names after academy status
winng replied to nicklec's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We are about to convert to an Academy and although we will retain the existing school name (for heritage reasons I guess) we will stop using the ???.county.sch.uk domain and use the one I bought earlier, ???.org.uk. This also make sit easier for me to move us to Google Apps without needing to request changes to the MX records. -
I attended this event earlier this week. http://emailer.squaregroup.co.uk/display.php?M=86254&C=fd1206c1e37b893c1bed5bbb9336f0b3&S=40&L=17&N=18 you may want to look at Casper for management of your iPdas

+1 for Ruckus all the way
-
At a seminar in London yesterday attended by myself and @GrumbleDook, Ruckus clearly stated that their controller (ZoneDirector) would talk to AD to authenticate the user and was capable of determining what device the user had and then providing the appropriate secure Internet access without any IT staff intervention.

+1 for Planet Rock here too
-
Hi @Grumbledock - I was there too! I guess you were the guy at the front with the Edugeek shirt? I thought it was well attended and well presented. I'm currently an Android 'urchin' myself however, it was thought provoking as to how the iPad could be used for learning.....
-
Just registering an interest to attend. I don't have any iPads or tablets here yet however, I do need to consider the future..... Colleagues of mine who do have them say it's a nightmare managing them and repairing them, etc. so it would be good to receive a postivie spin...

I would also go down the BromCom 'teachers webfolder sd' route as it saves on installation and maintenance of SIMS .net on each workstation and costs far less than SLG.
-
And mine is spelt wrong too! It could have been quite promising if only they had check my name....
-
Sounds like a great idea!
-
We are hoping to drop the SLG later this year as it looks a tired and dated interface being based on an okd sharepoint system. Our favourite alternative at the moment is BromCom's My Child At School with Teachers Web Folder. Together these will cost less than the annual charge for the SLG.

Hi We are having difficulty in ensuring accurate 6th form attendance because they attend lessons not timetabled, etc. (don't even get me started.....). A teacher has suggested the following: With the sixth form - is there a way of students logging themselves onto a computer to register? For example a computer or file somewhere takes note of a student logging themselves onto the system to show they are there? For example: Danielle logs onto A1 computer number 3 and an entry is created in a log in faculties that notes that time of log on e.g. Gippsdi - A1C3 - 14./04/12 02:28 This generated report could then be checked by the tutors when doing attendance and coded accordingly? I'm pretty sure a code can be written for that Anybody have any suggestions (polite ones please...) Thanks Graeme
