I've put Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L450. When I start to type in virtually any application, I tend to push the mouse to the right to make room to get to the keyboard. This switches the screen to desktop. Moving the mouse brings the application back, along with anything I had started typing. Not a big deal but if it happens when I start putting Windows 7 on staff laptops, they are bound to complain.

I did look on the menu to see if it offered this but the menu is in Portuguese

We are trying to learn it but it ain't easy and the dialect in the Algarve is very different to Lisbon. Not only that but Coroação Rua is cr@p We do have a separate dish on the European satellite and we can get German and Dutch, which we can follow. One of the German channels broadcasts every F1 event, so it's not all gloom and doom. There are also loads of XXX channels, which is interesting because the EPG shows a thumbnail. It can get quite embarrassing searching for stations.

I think there may be a real push in that direction. We can't justify the cost at present for the amount of time we spend out there.

I don't know. If there is still a signal but it's weaker, then shouldn't pointing the dish directly at the new satellite make some improvement in the same way as it would with a terrestrial aerial? Some people are saying a 3 metre dish will help. It will be a real bummer for the sports bars that attract trade by showing football on big screens.

There's a big change with the Astra broadcast satellites, with Freesat moving to Astra 2F, which has a tighter UK spot beam meaning the peripheral coverage is nowhere near as good and reception in Southern Spain and Portugal deteriorating. I asked if it would help to realign the dish and was told it would make no difference. The old and new satellites can't be in the same location, so why shouldn't pointing the dish at the new one make a difference?

Sorry, but someone has to provide for a scenario where it simply isn't available. Believe me, this will happen at some time. A big slice of the population will be without any internet access at all. A similar situation was the King's Cross bombings, when the mobile phone networks got so overloaded they fell over and the emergency services suffered as a result. They have subsequently come up with a Plan B.

But that's the point. We do get powercuts or a breaker trips and the lights go out. It tends to be daylight, so they can continue to teach for a while, same with the heating. If it becomes a problem, then we close the school. That's where the tethered laptop comes in. The Office Manager can access parentmail even though the phones and internet are down. I'm not saying teachers should have a physical Plan B for every lesson. In the very rare event that they lose the internet they should be able to improvise if they know their subject.

And where's this reliance going to lead us? We are already at a stage where transport and commerce collapses when the computer system goes down. It's all going to go pear-shaped one day and it's the people living in mud huts who will survive.

To be honest, I think it does staff and pupils good to realise that the technology is fallible and to get them to resort to Plan B. If the internet goes down here I'll tether a laptop to a phone for the Office Manager to access emails.

Rub some honey into the skin before cooking. That will make it mega crispy. Our plan on Xmas day is to pop into my daughter's with their presents then drive down to Weston to stay overnight at the mother in laws before flying to Portugal next morning. The mother in law is not really up to cooking a big meal, so we were going to prepare it at home and take it down with us. But seeing as how you live in Taunton, we could always put it a few extra miles and come and help you eat your turkey

Our teachers get one, many of which double as their classroom computer. I think there would be a riot if we stopped giving them out.

+1 for these. £99 each and do the job. Plug into a usb port, so no need for passthrough or any of that. Resolution is pretty good if you change it drom the default 640 x 480. If you get a pack of 6, you get free talking point recorders.

It doesn't appear to work. Or not with My Galaxy Ace anyway. I tried a couple of Kindles and they would see it ok but wouldn't connect.

I smell a rat! The camera in front of the stage is a good trick and improves the audio vastly and is easy to sync. If you put it on a tripod pointing up towards the stage, you can get some interesting shots.

It was on BBC as well but the commentary wasn't as funny. Well done Jensen, despite the safety car's best efforts.

Seems there are ways but you have to root the phone and download a fix. I might try it on my phone but I'm unwilling to do it on someone else's.
