[trade/exchange] Kettle Lead Splitters and Projectors
Warwick_Tech posted a topic in Classified Adverts
Hi All, I now have a surplus of double kettle leads, if anyone wants to collect let me know (we are based around SE) They are all PAT 2020 We also still have these Epson Projectors that if no one wants are going to scrap; http://www.edugeek.net/forums/classified-adverts/213888-swapshop-epson-projectors-activboards-visualisers.html And we are still after any BBC\Acorn\BASIC kit http://www.edugeek.net/forums/classified-adverts/216609-bbc-basic-commodore.html If anyone wants to do a swap shop let me know, otherwise they're all going for scrap. -
[sims] Sims Teacher App Vs. Alternatives
Warwick_Tech replied to Warwick_Tech's topic in MIS Systems
See ironically I scrapped that server farm when I started - Too unsecure Plus with the remote access route I'm still pestered to buy machines; I'd rather an 'app' as that's lingo they can get behind! -
Hi All, I've been asked to investigate a way of getting cloud access to SIMS before SIMS Secondary goes live - I am a big fan of vanilla, so I suggested the SIMS Teacher app, but wanted to get some realtime feedback from actual users. Or, does anyone know of any alternatives that allow SIMS access over the cloud? We have Go4Schools, however this is for deep access like MIS managers, SLT etc. Regards,

Hi All, Does anyone else use Artinet testing software? It worked fine on Server 2012R2 but since an upgrade we get the following error; But only for staff, domain admins can load it fine (except the licencing error, but I would never suggest a workaround for that on a public forum) I've made sure all the permissions are correct, everyone has modify access to the DATA folder - but is there anything else I could be missing? Cheers all, at the very least does anyone still use this program? Hodder just want to sell us the latest version (no surprises there) https://www.hoddereducation.co.uk/accessreadingtest

Hey All, So I had a scare last week with the server and had to restore a bare metal backup. In the end I scrapped it and rebuilt, but that's not important - what is though is the bare metal restored everything, except installed programs. They were there, but were blanks on control panel and had that broken MSI box pop-up when you did anything with them. Below are my backup commands, do I need to alter something to capture programs too? The VM servers are happy, but they are just called back from the VM

Thanks Ricki - For some reason it was a combination of the drivers and a cumulative update for server 2019, phew However I do seem to have lost all my shares, though the security permissions are still there - Trying to rack my brains RE the best way to recall what was and wasn't shared... ---------- EDIT Setting up the shares, all the security settings have been retained; but the shares have not For all my other sharesm MSI etc I always set it to 'everyone' read only, but as I tried this I got a permissions error, so I changed it to everyone 'modify' Am I right in thinking this is ok to do? I tried accessing other peoples home areas and I got the deny box, so I assume security permissions override sharing permissions, and it's ok to set to 'everyone' If that makes sense, pictures attached. Does anyone do file sharing and security differently? ------------ Edit 2 Followed the good practice guide from this blog, as recomended by MS https://blog.foldersecurityviewer.com/7-best-practices-in-managing-ntfs-permission/

Hey Guys, Typically just before term starts my in-place upgrade of the last server has failed - It's the file server and is split into two raid configurations; A: is the OS B: is all the data Now I rolled back the update and the server now see's the data share (It's lost some programs but that's about it) however on reboot when connected to the domain I get the window startup box, followed by a black screen. Even stanger, people can still access their documents and all the shares work, just no GUI (Yes, I tried to install the GUI with no joy) If I continue the upgrade it works fine, but the data drive disappears and windows doesn't register it at all. I had a similar problem with a server bulit by another company and they said it was due to the 'encryption of the raid controller to prevent HDD theft' When prompted to clarify they got all touchy and asked for money (typical) Tomorrow I'm going to try and fix the black SOD issue, but in the meantime has anyone had either the BSOD or missing physical drives when upgrading from server 2012 R2? All my other servers took the update fine. Quick rundown: Server 2012 R2 fully patched, Server 2019 without updates (release version) Raid 1 OS and Raid 5 Data on a DELL/VIGLEN LSI controller (Raid controller reports all drives online) Cheers all

Old School Antenna and Digital TV
Warwick_Tech replied to Warwick_Tech's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Hi All, An update - I got one TV working at 25% signal, but the other two are still broken; I'm going to try and plug in a cheap portable aerial and hide it in the ceiling to see if I can get a better picture. In all this excitement I'm pleased to get BBC news 24 in our new parents waiting area! -
Oh, yes please! PM also sent

Hey All, We have a dead POE Unifi Switch; does anyone know any good places to either: * Send it for repair * Purchase a replacement PSU Or does anyone have any dead Unifi kit we can frankenstein?
-
Hi All, When our building was built they installed a hefty 3 aerial cables that fed into a box of pure terror (capacitors and cables with no shielding) Over time I've removed said box as it was not required; however now we need a digital TV feed for a few rooms downstairs. I've re-plugged in the aerials, but they still get very poor reception. I assume this is because of the length of the rum (maybe 150M+) Anyone have any recommendations of antenna boosters that work? I've yet to find one that lives up to expectations. Regards,

Netgear M4300-24X24F ProSAFE random ports turn off (?)
Warwick_Tech posted a topic in Wired Networks
Hi all, I've noticed on our less than a year old, but old enough to be out of support or warranty Netgear M4300-24X24F ProSAFE unit, a port has randomly died; I plugged the cable into another port and it was fine, checked storm control and all that jazz but no joy - I've had random ports die before, but does anyone who is a netgear specialist know much about these switches? The port goes to a network card on an NIC team with two Cat6 cables, but only 1 works unless plugged in elsewhere. Regards, -

Reddit to the rescue! However, I don't like loading drivers onto my MDT as I've had disasterous consequences before from this; Does anyone have any other ideas/solutions? -
Hi All, Wierd issue we are now experiencing; Around 50% of new machines built on cat6 cables now freeze on a blank wizard.hta screen A restart either thinks the deployment is complete, or constantly logs in as administrator or default0 This is on a new WIM of 1909 MDT 6.3.8450.1000 The others go to deployment completed successfully or report failure as normal. Anyone else had this? ----- On a seperate note, some newer machines also take an age to download the NBP file, does anyone have any advice on this? All my boot images are x64 as we run a purely 64bit environment now. Regards,
-
Yeah, I figured as much; The idea was to use an emulator for a PC suite but then have a real C64 running up the front. TBH the project has been put on a back burner due to Corona. cheers anyway all

[1809, ou] Mapped Drives are hit and miss after connecting to the VPN
Warwick_Tech replied to Silica's topic in Windows 10
I think it's worth a test yes, then you can narrow down the options. Regards, -
Glad to hear it's resolved; For reference ProPlus has now been re-named Office Apps A1 is the free version of 365 online resources Basically A1 is your base online access, Office Apps (ProPlus) give the ability to the download button or activate on 99% of new Windows machines for home use

[1809, ou] Mapped Drives are hit and miss after connecting to the VPN
Warwick_Tech replied to Silica's topic in Windows 10
My immediate thought is are you connecting via IP address or FQDN? On my VPN it didn't like FQDN until I input the DNS servers manually (via IP) -

Same here, couldn't find any skimmed for a week, my theory was it took more time and money to produce skimmed so it was dropped in favour of whole and semi ? -
Hi Mav, I don't want to ask too much as I know it's all voluntary; However it looks like your script may work better as if it only edits the metadata; in theory the files all remain .mp4 (so no breaks in premiere projects if they've imported before the compression) But it would still create a new file so bypasses the quota settings; can you think of any way to generate the new MP4 files as the original owner? Sorry to ask, but if you can help we may be able to get this working.
-
So decided to try and implement this script, however two issues; It seems to delete the old file, well not exactly but it appears in the repository with 0kb second is there any way of forcing the owner of the new file to be the owner of the old file? At the moment it changes the owner to Administrator which throws off our quota settings.
-
Assuming the app identifier is always WindowsCamera_8wekyb3d8bbwe,# I figured this would be an unlikely fix!
-
Another thought I had, was there a PS script to auto upload all the video footage to stream (office 365) and delete the originals?
