Hey All, I have a persistent problem with my WSUS server - She's a new build 2-3 years ago on Server 2019 x64, plenty of resources, RAM etc on a VM She's been working fine for years, but now suddenly she keeps falling over and the only solution is a restore from backup, but then a week later she falls back over again. Symptoms are: * WSUS service halts unexpectedly, will resart manually but makes no difference * Clients report generic error "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x8024401f)" * Tons of ASP.NET 4.0 errors in the log file * WSUS Error 507 - Update Services failed its initialization and stopped. * WSUS Error 7053 * MMC Errors * Lots of Events in Security Auditing 5152 ^ theres tons of these for all different ports and IP addresses --------------- Solutions: * Restore VM, but it then falls back over a week or so later * Increasing memory for IIS makes no difference * Increasing resources for VM, no change * Restarting all services, no change Anyone got any ideas? Thanks Both, that has brought her back to life and she is slowly (very slowly) updating Solus agents (I think) but the update is still stuck on 'Upgrade Service' in 'install mode' and any new agents are stuck in 'Install queued'

My Solus install has broken completely after an attempt to upgrade to .59 We had to go to .50 first but this removed the service, causing the update to freeze - So now I'm stuck with a brick. At least people can still use SIMS and our support company all working from home are 24hrs with no response....

I always wondered this one; as the PW is stored in plain text (presumably) what is the minimum rights an account needs to join PC's to the domain? I believe accessing the network shares UN/PW on launch and task sequence permissions are all encrypted, but things like the local admin and this PW are still in plain text - What rights has everyone got for this user?

Maybe check in AzureAd to make sure the server is de-activated/disconnected/deleted, it can pop up in several places portal.azure.com > Azure Active Directory > Devices Or on windows: Settings > Accounts > Access to Work or School > disconnect any accounts there Or - It still thinks an install is pending/in progress - I *THINK* you restart or force close the installer service, but I could be wrong on that one

Well, it seems to be ok - Though that article is in need of some translation and error correction - Basically it turns out they were using the newer recovery partition, as I assigned two drive letters (R and T) and it reported T was the primary recovery partition; Though when I ran reagentc /disable it deleted the .wim file completely (both times) so had to steal it from another server and re-register them the annoying part was I couldn't use the old recovery partition as it was 5mb too small and creating a new one would just drop it at the back, blocking future expansion without going through this whole process again So workaround was to load the recovery partition onto C: directly (not ideal, but it's all on the same physical drive anyway) and make sure it was pointed to C: In conclusion, it's actually interesting to see how all this works and I would encourage doing the first few steps to check your partition tables, though do not run reagentc /disable without due course and attention!

Hi All, So I decided to give my VM's some more space to work with, but although extending the drives worked for the newer one, older units that had two or more recovery partitions won't extend because they cannot access the block of data behind the Recovery Partition - I've been recomended third party apps like AOMEI, but the free version has now server support (apparently) Can anyone share some insight? Hi All, So we recently delved into; Azure AD > Devices And discovered all our domain devices and all our Covid laptops loaned out as well as a bunch of personal machines. Now, as is my understanding this is when they add their account to office/windows 10 etc. etc. either at setup or 'connect my work or school account' They are limited to 20 devices currently, but realistically how do you control this? I would've thought domain machines and personal devices should be kept seperate, but how (?) It's a bit of a mess of settings. We also have some guest users who appear occasionally - We delete them and make sure the settings are up to date but occasionally they sneak in, what could we be missing? Azure AD > Users > Add filter > User Type (Guest) Who are these guys?

I believe so, it was our old core before we upgraded - It was cheaper to purchase a new switch with 10GB capability than get the 10GB modules for this unit - Plus the new one is only 1U and much quieter! It's frustrating as you say, too good to scrap
