Mine are 'static' but I've not configured the switch - what's the difference with 'Switch Independent' ?

Hi all, Our big TV antenna booster that was in one of the server cabs has gone pop and I know little/nothing about what it is or where to source a replacement; the only things I can find are cheap units for houses, not something industrial like we have. Anyone have any ideas or can help? Honestly this thing looks like it's from Frankenstein’s laboratory....

I believe so, yes - I added the app as a trusted app in Azure then added everyone via distribution groups (it's smart enough to dynamically update so you don't need to keep updating the user list, as long as they are in the distribution group) To be honest, I actually quite like Azure SSO apps

You must ensure the laptop is connected to power throughout this process. 1. Boot the laptop and login to the local admin account a. Laptop boots into localuser b. Logout of localuser c. Login as the local admin user:.\localadmin d. Enter the local admin password for that laptop, supplied by the Central Admin support team 2. Enable the recovery partition a. Run the cmd application “as administrator” b. Enable the recovery partition using the command: reagentc /enable c. The output should say: “Operation Successful” d. Check the partition status using the command: reagentc /info e. The partition should now be: “Enabled” 3. Unlock the device BIOS a. Follow the instructions provided by Central Admin support team which will be correct for your device type. This usually includes running a program “as administrator” which removes password protection from the BIOS and enables network and USB boot options, but please refer to instructions from the Central Admin support team. 4. Logout with “change user” to get to the login screen a. Hold and click on the power icon and then “restart” b. The laptop should enter a “Troubleshoot” menu c. Select “reset this PC” d. Select “remove everything” e. If the above sequence doesn’t work then you should be able to enter recovery mode using the relevant key combination for the laptop manufacturer at boot HP: press F9 key ASUS: press F9 key “continuously” Lenovo: press FN+F11 keys at the same time Dynabook (Toshiba): press and hold 0 (zero) key 5. The laptop should reboot into “Reset this PC” a. Select “No – remove provisioning packages...” b. Select “Clean the drive fully” c. Select “reset” to confirm

As silly as it sounds I think even a torch or laserpen will let you know which cable is which, just don't look down it, instead hold a piece of paper across and see if you get any light My old manager used to look down them, which just terrified me tbh (shh, he still posts here)

Just my two cents, we tried to do the same but ended up dropping Python as an install completely and using cloud versions instead - I remember we had a heated argument both here and at BETT where we all threw our hats in the ring "Students can do this anyway, it's not a hole" "Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted" etc.etc. It just all got a bit heated. From my experimentation remvoing the os.py breaks python, there is no way to seperate the aspects of the program, so I put my foot down and had it removed. The more they type it, the more likely they are to remember what it is when asked for it! Passwords on the other hand...

+1 Shared device licencing and then link Azure AD (if you have it) to their 'federated ID's' - It does mean giving Adobe full access to Azure by an admin

Hi Steve, thanks for this; I wonder if only internal emails then should be encrypted (I'll have a ponder) As for the loop, I thought this too, however I've tried 3 outside emails (all MS admittedly) from Outlook and OWA, they all just loop constantly.

Hi All, I know Office 365 is encryped naturally, however there are the extra encryption options in Outlook and the web client; Does anyone have these turned on by default? Do you encrypt 'everything' or have seperate policies? I'm having an issue where some 'encrypted' emails can be read in plain text, others prompt with a 'read this message' button but it just loops new browser windows each time. MS are at a bit of a loss as they say it's working their end (typically) I can't also think of a down side of encrypting EVERYTHING via a rule (it seems to plain text without prompts in both OWA and Outlook)

Would you mind sharing your settings for this? I cannot seem to loosen Onedrive without making sharepoint accessible too (as you say, it's better the other way around)

So we have Unifi and we need to put up an external AP to cover the AWP (and 6 miles down the road apparantly) I've played with the older Unifi bridges before, but this time I only have a single access hole, though it is right next to a cabinet. Of the outdoor solutions has anyone had any level of success with these units? I'm tempted by the smaller, but that bigger unit promised 1500 users (on a single Cat5e line???) Also it looks like the smaller is 360, but the antenna may restrict access behind it (?) I still need to read through all the manuals admittedly, but wondered if anyone had experience of these units in particular?

Yes, it seems you can change options in both and it applies the same; however Teams access is in a different place (of course) Reading through this guide I was able to decipher that when you slide the bars up, it gives you the additional options you mentioned; however in order to get more restriction options, you set everything to anonymous (?) Hi All, So we have inevitably got to the point where suddenly users are discovering how wonderful cloud services are (who would've thought, right?) So now a few exam boards and invigilators are asking for files to be shared with them over the cloud (This is great for assessment based subjects to be fair) The issue is I have a locked down legacy SharePoint and OneDrive where our data was all 'on-site' Does anyone have any guidance on how I can allow external party sharing without opening a whole can of worms? I know you can add agreed domains and such, things like auto expiry of links - the only thing I've found so far is a 'permissive slider' which seems a bit loose in my opinion. Anyone want to share their policies? Am I the only one who is this paranoid RE locking down data?

Hi Guys, How do you deal with drive failures when you lack the spare parts like for like? I'm lucky enough to have some spare HDD's for my server farm but supplies are running low and they've all gone EOL - Is it simply a case of finding the modern 'equivalent'? anyone have any companies they use to source specific parts? So far we have: * 1TB SEAGATE ST1000NM0023 * 256GB TOSHIBA THNSNJ25 (Now confirmed EOL) * 128GB TOSHIBA THNSNJ12 (Now confirmed EOL) * 4TB SEAGATE ST4000NM0025 (These were replacements for an older model)

So several MIs systems use a SSO option, SIMS, Bromcom Etc. Do you use this feature? Or is the argument although it's more complicated for users is it better to use seperate passwords for cloud services and MIS? Whilst I agree with the above, the likleyhood a user uses the same password anyway is quite high, so if they forget one, they're likely to forget the other....

An age old question, which might be good to get some anonymous data for: Do you allow password writeback so staff/students can change their passwords off-site? Or do you lock password changes to on-site only? I'm tempted by the former, however the idea of self serve passwords when users forget their own heads most days frightens me - I wonder if we can set it so only Administrators can writeback (?)

Hi All, We use a script to sweep and wipe emails from a specific user But is there a way to do whole domains? Standard wildcard * and removing the @ show an error.

I really get the feeling these have been built using 'spare parts' from other off the shelf products. Maybe I'm just cynical though.

For anyone who needs it: What this does is make a temp group, delete the old group then re-create and delete the temp group. Clever, eh?
