I would start by making a survey asking staff how confident they feel at doing various things that relate to their role. Once you have data like that you can highlight common or key areas where people feel that their lacking. The only problem with this approach is that people can sometimes over estimate their own competence, in this case you could talk to line managers about any improvement points that may have arisen from performance reviews.

Agreed but the point being that there wouldn't be the need for downtime prior to the day, as it stands I would need a test window and the day of the migration. As @robyholmes said I might just give it a go without stopping services next week just to prove concept.

Would this work without the services and the DB being stopped? I was under the impression that the DB would just not get migrated if it was in use.

The problem is that with external access I never have a window of availability to test. There is always a deadline for something that means it can't go offline, it can be bad enough trying to fit in the main release updates and they only take a matter of minutes to apply. Even the half term is a write off with practically the whole of year 11, sixth form and their teachers in. It is running SOLUS 3 and a few other SIMS related tools like Firefly uploader, the latter just being a scheduled task.

Morning All We will be having our SIMS server P2V'd over the summer and the existing hardware brining into our Cluster. I have been looking at taking the P2V element of this work on myself but the fact that it is the SIMS server is making me uneasy. Is there anything in particular that needs to be done with SIMS to ensure a successful P2V? What my basic understanding suggests, keeping everyone off SIMS for the duration: Install VMware Converter on the SIMS Server. Stop all SQL instances and all non Microsoft services. Select an appropriate ESX host by IP and an appropriate storage location. Keep the workstation name the same. Remove any local mapped drives from being moved. Make sure that the network interface is not connected at power on. After the migration completes. Remove any unnecessary hardware mappings like serial and parallel ports from the VM. Power off physical SIMS server and bring virtual server online. Re-Map any removed shares. Restart all stopped services and SQL instances. Test, test and test some more. Like I said, anything other than the SIMS server and I'd be quite happy to take a swing at it. Or would I be better off paying for it to be moved and removing the what if factor? Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Please update if you get success with this, I always presumed it would never work as a remote app due to the absence of the SIMS share.

I think that everyone knows that Leicester can't possibly compete in League, Cup and Europe with the current squad they have (in terms of quality and depth). You overlook that Spurs had the "luxury" of rotating their squad so not all players played all games, Leicester used the same players for the vast majority of their games (they were fortunate with injuries). On the internationals front; if you have players that are full internationals then the club knows what comes with that and should build a squad to accommodate this. For example, if you have African players that will be called away during the season rather than an international break.

Have you checked you internet filtering logs and firewall to make sure the relevant URLs aren't being blocked and you have the appropriate ports open, if it is Citrix I believe ICA needs ports 1494 and 2598 to be open.

If you're using the Online Beta, it will stream indefinitely, or more likely until the stream is interrupted. Once you stop the stream the last 12 hours of content is available as a standalone YouTube video. I had to do the exact same thing for the same reasons last week!
