I wouldn't recommend these types of apps on anything that runs Lollipop or later, the vast majority cause more problems than they solve. Android really isn't that bad at releasing memory now. As for Apps, I love use: Google Keep for notes Apex Launcher is my launcher of choice (there are lots of good launchers for Android including Launch-X and Nova) As already said Swift Key is brilliant Microsoft Office!

All I can do is speak from my experience. Yes, CC4 puts an overhead on many aspects. Have I ever seen it dramatically impact hardware to the extent describe here; no. There are always variations between networks and CC4 adds complexity to how it all works but if CC4 is so fundamentally wrong regarding speed I must just be the exception to the rule as my modest hardware seems to be holding up just fine.

Some people are quick to assume CC4 is the issue with things like this, sometimes it can be a case of GPO issues. My office workstation is an i3, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD; boot to login screen is sub 40 seconds. Some our computers with spinners still in them boot to login around your 1:30 benchmark too and their nothing special spec wise (Dual core Celeron with 2GB RAM).

Only any help if you are using Server 2008, the answer is yes but only with fine grained policy. I had a quick look over the summer but didn't have a chance to actually do anything with it. My wireless (Aerohive) supports redirection when the initial connection is made. The only problem is that it is a one shot deal, if people ignore it the only way back to it is to browse to the URL.

I was saying that in regards to getting the users to my non SSL instruction page.

It won't break anything it's just that the information sent from the login page is not encrypted, otherwise it is exactly the same as using the SSL methods. It does get around the need for the certificate before browsing anywhere though.

The latest update from Smoothwall allows for non-SSL login pages. What I am doing is setting up redirection on our wireless to forward users to an internal page (could be external as long as it isn't HTTPS & using transparent proxy) which has the certificate and a few install guides for the different OS's. Still very much a work in progress and it only automatically redirects the first time a user joins the network. There will be no way to automatically install the certificate.

I might have a look during the October half term, there is no way I'm messing with the wired traffic this close to exam results!

Just a bit. I have cracked on now; I have all my DHCP scopes, switches configured, Aerohive tagging VLAN traffic and Smoothwall filtering as expected. Just playing now trying to break it as a user, so far no luck

Guess what, Windows f****** Firewall! For anyone looking at this I would say everything up to post #41 (& #48) is all good advice. My issue was that when I originally created the VLANs the switch did not create entries in the routing table for them. I resolved this by simply deleting and recreating the VLANs, they then showed in the routing table as expected. Everything from post #42 onwards was because Windows firewall had been turned back on. Many thanks to @FN-GM, @themightymrp, @IrritableTech & @simpsonj for their help on this.

So switch factory reset and settings put back in, still no luck. I am going to take the 3rd switch I have APs connected to offline tomorrow and see if I can get VLANs to talk to each other. I am starting to think there may be something wrong with the core switch. Everything I have done so far suggests that the VLANs should at least be able to talk to each other.

@simpsonj could you compare or put up your config (or pm me), I just want to see if there are any subtle differences. Failing that I will be resetting my switch config this afternoon and starting from scratch. Should only take 20 minutes to get back to this point.
