**SPOILER - In the Chocobo races you can get virtually unlimited stamina on the PS1 by holding L1 and L2 down (if I remember properly). You can go at maximum pace and sprint for large parts too. Only grind of note I ever did was getting Aeris Ultimate Limit (Great Gospel) and using it during the boss fight in the Temple of the Ancients.

Possible long shot here but is anyone replacing any SMART UF-75 setups between now and September and wouldn't mind parting with the convex mirror? We have one where the reflective surface on the convex mirror has come off in places, leaving the projected image unreadable. I have been told by several resellers that the mirror is part of the projection unit and the only way to get a new one is to buy a new UF-75 projector and boom arm! The issue is that in the brief I have been given I can't see a way of making them open enough for use at home but controlled enough for use in school. This is where my theory of dual booting them came from, the best of both worlds. Staff have full remote access to our Citrix TS, that's why I wouldn't be bothered about software on the stand alone OS as everything required could be accessed from the TS. In an ideal world we would just geofence the laptops and restrict what they do that way.

I wouldn't have a problem with the classroom laptop setup as long as the laptop was using a proper docking station rather than getting staff to regularly handle the cables. Unfortunately if we were to implement this, it simply would not be the case. All interesting points so far.

This would be our problem, we actively promote the use of our Citrix TS for staff to use at home. I would much rather have all the staff laptops back, repair them and then turn them into a couple of class sets where they would be used. I suppose the issue with that is breaking the perception that all teaching staff must have a laptop provided by school.

This is one avenue I have not considered up to this point, I will have a look at how viable this would be. My issue with it being a domain only computer is that many staff would want to install software (I include printer drivers in this) for use at home. If I relax this I would not want staff to have domain computers with everything under the sun installed on them.

Now that I find interesting as I mentioned this to the leadership here and was immediately told that staff must have a laptop. I know this has not been the case since the laptops for teachers 'initiative' some 10 years ago.

We are reviewing the use of our staff laptops (or lack of). I was wondering what others out there are doing. Anyone doing anything particularly clever that they wouldn't mind sharing? At the moment we just have them built as stand alone devices with the teacher as local admin. Most get taken home and never see the light of day or get used as the household computer for the whole family. I am thinking of dual booting the laptops with our controlled domain partition and a stand alone 'home' partition. There would be a 3rd Bit Locker encrypted work partition that both OSs can sync with the one drive for business client. This would hopefully provide full functionality in and out of school and remove the need for staff to have USB drives. Opinions and pointing out obvious faults that I have missed are welcome.

Haven't Meraki set a limit on the number of devices you can enrol for free now though? Or is my mind making things up again.

Hi @OB1 I know we are probably getting a little wound up as a lot of sites that were previously allowed are being blocked by Smoothwall. This is causing some frustration in lessons and although staff are letting us know about sites I still can't shake the feeling that we are being a bit too restrictive. Using the File Hosting group as an example, why would I want to block it? The description seem benign enough and would just need staff to be reminded of data protection and compliance. Obviously things are improving every day with us reviewing and adding more sites to our allowed list.

Having a bit of a dilemma with Smoothwall at the moment. We are a medium sized secondary and have just implemented a Smoothwall UTM appliance setup in education mode. As expected we are finding things a little restrictive at the moment and I have been toying with the idea of allowing certain groups through to help reduce the number of individual URL exceptions we are making. For example dropbox is blocked from the file hosting group, I would also assume that many other sites we would access would also come under this category. The problem I have is the unknown, what if this category is blocking a site that is hosting malicious files that I would like to block, I have no way of being sure of everything this category block is protecting us from. This isn't coming from a workload viewpoint for me or my team, this is trying to ensure we aren't restricting teaching and learning too much. I know these are calls that we make alone but how liberal are others here?

Sorry to drag up an old thread, does anyone know how to get the data out of the SQL DB? I am reviewing whether we are going to pay for the legacy license or if just exporting the data into Access would sufficient.

HS2 is primarily being sold on the promise of decreased travel times to London. What I am saying is that the Midlands and London aren't so far apart to justify a slight decrease in travel time for such a massive amount of money.

I will PM you the provider. Good early planning has helped with the transition (although I still ran into a couple of DNS issues) and had the proxy specified in some unexpected and undocumented places. 200/1000 connection, FTTC backup and Smoothwall; over £3,000 pa less than renewing. So that's £3,000 pa less for; more bandwidth, more control and redundancy on the line!

If you think train fares are expensive now, I can only imagine the cost of a ticket for HS2! Is the slightly decreased time to travel really that important (possibly for longer haul journeys than to the midlands)? HS2 is bearing all the signs of a white elephant to me; poorly planned and budgeted.

Pretty much what I expect to happen, I think the days of majority governments are now gone. People have far more information about the lesser parties than in pervious years so people are more inclined to vote accordingly. A couple of governments like this may be what it takes to spark mass debate of FPTP.

Not to my knowledge here, do Sandwell have any jurisdiction over your school? Or do you have any students from the Sandwell area? All sounds a little suspect to me.
