@jonbd I was in a similar situation last summer and people here managed to help me through it. You can find the thread here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/156740-subnet-change-vlans.html One thing I would recommend with Aerohive is to have your APs in their own separate management VLAN (once you have VLANS working of course), it helps keep things tidy in DHCP and if you ever want to use RADIUS authentication will remove a lot of pain short and long term.

Are your clients using transparent or non-transparent proxy? I had this issue with our Citrix server when clients were using the non-transparent proxy.

I may have read something wrong but surely this would just be a case of going to Web Proxy> Authentication> Manage Policies> and setting up "Redirect users to a Non-SSL Login page" on a relevant location in the appropriate policy table. Of course the users would still need a valid account to authenticate with.

If you are thinking of applying for a mortgage during the time it will take to pay off it may prove a false economy. Having a monthly debit like this would significantly reduce the amount of money the banks will lend. I was in this situation 10 years ago and I could borrow more by paying off the car with my savings, even though this reduced the deposit I had. I was then able to save more aggressively without that monthly outgoing from my account and quickly built up the deposit again. Don't forget that with PCP you still need to pay or finance the cost of the car at the end of the period. Really not worth it IMO. What do you want more; new car or a house?

Are you able to provide a link to the document? It certainly hasn't crossed my desk yet! Those figures are just about in like with what I was told by Link 2+ years ago and from a couple of people from within the council. The actual problem here is that the Council built all of these systems purely with BGFL in mind, from what I can tell they don't have the expertise / time / funding to move away from this setup. Hence the costs of Link2ICT facilitating this change is being passed directly to the schools. On a side note, I wonder what the Council are going to do with HR Portal once Java stops being supported by Oracle.

Like many I have been reading this with great interest. I have been looking over my current 5 year plan with optimism because detailed investigation into Azure AD was on my to do list in 2017/18 but at the same time with complete despair at the thought of possibly needing to implement it so soon. At the risk of driving myself insane all I am doing for now is making the powers that be aware of the document and the possible cost rises; I will awaiting what response @Dos_Box gets. I think it's a bit early to be jumping to conclusions until we hear from Microsoft. Like many of you it really doesn't help when you are having to budget 2 or 3 years in advance but without the facts our hands are tied or in some cases forced. Plan for the worst hope for the best.

In theory yes, but in practice that leaves you with a very large broadcast domain and you will eventually see your network swamped with broadcast traffic (Especially if you use Apple devices or have Bonjour enabled on your printers). It might be a good idea to start looking into VLANs. Using Aerohive here with great success, it was a close call between that and Ruckus. In the end there were certain things that Aerohive does that was a better fit for us; such as PPSK for devices that don't support 802.1x, VLAN and firewall policy being applied at the AP. The Ruckus solution quoted covered our site with fewer APs but it didn't help with density if you have one AP covering 4 rooms. Once I factored in how many APs we would really need and added the warranty (not included by default!) it was a no brainer for us to go with Aerohive. We also looked at Meru but it was completely out of our price range. It really does boil down to your requirements.

I have ruled out Smoothwall blocking anything (I think), as I added my computers IP to Guardian> Web Filter> Exceptions> Source exception IP addresses and changed my port accordingly. I confirmed that I was bypassing the filter but the Powershell command still returned the same error. I am going to log a case with MS as @sonofsanta suggested it was IIS related, I suggest you do the same.

Unfortunately no, it got kicked right down the priority list on the run up to Christmas. I still haven't been able to rule out it being blocked by Smoothwall (unless you are getting this error without a Smoothwall appliance).

It was a clean install, I only actually built it to get some screen shots for my Windows 10 BYOD guide. Now I am playing with it in general, I find I use the search bar more than the actual start menu.

I have standalone test Windows 10 install on an old Acer Extensa 5630, boots to desktop in 25 seconds. All drivers except for the card reader found by Windows, spec: Intel Core2Duo T5800 @2.0GHz 2GB RAM Standard 5,400rpm HDD Its not exactly slick straight after boot but given another minute or so it will happily handle most tasks, I wouldn't try and have too much open at once!

Sounds like quite a bit of work but as I was getting nowhere with my allow everything rule I will give it a shot, thanks!
