No power management in place apart from impero that opens them at 8:30am and shuts them down on lunchtimes and end of school, the crashes occur nowhere near these times

Yes all switch firmware is up to date, however we had to downgrade our 5400ZL due to the fact in PCM it showed as 100% RX errors in the top traffic overview the only log which is related to the intel card shows when it was disconnected and when it was reconnected, no other errors to do with networking or realted

I'm trying to troubleshoot a major issue we are having, we've just built some new PC's (100 in total) - I opted to go for an intel board DH87RL and the onboard NIC is an INTEL I217-V at random times of the day our whole network which is consists of HP procurve's will just crash out, the switches look like they are being looped, spanning tree protocol is enabled so this should not happen and in fact doesn't if we try to loop it manually so we can rule that out, to resolve the problem at first we simply rebooted switches and everything came back online and was fine again. During the next crash occurrences we then started to manually unplug fibres so get to the root of the issue and then once we found the offending switches we narrowed it down to the ports, in the many times we have managed to find an offending end port its always been once of the new Intel PC's. Bios has been updated, NIC drivers have been updated and the problem is still happening, when we reach an offending PC its normally just sat there waiting for someone to login and simply unplugging and re-plugging the cat5 cable fixes the issue (hence the reason in the beginning rebooting the switches fixed the issue) Has anyone ever had any similar issues with NIC's crashing the network? It's new to me in my 15 year career have never seen it happen before and none of my team have ever heard of it happening before and had to see it for themselves to believe it! I have a case open with intel support who seem sceptical about it, send them some logs of my switches yesterday but it doesn't help me in the meantime We built these PC's ourselves over the summer holidays to save on cost, the thought of having to rebuild another 100 to swap out the mainboards just doesn't seem like a viable option at the moment, also forking out another £1k for PCI-E nics also doesn't seem fair when we selected to purchase the Intel DH87RL board specifically to begin with as its supposed to be a flagship workstation motherboard which wouldn't have such issues!

try under group policy preferences ->user config - preferences-windows settings-drivemaps set location to local drive and select show / hide this drive not tested but it may work!

just double checked with RSOP and those are already set the what you have recommended

I wouldn't need to if there was a way of preventing students from being able to do this:

no they are not and unfortunately its how I took over the system but its too much a task to now rename them all on every file server, it doesn't address the underlying issue that they can browse network in windows explorer even though the network icon has been removed

A student brought a usb with a shortcut to a network UNC path of our applications server (not to any shared folder on it, just the server itself) - they are able to see what folders are shared and now access network browsing through windows explorer. The above along with SRP is not stopping them from doing this - has anyone else come across this problem and knows how to resolve it?

Just been checking out solarwinds network performance manager and traffic analyser, its exaclty what i'm after but at a £8k educational discounted price tag its a tad on the expensive side. I'm interested to know what tools / software other people are using to monitor traffic, bottlenecks, loops, speed etc. Without using wireshark as i dont have a degree in or time to learn jibberish

We loan out ipads and run through smoothwall for filtering, does anyone know how to setup a timeout (we use ML server) so that after say 2 hours when the ipad is returned the next user gets prompted for their credentials? or even better whenever safari closes for you to re-authenticate??

We only got 20, so far only issue is one was DOA but we purchased with the warranty so it'll be getting sent back soon,- they are not yet in circulation no probs with imaging and setting them up - i'll keep an eye out for hardware issues and update the post

The 20 I purchased to replace various old machines dotted around the school have been snapped up by the head and assigned to a new music ICT suite, did anyone overbuy to keep some in for spare that they could possible sell to us?? I'm only after about 6 more

Anyone else having the same problem? Students needs to create exe's in small basic however this totally conflicts our app locker environment

We share our domain and network with another school a mile away, both schools are connected via a managed VPN with virgin media. We both got a 3000 smoothwall unit installed over the summer holidays and i've just noticed that our SYSVOL folders are not replicating, it is between their two domain controllers but ours aren't. We have 4 domain controllers in total, two at each site but the other school holds the operation master and catalogue server, when i check the event log event 13508 warnings pop up and the exact same time we had our smoothwall device installed with no following 13509 event to say replication completed. AD seems to replicate fine, so does DNS - Logged a call with smoothwall but it's causing further issues which i need to get sorted ASAP - Can anyone think of why we are not replicating?

Anyone know if this is possible? DHCP on our open wifi dishes out ip's on a seperate IP range & subnet to our school network where the printers are installed - We use smoothwall for our open network filtering Primarily trying to do this from iPads

yes the source network is "sjwifi" and set to route relation

I'm also trying to setup a transparent proxy with seperate VLAN network & IP range on an open SSID, when i direct the default gateway via DHCP to the forefront TMG server i get this on on an open client device: We're using ubiquiti unifi APs and the physical server running the controller software has two network cards 10.11.216.1 (open) and 10.11.227.14 (secure) - its also my DHCP server for the open network of which the gateway is set to 10.11.216.2 that is the third network card i setup in my TMG server, should I at least be getting http traffic with this setup?

YEY it's now working, I added port B15 to my cisco router default gateway and untagged it on VLAN 2 - now ipads and iphones are picking up open network DHCP - Thanks again andyrite for your assistance

B13 set to forbid on VLAN 1 my iphone is picking up IP on the secure SSID but still a no go on the open SSID

no on the wired, wireless still not picking up a DHCP address

config t worked, if i set it to untagged it sets itself to auto on VLAN 1 seems to be assigning DHCP address to any device on my network now
